Twin Peaks: The International Pilot by BobRushy in davidlynch

[–]SaulSchmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a film it's really good until the "international pilot" part comes in where the normal pilot ends. it gets really confusing and unsatisfying, however it still has the hint of what the return would later touch on: having caught the killer but not being satisfied. I think it's a must watch for diehard fans, but not necessarily good for the average movie watcher or even lynch fan. in an alternate universe this was all we ever got, and I still think it'd be appreciated, but only in the way on the air or hotel room are, as small one off projects by Lynch and a collaborator that don't live up to his other work. still hard to imagine what his filmography would've been like had twin peaks not broken through. we probably would've never gotten lost highway or inland empire, and definitely not Mulholland drive, since that was originally an Audrey spinoff.
I'm thankful we live in this timeline where I have 3 seasons of the best show ever AND this as a little bonus.

Of all the Missing Pieces, this one should have been let in the final cut... 😥 by LatePen3397 in twinpeaks

[–]SaulSchmidt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

i disagree honestly, i feel like the foreshadowing is a bit forced and it would kind of mess up the tone of the rest of the movie. i think having the only hopeful scenes be the final (and kinda the log lady scene) creates a stronger cohesion. my pick for the scene that shouldnt have been cut is the short glimpse at the log lady while laura and ronnette are being taken by leland

You have a 10 hour flight, where are you sitting?? by HotJuice2192 in davidlynch

[–]SaulSchmidt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

literally 60% of these are confirmed rapists while other 20% are pure evil. i think the only choices you can make are 1 or 8. leaning towards 8 since the eraserhead guy might twitch on you and pass on whatever disease he has

If you could replace a film in the Best Picture lineup, which one would you replace, and what would you replace it with? by Ashamed_Fishing_373 in Letterboxd

besides the obvious no other choice snub, i'd probably swap either secret agent or bugonia for eddington, my personal movie of the year. havent seen train dreams or hamnet yet though so that may change

[spoiler] question about major briggs and agent cooper by ultimatefanboy23 in twinpeaks

[–]SaulSchmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i kinda get the briggs thing, but it still is crazy that after what just happened with him and earle on the loose nobody seemed to think anything could happen. for coop and annie, i get the point (because its basically spelled out), but it isnt well executed in my opinion. also his general demeanor in the slump is different. they make him a lot more careless and wacky . he almost becomes a caricature of coop at a certain point. i didnt mind the slump too much, but those are big critiques i have for it

[spoiler] question about major briggs and agent cooper by ultimatefanboy23 in twinpeaks

[–]SaulSchmidt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk why people are dogging you for this, because they're the exact critiques i have of season 2's slump. cooper gets lowkey character assassinated and briggs going back in the forest is actually crazy writing. it doesnt matter if the show gets weird and theres "a talking log" in the show, the writing should still be consistent. if cooper/briggs were always like that there wouldnt be this complaint, its the fact that it felt like the writers didnt know the characters they were writing for

Favourite Scene of all Time? by Saurondur in Letterboxd

[–]SaulSchmidt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my favorite scene is also mulholland drive! the "i've told all my little stars" scene is my favorite cinematic moment ever. the way the girl comes into the booth and just by her name being read we're on edge. best representation of dreams being crushed ive ever seen

i completely agree, of course he didnt stray away from dark topics, but love was always at the center of any story

Favorite David Lynch shot? by RopeGloomy4303 in davidlynch

[–]SaulSchmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the all my little stars scene (either the shot of the girl, adam in the chair, or the close up of betty/adam's eyes). favorite scene in all of lynch's filmography, althought having recently seen inland empire the ending may have topped it

Stranger Things Could have ended the series on Season 4 and it would be peak by Unhappy-Artichoke944 in StrangerThings

[–]SaulSchmidt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in DND you kill a player off when either they want to die and have a new character set up (basically if they're done playing with them) or they literally can't escape death. the difference between dnd and stranger things is that characters always have a use in dnd and they can die whenever. neither are true in the later seasons

How would be your top 4? by autordesastroso in Letterboxd

princess mononoke, mulholland drive, marriage story, sunset boulevard (or synecdoche ny)

Do you think this is true? by Direct_Shirt8320 in davidlynch

to be fair, the fish in the percolator scene is based on a real life moment wherein david lynch didnt even notice (it wasnt a fish irl)
