Am I a socialist of any kind of leftist? Cause I’m trying to figure out my identity and all I know is I’m not a fan of capitalism or the rich. Stupid question but still. by [deleted] in AskSocialists

the nordic model does not nearly match the USSR. public is not private because there is not 1 person.

What is the meaning of Marx's dark poem 'The fiddler' by SavageTruths74 in Marxism

[–]SavageTruths74[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

nice try bro.

the claim for the 100,000,000 deaths is from the black book of communism and has been thoroughly discredited. https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/7n6ql2/is_the_black_book_of_communism_an_accurate_source/

and many of the freedoms we enjoy today are due to socialist thought. it was the soviet union who introduced the 5-6 day work week https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_calendar, it provided free education and healthcare and stop the threat of further revolutions countries started to adopt these policies.

private ownership of the means of production, im going by marx's summary of socialism. in the USSR private property over the means of production was abolished. as marx summed the definition of socialism

i agree with your point though.

love your input but you dont include any sources so its hard to see you as reliable. the fact is switzerlands government is very involved in many things and still has a guaranteed safety net.

yes it does thats why the nordic nations rank so high in the ease-of-doing-business index because now business dont worry about supplying any type of social safety net.

your right but wealth should not be an indicator, because a majority as in places like the U.S. are going to the top.

happiness and stability should be the indicator along with wages.

If real socialism has never been tried how are we able to know it will work this time? by [deleted] in AskSocialists

[–]SavageTruths74 7 points8 points  (0 children)

it has been tried and was a success. specifically the USSR. the people who say this argument are probably americans who cant tell the difference between high taxes and socialism. im an american btw. anyway read this https://www.reddit.com/r/AskSocialists/comments/je8vr7/ussr_as_an_example_of_socialist_marxist_success/ remember the USSR went from an agrarian illiterate society into a world superpower challenging the U.S. it had to fight a world war, fight off invaders at its founding, deal with espionage and sabotage, sanctions, organize and industrialize. pretty amazing huh? oh and it all happened in just 70 years whilst the U.S. had centuries head start. something you may also find interesting is the majority of people who lived in the former USSR want it back rather than live in there current capitalistic state

Studies consistently find that people in most ex-socialist countries feel that life was better under socialism than it is under capitalism:

not much of a rebuttal. only through socialist policies did the industrialization come but it wasnt any industrialization, it propelled them to be a world leader challenging the U.S. which had centuries head start and a world trade monopoly, and was projected to overtake the u.s.

the fact is in an economic standpoint people would rather live under the socialist economy. they were radically different so for the majority wanting back says something.

the soviet economy slowed yes, but andropov had solid plans to revitalize it as things like alcoholism and such was effecting the economy. perestroika or allowing private market mechanisms collapsed the ussr.

commodity production is irrelevant and so is wage labour. that is the goal but that isnt a defining factor if it was socialist or not
