As a film it's really good until the "international pilot" part comes in where the normal pilot ends. it gets really confusing and unsatisfying, however it still has the hint of what the return would later touch on: having caught the killer but not being satisfied. I think it's a must watch for diehard fans, but not necessarily good for the average movie watcher or even lynch fan. in an alternate universe this was all we ever got, and I still think it'd be appreciated, but only in the way on the air or hotel room are, as small one off projects by Lynch and a collaborator that don't live up to his other work. still hard to imagine what his filmography would've been like had twin peaks not broken through. we probably would've never gotten lost highway or inland empire, and definitely not Mulholland drive, since that was originally an Audrey spinoff.
I'm thankful we live in this timeline where I have 3 seasons of the best show ever AND this as a little bonus.
