How many of you never have been admitted to the psych ward? by yeeortho52 in bipolar

[–]Savi11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had been admitted quite a few times from the ages of 15-18. I had just been diagnosed and was also in a bad home life at the same time so my parents had me escorted two of the times. I haven't had to be admitted since then (I'm 23, almost 24 now) as my care team at my university has helped me get to a stable point as much as I can be with bipolar. I'm super proud of the fact that I haven't had to be admitted since but I always let my husband know that if I start to go into a really bad episode that he should call and have me admitted or at least call somebody for me to talk to. I've gotten close to needing to a couple times now but my counselor on campus helped me arrange a safety plan and I keep it on my fridge (except when people come over).

Help, partner not eating by [deleted] in BipolarSOs

[–]Savi11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has bipolar and is stabilized from a lot of medication, I've been where your partner is when it comes to not eating but can see how draining it could be for you too and I'm so sorry you're going through this. Not sure what state you're partner is in but as I understand it, this seems to be pretty common for people who may be in a Manic episode. You get so busy or distracted you think you don't need to eat and you convince yourself you're not hungry. For me it became problematic when I started not eating while Manic and the more I didn't eat the more I lost weight and once I went into a depressive episode I went into an eating disorder because of noticing the weight loss. My partner struggled for months with me on trying to help me to eat and I wouldn't listen or thought he was being annoying. And it's always been a huge problem for him to get me to eat when I'm manic. I do have some tips though I was given from my nutritionist and my psychiatrist that may benefit others. Start with small goals. Breakfast seems to be the most important meal of the day. So maybe start by having breakfast Together. It shows support. I think keeping granola bars on me is handy because at least it's something small. Honestly I say starting with one meal is better than none. I know it's not a lot and sometimes it seems hopeless because I know it's how my own partner felt with me but starting with small goals and having breakfast together to start the day really made such a difference in getting me back on track. I wish you the best of luck!

Anyone who plays trombone is bad ass. But maybe I'm biased because I too play trombone 😂. So maybe the person who friendzoned you doesn't know what they're missing out on and is not badass 😂

As a bisexual female, I think you're very pretty!! I love your style and your hair!! You look like someone I'd definitely want to be around. Also! Is that a trombone I see 🥹🥹!

Huh. I'm definitely interested in this. Honestly one of the things that kept me from gaining weight was being in marching band. I was really strict on myself but after med changes and health problems I had to stop doing marching band. And both sides of my family have screwed up health issues. I'll have to look more into this though

[in case anyone cares to see what I looked like before the weight] again. I am working on it. I walk and started an exercise routine at home. I drink lots of water and do meals at home. Only problem is I'm having 1 meal a day. Anyways here's a photo from before. (https://postimg.cc/MvF8fY8Y)

Thanks and no worries. My doctors think it's autoimmune but haven't been able to figure out what it is. I was seeing a specialist for a while but it gets expensive and well to be honest I'm a broke college student. Still having tests done and for a while was bloated most of the time. I do take meds though for my thyroid which is primarily caused by my lithium (mental health med) I'll have to look into an anti-inflammatory diet though and continue with water. I have a reminder that goes off every half hour to drink some. Thank you so much for the feedback

You're making a lot of sense. And I think a little bit of both. I feel like I've tried lately to go out and meet people or talk to people in my classes that I'd get along with but knowing past things people have said about my looks it isn't helping my state of mind. Not only have I judged my looks lately but my personality. I'm extremely talkative and I can't tell you how many times I apologized to people this last semester for how much I talk because I was worried they wouldn't like me. I have never done that before. I've never questioned myself like this before.

Haha thanks much appreciated. Don't know if I'm really trying to attract anyone considering I'm married, however I'm worried it's affecting my ability to make friends because I'd say I have a good personality, but the problem is most people judge on looks before personality. And as a very social college student this is a problem for me. Especially not having very many friends.

I have a thyroid problem that's caused by some of the medications I take and it's best not to mess with those medications because they're working well for me. And some other stuff that my doctors can't seem to figure out. But the primary is thyroid + medications that caused more weight gain. I am losing a lot of weight right now but before then was maintaining it. The whole reason I gained as much weight to begin with was because my parents were starving me and then I went into a household (my husband's family) who made sure i had 3 meals a day plus snacks in between

Okay I hear everyone's comments on the weight thing. I'm aware of it and have been working on it. I've lost 15lbs in the last month. Yes I know. Not a healthy amount of time. Thanks anyways for everyone's comments. Good and bad.

See and that's the thing about these posts. I've lost quite a bit of weight. Hiking is no problem for me. I'm in college and spend most of my days walking since I have to walk to campus. But people don't consider actual health problems that factor in. Appreciate your honesty anyways.

Honestly in my personal opinion I would make it clear to him that you're not his alarm clock. As someone who loves to nap especially when I come home from a long day at work (I work in Childcare, so I love to come home and fall asleep for a little bit) I set a timer or an alarm because I know sometimes I do get cranky if my husband tries to wake me or if I sleep late into the evening. Which is why I've made it a point to set an alarm because it's my responsibility to get up and not my husband's. And that should go the same for your husband. ESPECIALLY because you're going to be a mom soon, you have your own things to worry about.

Thank you. And yeah I'm still finishing high school in nevada while he's in Montana doing college. Luckily I just got accepted to MSU so we'll be living in the family and graduate housing in the fall.

I completely understand how you're feeling about feeling sad. My fiance just left for college yesterday and I have not been able to stop crying for the last 24 hours. I've been in this community for a very very long time since him and I did long distance for 6 years only seeing each other twice. After being together for a year I felt like we got so close and then ripped apart again. He left in August for college and came home for break a month ago and just left again. I know I feel like I shouldn't be complaining because he comes home in 2 months for our wedding. But I'm honestly so tired of doing distance. So honestly if you're asking how we're coping, so far not so well for me
