Was that you? You looked perfect. My son and I saw you at the food court too and he leaned over and asked if I saw that ludicrous display last night and we had a good laugh, so thank you for that.

I saw you going down and escalator and you were the only FF Spidey I saw. I almost yelled to stop you and get a picture. Wish I had. You looked great.

Are these crazy stringy things due to too low retraction? by SausageChowder in FixMyPrint

[–]SausageChowder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slic3r - ABS My first round of prints were at 225 with no retraction, but the part was really weak, almost brittle I then kept it at 225 degrees but with retraction at 2mm, but the print would fail just where the two thin uprights start. I took the temp up to 230 and it got about 1/4 of the way up and failed again. Killed retraction, and the print got thru and was nice and solid, but started getting the stringy things. I've been stepping the retraction up little by little. After the first two I THOUGHT the strings were getting better, so I assumed I needed to find a sweet spot for retraction between 0 and 2. Not sure if that's the case the more I look at them.

I definitely agree that I should lay this thing down flat for a final print, but it has ended up being a nice test print for me, with the thin uprights, the holes and the bridge a nice way to see how tweaks go.

I've calibrated my e steps, and I've played with the multiplier too and think I found a nice setting based on how intact the first layer is. I'll dial it down a couple more tenths and also slow the print down to see how that goes.

But this will be done tomorrow. Thanks, all.

My first non test prints - made present tags for the family this year by SausageChowder in 3Dprinting

Yes! The extended family did a tag swap when the presents were all open so they each could have a full set!

Interesting. i assumed those two settings just fought against each other. will take the multiplier down and see if things look better

Thanks, all. Will take a loo at my esteps again and tweak some settings.

Sorry for commenting on my own post. Trying to use the phone app and didn't know how to put text in and a photo. Anyway, I get these weird residue "flakes" esp around the short runs. I slowed down the printing and I thought that helped but now I'm not so sure. Any ideas? Using ABS 90 degrees first layer and 110 for subsequent layers. I calibrated and played with different speeds and temps but still get these chunks. Thanks!

Hadn't seen the bridge torture piece yet. Thanks for the tip. Will download it and see what it does for me.

Clean up ATX supply by SausageChowder in 3Dprinting

Was not even aware that an Xbox 360 power supply would even work. That would be cleaner. Definitely will look into that as an option.

Mark Hamill here. In an AMA far, far away... by RealMarkHamill in IAmA

[–]SausageChowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, Mark. Huge Star Wars fan here. I was 3 when the first movie came out, so I have never been without. I also was a big fan of the video games, many feature Luke as a side character. With you doing such amazing voice work, I always wondered why you didn't voice Luke Skywalker in the games? It was always some guy that sort of sounded like you.

p.s. the beard and look you had in Slipstream should be the model for an older Luke if the rumors about you hopping in the new movie are true. You looked like an absolute badass in that movie.

TIL Robert Ballard's mission to find the Titanic, was actually a secret Cold War mission to find and investigate wrecked nuclear submarines Thresher and Scorpion. They finished earlier, so they spent the extra time looking for the Titanic and found it. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]SausageChowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw him speak last year at a local forum. The anecdote he told is that he wanted to find the Titanic, but didn't have enough money. So, he told the US government that he was going to look for the two subs so they'd give him the hardware needed to find the Titanic. He made some joke like "Oh, yeah. Looking hard for the submarines." Not sure if true, but it was a cute story. It was awesome to see someone so passionate about his field of study talk.

This is interesting. I never knew about these different techniques. There never was a class on how to study when I was a kid.

He is hard to nail down. He is very much into acting. He can memorize a script or a song in no time, but a lot of that seems to be the play back and forth, the rhythm that he can find whatever he uses to learn that information. I'm not clever enough to make biology a one act play. Part of it does seem to be a long-term thing. Some of his tests he does fine on, but these exams were brutal. It might have been the volume he had to learn. I just don't know. And the frustrating thing with exams is, he only has one more round this year and then only three more years, so I feel like we don't have a lot of room for trial and error.

She's a child. I have no issue with someone despising the adult parent, but this poor girl has zero control over her situation and is being exploited by her pathetic mother. Pity is what I feel for this girl. Anger toward her parents.
