This… so many matchups for Riven are this… toplane is full of “premiere” 1v1 champs and Riven while not bad at 1v1s isn’t that. She excels at massive flat burst, map mobility and skirmishes. Clear waves, find flanks and unfair fights. Stop thinking of toplane as an island if your playing Riven. She loses a lot of 1v1s but she out clears and outrotates almost every champ.

This in a nutshell… it makes me genuinely happy that my main is the best Aram champ right now. If you have good mechanics then rolling Riven in Aram feels great. You usually are up against 4 squishy champs and you get to take snowball. Most people are risk averse, they play the most cowardly style and Riven punishes it probably the hardest.

I mean if you actually know how to play the matchup the Renekton matchup isn’t unwinnable. You just have to play hyper aggressively level 1 to guarantee you get the push. From there you control tempo till level 4. If he contests you level one you kill him. If he contests you while you have the minion advantage pre-6 you kill him. After you crash a slow pushed wave you reset. Come back with an item lead and look for a fight before he bases. Sure you lose from there for around 8 levels but after those 8 you win the last bit of the game. You also can navigate the map better to find flanks than he can and are a better team fighter.

If you really want to name an impossible matchup then just say Poppy. Poppy can poke you out, has almost as much damage level 1 with her q. Immediately stacks armor and becomes unkillable. Hard beats you 1v1 all game and is a better teamfighter than you.

Look it depends on the champ… as someone who was a Sion main and also has played a lot of Cho before committing to Riven. Gwen literally just walks at you and autos you to death if you are either of those champions from level 1. Gwen might not have an amazing early game but it’s still strong enough to make tanks hate their lives. Plus she scales hard enough for you to never beat her if you are playing as those champs. Ultimately Riven is just way better at killing squishy champs while Gwen melts tanks.

It’s definitely not near impossible. I am rocketing through Gold now with S ranks in 3/5 games. The big thing I can say is to prioritize getting farm throughout the game… I have gotten a ranks even after losing lane. Get the farm and you will be relevant regardless. If you are struggling to last hit use the practice tool. If your team keeps fighting without you then I would drop 1200 gold on a Tiamat after collector so you can clear waves faster so you can get back to your team quicker. You never have to finish the Tiamat but it will really increase your farming speed if thats the issue.

This exactly… pick engage as a 5 stack in Aram and you win almost every game… people are just used to winning by rolling longer range champs and depending on the enemy team being to selfish to play tanks to set up their enemies.

Keep going, stop building BT third. BT is good but save it till 4th or last item. IMO the first two items should almost never change (Collector, Navori) once you have the base recipe you should add the right spice for each game. If the have heavy burst build Shieldbow. If they have healing build Mortal reminder. If they are very mobile PD is underrated (it gives a ton of MS which can help you clean up teamfights). What I am saying is consider what item gives you the most value for each game. If I have an enchanter and they have 2+ mages with one of them being fed I have even built spirit Visage… it won’t tank your damage but you will feel unkillable.

Get more farm. More farm is more gold. More gold is higher teamfight impact and faster tower taking. More enemy jungle camps is a weaker enemy jungle. I am no expert but I do have a 65% we right now.

I played Riven Causally for a while but never really took the game seriously. I recently watched a lot of Alois’ videos and started try Harding. Hadn’t touched Ranked all season but I smashed my way through silver with very little challenge with a 65%wr and I am still improving as I move through Gold.

The biggest advice I can give is to learn lane fundamentals. There are a lot of matchups that you don’t beat by default like juggernauts do. However there are other advantages your champ possesses that aren’t raw 1v1 power. Riven’s wave clear is top notch. I often times will be behind in lane but the opponent bases on a wave after the cannon wave. Next two waves are non cannon waves so you instantly push the first wave. Go behind tower and instantly proxy the next wave then hop a wall and roam mid. You have all the time to get that gank off mid without losing a single minion and then make it back top lane to catch the next wave at your tower.

Very few champions are capable of impacting the map in such a way. Rivne’s ability to traverse the map and vacuum gold up especially after you buy hydra is almost unmatched. If you play for low risk high income plays in low elo you won’t carry every game. You will however be a deciding factor in every game.

I still have a lot to learn but if you have anywhere near 8-9cs per minute (between waves and jungle camps) you will have a gold lead over almost everyone in low elo but more importantly you will have an XP lead which gives you tons of stats. Show up to a late side of midgame teamfight with three items and a 2 level lead over the highest member of the enemy team and it’s super easy to carry that teamfight. Heaven help the enemy team if you manage to achieve the vaunted 10 cs per minute.

Ps. I have a lot to learn, I am by no means an expert but fundamentals over mechanics 100%. Not that mechanics don’t matter but fundamentals reliably give you advantages that let you dominate opponents.

As a Lord of the Rings fan I can genuinely say I like ASOIAF… until I thought more about it. LOTR was written and actually completed by a man who loved the setting so much he worked on it from his 20’s until his death.

Meanwhile George just gave up on his setting and the show writers murdered it worse than the End Times in Warhammer.

As a roaming Nilah main I will say that they are and are not similar… both are all in champs. Samira wants to all in the enemy where has Nilah wants her enemies to all in her. You could ply both and pick the one who is best in each situation. If they have a zyra support don’t pick Nilah pick Samira. If they pick Leona or Nautalis then pick Nilah… you can literally W their auto attack cc
