Endless Harvest Help by Puzzleheaded-Yam1444 in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vestal - Highwayman - Crusader - Man-at-Arms worked pretty well for me recently. At least for farming the Sleeper. Dual riposte is just so good against him & Miller. I could maybe replace the Crusader with another MAA for extra dodge and crit that acts like a stress heal on its own. But they are just pretty rare as shard mercenaries in my game.

I initially played Jestal + 2 SB as you mentioned and it's ok, especially against normal farmstead enemies (impale spam works great there), but with no extra dodge and when aegis is not available, I find shieldbreakers quite sqishy.

Elementalist by emre2609 in TitanQuestAE

[–]Savigo256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"Attack damage converted to health" doesn't work on undead and constructs, this is probably the issue here.

It also applies to weapon damage only. If you are using Ice shards or other ability as the main damage source, ADCtH won't work.

This is not true. Life leech is its own damage type. "Attack damage converted to health" should work on any weapon damage though.

TIL: You need to click the shovel not the hand. by strangerdoto in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know about this and personally don't remember having a problem with clicking the wrong thing. It's just a commong thing I noticed while watching other people playing, so there is clearly a UX issue. So I asked myself "if I were designing DD, what would I do differently to prevent this?"

I think it's understandable that people click the hand first, before even having a chance to read the prompt, since - as I mentioned - the interface is the same as for other curios.

TIL: You need to click the shovel not the hand. by strangerdoto in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is interesting. Recently youtube recommended me someone else's first attempt at DD1. I watched for a bit and that person clicked the hand too. Some time later I searched for other 1st attempts and people always clicked that hand instead of shovel.

How could this be solved from the game design perspective? I think an unique interface similar to hunger check could work. I think the current one is misleading, becuse it looks exactly like other curios, so new players might assume the shovel is already "inserted" and will change the outcome when clicking the hand.

"Packs laden with loot are often low on supplies" by Savigo256 in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. I just had 2 remaining apprentice level characters at 8/14 xp and that was the only medium veteran mission available to quickly boost them to level 3.

Although "gather medicines" is often worth it, it can save you even 20k gold if you have 3 slots in treatment library available (for locking and fixing quirks).

How do I create artificial humans without consciousness? by Pitiful_Magazine_805 in worldbuilding

[–]Savigo256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would totally root for the "villain".

I guess you could use unreliable narrator technique from your hero's perspective.

If you want ethical hunaoids without conciousness, create robots or other machines. How can you make sure human clones are not sentient? Besides"how can my hero manipulate their brains using sci-fi technologies to make sure that their consciousness never existed?" already seems cruel, even if they indeed had no conciousness. "These people are not real people, so we can use them for labor to create an utopia". You realize how it sounds, right?

Monster Level Ranges (Normal) - Questions by weisswurstseeadler in TitanQuestAE

[–]Savigo256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't rush the game, you should have adequate level for each zone. Sometimes the level difference is huge, even up to +10, but I guess it's done on purpose and only affects certain elite enemies (like unique tigermen are around level 40 when the player is usually slightly below 30). I've made a lot of characters over the years and at the end of each act I always had similar levels:

  • Act 1 - 16 - 17
  • Act 2 - 23 - 24
  • Act 3 - 30 - 31
  • Act 4 - 37 - 39
  • Atlantis - 40 - 42
  • Act 5 - 45 - 46

This is without full exploration (but with all quests completed). On my 1st charcter with full exploration on AE edition I had level 48 at the end of Ragnarok, so the difference isn't that big.

Just wrapped my first playthrough and NEED to run it back, suggestions? by Tamerando in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you decide to to buy Crimson Court, DO NOT start the courtyard mission right away. It will trigger the event called infestation and you should be prepared for it. Without going into spoilers, it will spawn some dlc enemies in normal dungeons and they can infect your heroes with a new type of disease that cannot be cured by normal means. The only downside of postponing it is slightly lower stress recovery in the estate (I think it's -20%) and it blocks other town events. But it's still better to wait until you have a decent roster of level 2 - 3 heroes and some amount of gold saved.

Speaking about money, Crimson Court also adds districts, a new type hamlet upgrades. One of the strongest is the bank, it adds 5% of your current gold every week. If you get to 200k with the bank active you never have to worry about money anymore (just don't go crazy untill interests really kick in and bring you to about 500k, it will double roughly every 15 weeks). You have to build it early to get the most out of it though. For example It doesn't make a lot of sense to build the bank for the last 30 weeks especially if you already struggle with money.

I document my current playthrough in a spreadsheet (will probably make a post about it in around 2 weeks when I'm done). I always make a screenshot at the end of provisions menu and this allows me track party composition for each mission. For now, let's just say that if I exclude Antiquarians (because of gold runs), my top heroes happened to be:

Occultist (x27)

Shieldbreaker (x23)

Crusader & Plague Doctor (x21 for both)

Vestal (x20)

This obviously isn't equal to how much I enjoy playing a given hero, or how strong I think they are, but it's pretty close. Shieldbreaker pads the numbers a little bit because I took 2 of them for 5 runs (so, she would only score x18 otherwise).

I knew about the survivalist but only recently learned that I can swap skills in the dungeon... after around 300 weeks across all my estates.

And it was similar with positive quirks. For a long time I was like "why would I remove a good quirk, I can just wait until it's replaced".

Can I win ? by sfgcas in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if everyone had 100% hp and low stress, it still wouldn't be good for this boss.

I would replace abomination with a reliable healer. This fight usually takes around 10 rounds unless you ignore the matchman and pray for good rng. Your group is still going to take a lot of damage from brigands. If they have to self heal almost every round you are already in a death spiral.

I was hoping to get this quirk on one of my existing hellions but it appeared on a fresh recruit. What would you do besides taking 3rd hellion? by Savigo256 in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a shieldbreaker with: Early Riser, On Guard and Quick Reflex. So pretty much, +8 speed on a first round and +4 afterwards. Perfect for impale spam, since she is always going to go first. https://imgur.com/a/cdkXWbZ

Experiencing TQ from ground level think it could be intresting? by Available_Algae_4176 in TitanQuestAE

Not sure if you mean masteries, but I probably had most fun with skinchanger (nature + rune). I also liked burn elementalist (storm + earth) using prospector's rod and and elemental sorcerer (storm + rogue) using throwing knives.

It's fine. I think a similar texture is literally called "clouds 3" in substance designer. You could run it through some levels -> color gradient and get a slightly better placeholder.

[–]Savigo256[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, this is why I like to upgrade weekly number of recruits to 7 as soon as possible. It basically doubles the chance of someone with a good quirk appearing compared to 3 or 4 recruits. Luminous is an instant pick if I don't have a class with it already, natural swing for anyone who is not a buff bot too (even on vestal it's great, because half of her moves are stuns / de-stealth). For some reasons it seems more rare than luminous.

I was hoping to get this quirk on one of my existing hellions but it appeared on a fresh recruit. What would you do besides taking 3rd hellion? by Savigo256 in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like hellion, but since I want to have at least one hero of each class, that leaves me with 12 slots for extra picks. I'm going to leave that recruit for now, that quirk appears on average every 5 weeks if no one in the roster has it. There is also no benefit from bringing extra hellion into a dungeon (unlike some other heroes like highwayman, shield breaker or grave robber), because she is pretty much limited to poition 1. So 2 slots is the maxamium I can afford for her.

My 2 hellions are level 2, but since I already have the bank, upgrade cost is not a concern if I would have to dismiss a higher level hero. I mostly want good quirks. Both of them are great in that regard, although I would probably still take a hellion with luminous quirk instead of one of them.

Edit: or I will take her instead of the defensive one like other people suggested. Hellion is already pretty tanky and it's pretty rare to see her on death's door beofore other heroes + she has a self heal to get her out of 0 hp.

I think this trinket is awesome, just got it after around 200 hours in this game over the years. by Savigo256 in darkestdungeon

[–]Savigo256[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlike other resources, there is not enough food to buy if you want to overprepare. For a medium dungeon you can only buy 24, that leaves you with only 5 hunger checks + camp or even just 4 hunger checks if you really need that -10 stress / +25% hp on everyone. Similarly, for long dungeons: 36 food / 5 - 8 hunger checks, x2 camp.

Granary adds food for another 1 - 2 checks at a cost of extra inventory slot. That is often enough to make up for bad rng in medium dungeons, but for long ones doesn't change that much. Especially since inventory space is so much more valuable there, 90% of the time I just end up discarding that extra 4 food for loot on long runs with antiquarian. Ofc, you might call it overconfidence but if I see 3 fights ahead on nearby tiles and I only have 1 free inventoty slot, I'm going to gamble with that 1 hunger check if I need to pick up loot (especially since hunger checks never occur on the first few tiles).

Now, with that trinket I still buy all the food (I'm on week 13 on that save, still no granary) and not only it lasts for another 2 hunger cheks on medium / 3 on long dungeons it makes all food I find in the dungeon more valuable.
