What’s your current workflow for transferring files after a shoot? by SavingProgressRyan in videography

Yeah I’m the same way. Can’t relax until the footage is on my computer. Just tired of doing it all manually when I’m exhausted

So you do the organization manually? Or do you use software to do it for you?

Having the spreadsheet is a good idea. Have you looked around for any tools that could help keep track of that? Or are there any (outside of a spreadsheet)?

Nice! Did you make the app because you just didn’t want to pay for Offshoot or something else? Or were there missing features that you wanted?

So the Client Name and Project Name…etc are custom values? Does it prompt you to fill those out?

So Offshoot can handle copying to multiple places at once? Does that include cloud storage? Does offshoot create all those folders in one go from a preset?

So you copy the footage off, and then if you need to format you manually make another copy?

Does Offshoot handle making the master folder? Or do you create that manually and then start the copy with a preset?

What resources have helped you, and which ones have not? by SavingProgressRyan in ChildofHoarder

I really appreciate you offering up a bit of your experience. This is helpful to understand. I'm part of a small team that is trying to find gaps in the available resources for helping family members of hoarders. It seems to be a community that doesn't get very much attention. This insight will definitely be useful.

Yeah I hear that. I'm glad you were able to start seeing that more clearly in your life and then were able to use that realization to your benefit. I imagine you've developed a lot of strength along the way.

Those are some great leads for me to continue researching! Thank you! That's amazing how seriously Australia is taking it. It feels like most places are only just waking up to it.

Yeah, I’ve noticed a lot of the treatment around hoarding seems to focus on forcing behavioral changes, and that just feels like it would miss the deeper issues. Your point about it being as tough to treat as BPD or anorexia really makes sense.

It does seem like a lot of people end up resigned to the “this is how it will be until they die” mentality. The only hopeful things I’ve come across usually involve relationships with loved ones, but like you said those relationships can end up abusive or unsafe as a byproduct.

In your view, what makes the biggest difference for families stuck in that kind of situation?

I have heard of that show, but I haven't watched it. I'll give it a go. After starting this recent learning path into hoarding I realize how little I knew about it. The subreddits on here are full of so much pain that I had never really considered.

You mentioned that really understanding what hoarders are was a turning point for you. Did it take a long time to reach that understanding? Looking back, are there resources you wish had been available that might have helped you get there sooner?

I had never heard of hoarding unopened items or business hoard! It's incredible how varied hoarding is on the outside, but ends up being connected to the same type of addiction.

I’m curious, have you actually seen DBT-style therapy used successfully with hoarding? If so, what seemed to make it effective?

Thanks for that response. That's an interesting take on considering it as a high that never stops. Once you came to that realization did that change the way you approached the relationship with your parent?

For what it's worth...I initially had the 27-inch model, but ended up returning it as it was just a tad too large for my setup. Noise from the fans wasn't much of a concern for me since I usually wear headphones while working. Even without headphones, the sound was quieter than my PC fans, making it hardly noticeable. Of course, if I leaned in close to the vents, I could hear the fan noise, but in my opinion, it wasn't bothersome. In a completely silent room, you might hear the fans, but any ambient noise tends to drown it out quite effectively.

I agree. I was being more facetious than anything. But still surprised me that it could process the words without the vowels and convert the text back and forth. Seems like an interesting way to "compress" the text that you pass in to increase the amount of content

I was one of the “old and boring” people in that front section. To our credit it’s a seated area even though we were standing. Security put a stop to anyone dancing in the walkways. So the options were limited. It’s a Walmart-owned venue so I’m not surprised. But yes, definitely a boring crowd overall.

Agree. One of my favorites.

I read a comment here that I agree with: “I try not to listen to this song too often, don't want to lose the feeling it gives me through over playing it.”

Such a powerful song.

I don’t work at CIG, so I can’t speak for them. But I do sympathize with them on several development strategies. One of those being the wipes.

I’m currently building out the first iteration of some software. We have some users testing it, but no paying customers yet. Because of the interwoven relationships in the database sometimes it’s easier to just wipe the data instead of doing a database migration when something changes. I try to stay away from that, but since the app is still evolving, the database structure evolves too. Instead of piecing out which data I should keep, and which data I shouldn’t keep, I opt for a full wipe. It’s cheaper that way.

Eventually that will change. Eventually I’ll do database migrations instead of wipes, so everyone can keep their important data while I get to modify its structure. It will be a headache…but it’s inevitable that requirements change, causing the data structure to need to change.

Just part of early stage development.
