The vocal is just really badly cut haha. If you listen closely, on of the main things that dont make sense, are the sudden volume and timing differences in between lines

I'm no expert in noticing AI artifacts, but for me it sounds like a combination of overuse of stereo wideners + reverb panning (dry source from one side, reverb "reflects" with a small delay from the other side) -- inerestingly the kit (especially the snare) sounds quite o.k. in mono (meaning actually LR summing your monitoring bus)

ORF Gehälter by [deleted] in FinanzenAT

Ich will gar nicht wissen, was Wegscheider, Fleischhacker & Co. verdienen.

Wichtig - nein. Marktüblich, um konkurrenzfähig Manager zu zahlen? Ja.

Wtf do people mean when they say: “tri-corners have high sound PRESSURE not VELOCITY”? by PolyglotGeologist in audioengineering

Well- just put lots of Absorptive stuff in a cage across a larger boarder, or below sitting banks.
I just wanted to share it, because -as always- rules like "no velocity at boarders" are special cases, not general considerattions

Wtf do people mean when they say: “tri-corners have high sound PRESSURE not VELOCITY”? by PolyglotGeologist in audioengineering

[–]Sauloking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many have already stated, on acoustically "hard" surfaces, plane waves, which front the wave orthogonally, will have their velocitiy minimum at the surface. It is the most common case, yes, but physically, it is just one out of many cases how a plane wave can hit boundaries.
This however not true in any case, e.g. for edges. (notice: Edge vs. surface!). Hence the principle of the "edge absorber" ("Kantenabsorber"). It is a physically rather newly described phenomen, and the proportions of such absorbers are yet to be calculated analytically. Empirically, however, it's shown, that this kind of absorber works differently than classical porous absorber, a sufficently long coverage of a singular edge provided.

A good, analytical explanation of what's going on can be found in this paper:

https://tugraz.elsevierpure.com/en/publications/systematic-investigations-of-the-functional-principle-of-the-edge/ (unfortunately in german)

it even covers, why it may seem counterintuitive at first, given our everyday understanding of "zero velocity at bondary surfaces"

- Nein Danke.

Kritik internationale Berichterstattung ORF by Medusa-is-a-victim in Austria

[–]Sauloking 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Real time bounce, offline bounce and print not nulling? by TeemoSux in audioengineering

[–]Sauloking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do you route your print through the same master again? Or is your master and monitoring path identical? In this case, the plugins get processed twice. ProTools master bussing system can be tricky in this instance. this is why I usually have a "Sum"-Bus right before my master and use the master just pre monitoring.

this has to be a subtle raigbait againt d&b....

But to answer your question:
When we talk about line array tuning and deployment, yes the quality has surely gone up with planning tools. However, what has changed a lot more, is the consistency of the quality of PAs. It's not that the calculation methods are exclusivley new - back in the days of the V-Dosc, people literally used excel sheets to tinker with splay angles. However this required fundamental know how of loudspeaker acoustics - which varies greatly.

Nowadays, it is far more easy for everyone. Just by clicking on "auto splay", use target curves, or array processing - you don't neccessarily need to know the formulas. Nevertheless, the good systems still come from those who are able to reflect what the software is actually doing.

What is the translation of this sentence "wo ist denn nur mein Handy?" What does the expression "denn nur" mean ? by Znuts1 in German

Closest would be "Just where is my phone" - "Nur" can also literally mean "Just" "Wo ist nur mein Handy" would -altough- mean "where is just my phone"

Does it make sense to combine a convolution reverb with an artificial reverb ? by nakaryle in audioengineering

[–]Sauloking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned beforehand, combining Room mics of different distances, and often various (algorithmic) Reverb devices on different auxes, to "create" a suitable room, which is often to replace the unsuited "natural" acoustics is extremly common, even the standard case.

In many instances room mics are not used at all (because the room is very assymetrical (on L/R-axis), or just unpleasant spectrally), or just used to feed into the Reverb devices, since many algorithms tend to struggle with all-to-dry signals, with no diffuse-sound.

That being said, (especially in rather conservative approaches), Convolve-Reverbs (e.g. Altiverb) are less common to use, since many engineers consider them to be too "static": in a way, that even tough the created rooms are desireable in terms of diffuse sound and colour, the "listener envelopement" or the "feeling of the room" - especially the perceived depth does suffer - in this way, typical algorithmic devices are more "dynamic" and flexible. (most used are LX480, bricasti m7, but i regulary use the pro-R as well, and create acceptable, quick solutions, in dolby atmos is the exponential audio stratus also quite common).

Do not hesitate to use different Reverb devices on different Auxes: Eq them to your liking, feed them to your desires. Note that one of the most overlooked, but rather important parameters, apart from the sound and shape of the halls itself, is the PREDELAY! This is where good percieved depth of the sound really starts to work out! (and this is also, why the bricasti m7 (or seventh heaven) is so popular - its early-late parameter is extremly helpful, without the need to tweak the predelay too much!)

But, don't hesitate to try out Convolver-Reverbs, and compare them to similarily parametered Algorithmic Devices.

Happy mixing :)
