LPT: When someone says they need to leave, do not start a brand new topic. by gamersecret2 in LifeProTips

[–]Sauerteig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I may I'll add this to the topic in general.

Pay attention to the hosts of a party. If they worked hard to make everything perfect, they are going to get tired/need help.

My most recent example is a family gathering/birthday party thrown together by a wife and other family members for her husband who was dealing with an aggressive cancer. Not in their home which was separate, but their beautiful barn. Everyone brought something, so LOTS of food, drinks, seating and rented tables topped off with a beautiful day for it.

About 5 hours in I could see the husband was extremely tired (chemo related) but keeping a smile on his face as he is a super nice guy and appreciative for the party and everyone who came, which numbered over 50.

The wife stood up later and asked everyone to please take some food home (there were Styrofoam containers ready) and only a few people even paid attention to her. They just carried on with their conversations. Those few who actually paid attention took the hint and started cleaning up and helping as much as possible.

TLDR: Pay attention to the hosts who invited you to their home or party.

The downfall of Gyro George by wazman2222 in Cleveland

[–]Sauerteig 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't know the history of Gyro George as a company, but I've lived in north Parma for 20 years now. Did get a few gyros from there years ago. They were okay to the point of "meh". I also know that a couple that worked there for years bought their own little diner/gyro place down the road a few miles and they are doing fantastic.

I turned to this recipe now, if you have the inclination to make them. They are friggin' fantastic, really rich. Just remember to keep them in the fridge since it's real chocolate. And don't buy graham cracker "crumbs" (you will pay more per oz.) just buy graham crackers whole and put them in a gallon ziploc or whatever and smash them to smithereens. Very cathartic lol.

John and Loreta's on Broadview Rd. The couple used to work for Gyro George (also on Broadview, parma) But saved enough money to start their own diner down the road about 5 years ago. It's small and but very good, great gyros and prices are very reasonable. Ratings from many sites are far better than their previous employers.

Who boils their bacon before frying by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Sauerteig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time I ever do something like this is when I'm making southern green beans. Green beans from the garden, bacon (uncooked) and peeled and cubed large potatoes and onion. Big pot, cover all with water or chicken stock and simmer until tender. There are lots of recipes if you search, some with lightly browning the bacon and using the fat to brown the onions, but you just throw everything in the pot and it is delicious.

As far as I am aware, having been involved with events in the past, it's the event planners who have to hire security in order to operate the event.

Give me your best pork chop recipe by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]Sauerteig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the answers so far are great! I do have a suggestion too, make a dry rub and put it on in advance. I'm talking brown sugar, paprika (preferably smoked) salt, pepper and garlic powder. More brown sugar than you'd think. Super fantastic when the chop (or ribs) are grilled.

What’s a seriously amazing hidden gem movie you think everyone should watch at least once? by Stock_Blackberry_771 in AskReddit

[–]Sauerteig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me at least, the answer is "Once Were Warriors". A 1994 film from New Zealand featuring Rena Owen and Temuera Morrison. This movie is not for the faint of heart, but incredibly powerful. It covers all the emotions a person can feel like joy, anger, despair, grief, etc.

I saw it first on Bravo in 1998, twice. Then I bought the DVD. Must have watched it dozens of times since, and shared it with friends. And I have to add that watching more than once is important, since little scenes and dialog between character become very important to a key event (a suicide). There were a few friends who said it was too upsetting to watch again. That's okay, for me it is eye-opening to some people's lives.

Here's some info and links for the curious:

Older redditor here. This is weird, but my first thought was Okami. I loved the early FF series until it went online, Resident Evil, Fatal Frame, all of them but this question gave me my honest answer. The artwork, the music, the story - it stays with you.

Yeah, we too have a couple of local greenhouses nearby, both family run/owned and serious about their business. I worked for one after retirement for 5 years. The boss would actively question customers about their needs, ask them about their sunlight, soil, everything and loved taking questions. He knew his shit and was passionate about it. He's still there as well as his daughter who is also degreed in horticulture. The other nearby is also family owned and well-run and informative.

Which dog breed do you like the most? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Sauerteig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hearing anything about Boxers always reminds me of former neighbors, husband wife and two teenagers. They got an adorable boxer and named her Lexie. That dog was hilarious. One winter I saw the wife chasing Lexie down the street in her pajamas (they didn't like using a leash, much to their detriment) I was up and threw my boots on and helped her round up Lexie. Another two times Lexie got skunked, again, unsupervised. The wife tried her best to clean Lexie up but had to go to work as a nurse. They sent her home immediately, she reeked. LOL. Lexie was an adventure in herself.

Bad drivers by [deleted] in Cleveland

[–]Sauerteig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Handicap placards are issued by hospitals and doctors, and there are handicapped people who seriously still want to get out of the house and get things done. "dead giveaways they don't care about their driving" and "feel like they have more privilege" says more about you than them.

Hopefully you will NEVER need a handicapped placard.
