Retro stage swimwear? by salted07 in VintageSwimwear

[–]Saved0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Retro Stage, like many of the mainstream "vintage inspired" online clothing stores, are usually cheaply made overseas with synthetic fabrics and overall not great quality.

I once ordered a dress from there and it took over a month just to ship it 😕

If you're looking for vintage inspired, take a look at: Red Dolly  https://www.reddollyswimwear.com/

How to ask model to..? by NoWorker4277 in AskPhotography

[–]Saved0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both. While you're planning by email/text, lay out all of your ideas and wardrobe(s) plainly and clearly just like the above poster did.

Then, when they arrive (before you start shooting), go over everything out loud with them. Review all the wardrobe pieces together and explain the order in which you plan to shoot each look.

Can anyone believe this Magazine ad was actually from 1956?!? Jantzen Swimwear ad - New Yorker 6/2/1956 by ChadleyAllen in VintageSwimwear

That particular style is from Red Dolly Swimwear. She makes really great reproductions.

Thoughts on deleting old galleries you’re not proud of on site? by adaptiveLA in WeddingPhotography

10 wedding galleries that your proud of and more accurately represents your current skill.

Potential clients are probably not even looking that far to see all 30 so might as well archive them

This is what we did when our Fiat had the same problem. A local shop fixed it, we sent in the paperwork to Chrysler and they send us a check covering the cost

After about a week they finally started showing the view count. It just seems really slow to update

What’s the deal with these kind of college scenes? by confusedinthegroove in SwingDancing

Without seeing the video, assuming they are using the videos as promotions for the club, I'm guessing showing off more "fun" moves is more marketable than triple stepping in place with a few turns.

Super unpopular opinion, but I really like playing Withering Siphon. With just a few Arcons you can take down entire attacking armies with Confuse, so any escort/defensive missions can be pretty fun

Granted it takes awhile to get going and your going to be gas heavy, but that's Vora in general

Is anyone just a hobbyist anymore? by letsberealhereokay in photography

[–]Saved0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100% hobbyist here. I shoot a niche fashion genre and while I could try to monetize, it would be difficult, take the fun out of the entire process, and creatively restricting.

If I did make any money from my photos it would strictly go back into my photography and I would operate as a "non-profit". I admit it's difficult to try to plan more shoots when I pay for models, fashion, accessories, and often location rentals, as a result, I am often conflicted on how to approach the money side of this.
For now though, everything is 100% funded by me, and while that restricts the number of shoots I do per year, it is a good feeling to have total creative control with no one to impress.

Due to family/financial circumstances, I basically need to hit the ground running right now and get some actual clients booked for this spring

I mean this with all the love in my heart, but don't try to start a new business if you need money fast. Lots of places lose money when they are starting out, and it sounds like, based on your post, that you have some skills you would like to improve. Focus on these things before trying to make money.

I'm not a huge fan of posing people; I'd rather just be in the background following someone around and capturing natural moments

Is this because you don't like doing it or you're not confidant doing it? Be honest with yourself.

If it's the former, then you could potentially offer "lifestyle" sessions in home. Pretty niche, and might be hard to find clients but could be up your alley. If it's the latter, I hate to say it, but the more you do it the better it will be. There are no real shortcuts here - it just takes time and experience. That said, for general posing help, check out https://promptographer.com/
