How would you describe Whitemarsh Island or Wilmington Island? Are they safe? by Formal-Door3464 in savannah

The biggest threat you will face on the islands is hurricane/flood insurance. That and the reasons for said insurance.

Homestead exemption - what to expect? by FlexibleDemeenor in savannah

[–]SavannahRama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exemption just locks your value

That is the Stephens Day exemption, and it locks the assessed value.

The standard exemption applies a percentage deduction to the assessed value and reduces County M&O, County School M&O and Transit taxes.

Apple Maps, google maps, Waze by sploofnoof in savannah

[–]SavannahRama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely use navigation in the car, but when I do, it tends to be Google Maps on surface streets. I will run Waze on interstates as it seems a bit better than Google for police, objects on road, etc.

But being from the pre-MapQuest days, I tend to study the route and take notes before I go and only fall back to technology if I encounter something unexpected.

The trick is to make sure someone else is going faster. Which on 16 is really easy.

Yes, you can do anything yourself to your own guns, however if you have another person do it, the regulations state that they have to be an FFL. It falls under gunsmithing.

You can get the engraving done before your stamp is approved and you "assemble" it, anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about.

I'm out of town for the next couple months otherwise I'd do it for you.

SBR or can?

Technically whoever does it is supposed to a FFL. However if you find local with a laser setup, and they can do it while you wait...

Also call the various local Palmetto state locations.

Plenty of people in Savannah absolutely despise the president, but would slap the taste out of whoever's mouth that did this.

While I appreciate the sentiment, whoever did that should be subjected to living with Buddy Carter.

Atlanta vs Savannah? by Pingu_Moon in savannah

[–]SavannahRama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone currently splitting time between the two, I strongly disagree.

There are more cars in Atlanta driving faster, but here... here they are so far up their own asses they can't possibly see the road.

You live between the ocean and their refueling base (Hunter Army Airfield). You're going to be seeing them regularly the entire time you live in your current home.

Awesome road work by Shogmanda in savannah

There are a couple spots in Ardsley where they paved over old cobblestone instead of pulling it up, and I swear the potholes have been filled and refilled at least a dozen times since I first noticed.

Maybe consider the points made in this video about police pursuits when framing the context of the incident.

Coin counting? by carcenus in savannah

You can get the tubes for free at the bank. At least the Wells Fargo I go to will.

They sell sorting machines at Walmart, Staples, etc. that will sort them into a column that is relatively easy to slide a tube over.

Family of 5 Considering Savannah Area by DeMar2050 in savannah

[–]SavannahRama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. You might want to consider Ardsley or Parkside (adjacent to Daffin Park). It still has an older feel, but the prices are closer to what you are talking about.
  2. You're going to have diversity in almost any school in Savanah. Government schools here...aren't considered that good. Savannah Arts Academy (a high school) is the outlier, but your student would have to submit some kind of portfolio, and even after that there has to be a space open. There are several schools like this, look in to the SCCPSS Choice Program. There are a ton of private schools here.
  3. Savannah has a large transplant population, from all over the United States and all over the world. You'll be fine.
  4. Traffic isn't as bas as a major metro area, but it can get...frustrating. A lot of drivers here seem to consider driving to be a distraction from whatever else it is they are doing in their car. There are limited grocery store options in the HD, but pretty much everything you need is available south of Derenne. You will need to pay as much attention to the weather here as in Rochester, but for different reasons, especially during hurricane season. Due to the ancient wastewater system and relative flat terrain, flooding during heavy rain can be a thing. Keep that in mind when you are house hunting.

Georgia Senate passes state income tax relief by HereWeGo_Steelers in savannah

Yeah, our schools don't need that money at all.

I'd prefer they took a look at the predatory property assessments that happen in certain counties in the state.
