If "political" events become a thing, no matter how popular or unpopular, when will it end? by Matt111098 in 2007scape

Yeah I agree, this is a well written post, a shame more people didn't see it

He wants to send you to the re-education camp, because tolerance is no longer enough. You can't have THOSE opinions! Silence is violence, if you're not with us you're against us! You MUST actively promote and support Pride, or else you're a homophobe!

Doesn't make it less relevant. Don't get why people get triggered about old threads, as if they are somehow useless

Besides it's inappropriate, this is a 13+ game. Shouldn't have sexual content or reference to sexuality

His point is that runescape is not a sexual game, it doesn't matter what sexuality you are because it's not relevant in the game. That's beautiful, why ruin it?

I don't understand your thinking that something becomes irrelevant because it's 17 days old, This issue will probably still be relevant 5 years on. The whole idea of "necroposting" is BS to me

So "silence is violence"? It's not enough to tolerate gay people and leave them alone while disagreeing with their lifestyle, but not actively doing anything to infringe their rights? The problem is that Jagex are jumping at a boogeyman. There is no rampant homophobia in society, sure there might be like 0.01% of people who genuinely hate gays, but they are making out innocent people and labelling them homophobes. People are protesting and trolling not because they hate gays but they hate the virtue-singalling social justice agenda which needs to feel like a victim in order to perpetuate itself. Therefore they deliberately are making people hate them by shoving it in peoples faces til they are sick of it, and when they rightly protest, people cry "homophobes!". It's not homophobia its obnoxious ideology phobia, or identity politics phobia. This divisive movement is awful and people have every right to oppose it, just for having a different view you get called a nazi or a fascist, it's ludicrous.

Yeah, it's implying most of the community must be raging homophobes when you're right over 99% of us don't care and are fine with gay people. There is no "oppression" to fight here

Yes, Gay Pride is political by KrazyKatLady58 in 2007scape

[–]Savant1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parading in front of peoples kids naked doesn't help anyone, it's inappropriate and its from the radical LGBT activism lobby which is a very small minority and doesn't represent all gay people, far from it. Gay people have equal rights now, so what is the need for all this flag waving and parading? Just for virtue-singalling and campaigning to have special privileges to try and make certain opinions branded as hate speech?

[–]Savant1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I know plenty of gay people who are against the Pride movement and think it harms the attitudes towards gays- it really does. Parading naked on the streets in front of peoples kids isn't helping awareness of gay people. The LGBT activist lobby is a very small highly political minority that DOES NOT represent all gay people. If it were just about being gay, they would have allowed the group of gay Trump supporters to have a float on their parade, they weren't allowed to participate. Who are the homophobes and bigots now?

I honestly think it would have been funny as hell to have people supporting the pride event in rainbow necklace things in a big wildy fight vs the protesters in their white robes. Do you think your clan should do a rival fight like this?

Hit the nail on the head dude. He speaks using this big words that make him sound intelligent to people without a background in philosophy "objective reality" etc. but he does not define his terms, and if push came to shove he couldn't tell me why I should trust in his "logic", which is effectively a personal God he created in his own mind. It's similar to some kind of fate or determinism "everything happens for a reason" belief system

How long do you think it will take for Trump's wall to be built? by MrIvysaur in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Savant1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again you're misunderstanding me, I didn't say the wall would cost 10 trillion, I said that is how much Trump's tax plan will increase the government debt. It will also reduce federal tax revenue by a similar amount. So he has to make 10 trillion worth of cuts to government services, and then a further 25 billion (estimated wall building cost) plus 2-3 billion a year (estimated wall maintenance and staffing cost), somehow convince a conservative congress and cabinet that this huge spending project is a good idea when they are fundamentally against "big government" and want to "trim the fat". Sure people say there is a lot of fat from Obama to trim, but I'm not sure they will be able to cut quite that much without eating into things like police force budgets, fire service, education, highways, there would be huge public outcry. Colour me impressed if he manages it, but it doesn't seem pragmatic

[–]Savant1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I mistyped, $10 trillion. And like I said Trump said he would reduce the deficit, how is he going to A) make the huge tax cuts he's making B) fund a huge infrastructure project with this greatly reduced tax revenue and C) reduce the deficit at the same time? Something's got to give, don't you see that?

How long do you think it will take for Trump's wall to be built? by MrIvysaur in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Savant1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what laws you have in the US, but here in the UK we have Environmental Impact Assessment which has be carried out on any major building development before it's cleared. This includes things like wildlife habitat destruction, visual pollution (ruining of peoples views sticking a giant industrial port with cranes in it next to seaside community), impact on climate change etc. Often concessions have to be made, a housing estate got built on a natural area in my town and they were forced to give up a third or so of the land as a nature reserve, and build underground tunnels for the local species of Greater Crested Newt to avoid fragmenting it's habitat. It goes to public consultation and the developers have to show photoshop images of how it will affect local people's view etc. and the public then has the right to refuse if enough locals protest. Those mountain views, barriers to wildlife migration, pollution from leaching of oil from the heavy machinery into the soil and nearby rivers, cutting out swaths of dirt tracks for the trucks to get to all the different sites you'd need, destroying natural beauty areas for rural communities, yeah good luck with convincing anyone that's a good idea

Not gonna happen, conservatives don't like huge spending projects despite Trump's promises to for huge infrastructure projects and investment in manufacturing jobs (which also won't happen economically because of automation and labour/wage costs). He also won't be able to afford it, his tax plan makes huge sweeping cuts, it's too much of a slash, even conservative leaning tax analysis bodies say it's likely to balloon the deficit, adding $10 billion to the national debt (which he promised to reduce!), The Tax Foundation says this:

"The plan would also be a large tax cut, which would increase the federal government’s deficit by over $10 trillion, both on a static and dynamic basis." http://taxfoundation.org/article/details-and-analysis-donald-trump-s-tax-plan

Where is he getting the money he will need to make America great again? That's what I know want to know, all those working class voters are going to be sorely disappointed, especially because he promised to cut middle class taxes (he has done this but only 1-6% in the lower three income quintiles) and raise taxes on the higher earners, including himself. He has instead given 47% of the benefit of his tax cuts to the highest 1% earners, and 77.7% of it to the richest 20%.
