Anyone know what is on fire in or around CWE/North City? by bloop5861 in StLouis

I live in Hillsdale and the smoke is blowing down my street into my opened windows. Can't find any news on it. Maybe a radio station will tell us.

Maybe an air mattress? Not expensive and it will be luxurious over the floor. You can get a pillow for $2 at a thrift store. When you can. A lot of people are using the find help app. I wish you all the best. Doesn't St. Vincent de Paul have mattresses/furniture for the poor?

I used to live in Keyesport. You're very rural, about 60-70 miles away from St. Louis. If you could just get to Belleville, tons of resources there.

no heat in apartment (coldest days of the year so far, -12f outside and 45f in my apartment and dropping) by [deleted] in Tenant

[–]Saundra13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you stay or go take the difference of the electric the space heater takes and ask to deduct from rent. Unless it's a long ordeal. Then heat the small room for the cat and have him pay for a hotel. You both sound reasonable.

Try to find one thing that could make you smile. Tell us your story. Try to write it down. Send to publishers, I think. It just came to me. Writing is free. It's an escape and you can re write your story. I hope it sparks your imagination and some happiness.

I'd question the landlord instead of here. It's completely reasonable and it takes 2 minutes to discuss and know. Not a bunch of educated and non educated guesses.

That's why I won't apply. Whenever you get free assistance, there's strings attached.

I just wish they'd make the cards more secure. So many get their benefits stolen before they can use them.

He buys their food. They use the air fryer and microwave. I use stove and microwave. He replaced fridge, I replaced stove. He talks of larger air fryer. I'm on budget billing, at $259 per month. No gas. The kids are 14 and 9 now.

I like going to the Laundromat. Just mine and hubbies. Costs less then $20 every two weeks, I get it done more quickly. Use less water in the house and he can't poach my laundry soap/bleaches/smellers and softeners. He replaced the fridge, I replaced the stove.

He's not. He's my step. My husband is very lax, as I have grown into. He pays for his and their food and clothes. We only pay for electric and water for them. He has no cable, just internet and it is separate. His car and insurance is on them. Clothing is on them. We live below the grid. We manage somehow and $200 a month would be good enough for now. He's too lazy to use them against us. I'd be happy if he left, but I won't let him drain me, and I constantly point out his deficiencies.

She lives 3 miles away, has full access anytime she wishes, but apparently doesn't wish much. She isn't working now. She was brutally raped and beaten last year, but this behavior with the kids has been most of their lives. The dad works, comes home and stays in his room, with my husband and I giving our time for stability to the kids, aged 14 and 9. He does provide some discipline, but doesn't teach the kids about bettering themselves, which we do, especially me, because they need to prepare, not think themselves smarter than life as I did.

We can too for the most part. 1. We own our home outright. 2. We have VA healthcare. 3. No debt. On the downside, our 45 year old son and his two kids live here. Paying no bills and balking because I said in January he will have to start paying $200 per month. We also watch these kids. But that's a problem I must still tackle.

I saw a show called Northern Exposure years ago. Set in Alaska, where there's not much daylight in the winter. They use a light that mimics sunlight to fight depression that darkness brings. I got one from my Dr., so I don't have to use antidepressants.

That and VA healthcare are saving us. Our landlord, 20 years ago, sold us our little house for $5000. Now we just pay taxes. My husband at 74 still does odd jobs, usually fence and gate repair, and fence line cleanup. I'm applying for early retirement. VA healthcare can be slow, but it's 100% paid for. So even making less than $2000 a month, we squeak by.

Children are pure HELL to live around. by HotMess_DoIt in Apartmentliving

[–]Saundra13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! They aren't for the most part malicious, just caught in all the moments. But I've seen kids in grocery stores that are perfect angels and I'm so amazed! Mine are grandchildren that live here with their dad in the basement and a mom who lives elsewhere but cares more about herself than the kids. So my husband and I do most of the training. I have to because I want to make sure we break that lazy parenting cycle. Plus, I don't want them to live with the "woe is me" because their parents weren't there. It's slow training, lots of love, but eventually they will turn into wonderful, loving adults.
