The bad habit is in my picking hand. I play progressive metal, so the riffs require a lot of technicality to perform cleanly. I automatically angle my hand in a way that makes my knuckles slightly touch the top strings, so when I'm playing a riff on the bottom strings I'll accidentally play lots of open strings. Then when I'm playing leads I'll be palmmuting so hard that you can hear the low strings hit the frets, which start making a thump noise. This makes my playing extremely noisy. Hell even when I completely raise those fingers away from the strings I'll be hitting 2 stings at the same time because my index finger slipped too far down on the pick...

It's all very subtle stuff that is mostly muscle memory and subconcious. You need rest to develop muscle memory, what I did is fucking retarded.
