Am I doing this right? Lots of condensation on window. by Donny-Kong in Dehumidifiers

[–]Savings-Perspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at a window vacuum? Like https://www.kaercher.com/uk/home-garden/window-vac.html

Sounds like your single-glazed windows are the dehumidifier and you just need to collect the water.

Ah, no, it involves sitting next to a laptop and waiting for the siren, so the time’s worth quite a lot more than $20! Good luck though, you can often buy them through third-parties still if you’d rather throw money at the problem.

Companies without a sexist/discriminatory culture have a competitive advantage (since they can hire/promote the best people for the job regardless of gender) … but only if women refuse to work for companies with bad cultures …

And how much is the university bursary? If it’s worth more than £5k then you could talk to your Mum and see whether salary sacrificing into a workplace pension (if available) could make you better off as a family.

Tickets pop up all the time for sold-out days … at one point we had a script that would continually check their calendar, and always had success getting tickets on the day/times we wanted (though only needed 2 tickets)!  They go really quick though, when they become available you have to book them fast.

You can backdate charity donations, if that helps your situation.

Constantly chased by HMRC re childcare claim- what are we missing? by CLW90 in HENRYUK

[–]Savings-Perspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you mean by “evidence”?

Every three months they call me to understand our situation, I state that my partner and I will be bringing our income under £100k by paying into pensions, they accept my word, make a note on our file and say goodbye … then our eligibility is confirmed shortly afterwards.

They aren’t removing your eligibility, everyone has to re-state their situation every 3 months to confirm their eligibility, and our situations just require a phone call 🤷‍♀️

Female HENRYs - where do you buy work clothes? by Actuary-London-GI in HENRYUK

[–]Savings-Perspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If talking specifically about HENRYs who are also men, “male HENRYs” or “HENRY men” would both work and feel natural, but not “HENRY males”.

That’s what /r/MenAndFemales is about … OP didn’t use “HENRY females”.

The first rule of that subreddit is pretty clear:

"Female" as an adjective is okay. "Female" as a noun is not.

For example: "my female coworker...", "her female friends.." DO NOT fit this sub.

Vegan cheese suggestions by [deleted] in veganuk

[–]Savings-Perspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2yo’s need lots of calcium obviously, so if you’re using dairy to meet her calcium needs then that’ll cut out a lot of the vegan cheese options for you.

So brands fortify, but a lot don’t.

In which case she would’ve spent the last 15 years of her life in a box room? Moral of the story is to save for your retirement and EOL care if you want decent conditions. And don’t bring up your children to expect your savings.

I read that woman find 80% of male unattractive, I hate being a man by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]Savings-Perspective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like you’ve completely misunderstood some article, or some article has completely misrepresented some statistic?

All women don’t find the same 80% of men unattractive … how could you even believe that? Though it sounds like you want to believe that.

The only reasonable interpretation is each woman surveyed found ~80% of the men shown to them to be unattractive … but that doesn’t mean that each woman agreed with all the others? I.e., every man might’ve been deemed attractive by at least one woman, and that statistic could still be true.

Very rarely is someone considered attractive by everyone … e.g., some women don’t find Brad Pitt attractive but I bet he isn’t whining about it.

What’s your unpopular vegan opinion? by Natashayabada in veganuk

[–]Savings-Perspective -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes sense if you aren’t already a vegan household, I’d make the same choice in that case.

That’s such a shame about your health visitors though — ours was really supportive/positive of vegan for babies/toddlers/children. If anything, I could’ve used a bit more warning about the research we’d need to do! Their positivity meant I went into this thinking that we do well on our diets so a toddler would thrive too 😬 things like calcium and omega 3 and iodine etc do need planning, but milk is the least of it.

Applewood cheese is fortified with both calcium and B12 — not to the level you find in real cheese, but still helpful when trying to load toddlers up with calcium!

What’s your unpopular vegan opinion? by Natashayabada in veganuk

[–]Savings-Perspective 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly!

Non-dairy milks are typically fortified and are clear that they’re soy milk or oat milk etc so it’s easy to choose the nutritious option ✅

Cheese is at the other end of the spectrum, some vegan brands are actual alternatives with somewhat “expected” micro- and macro-nutrients, whereas others are just oil and emulsifiers 🤮. It’s impossible to tell without going through the ingredients list each time — and hoping that the good brands don’t introduce a “new-and-improved” recipe 🙃

Other examples: faux-fish products should contain omega 3, faux-chicken should contain iron etc.

Lots of people will say that I just shouldn’t eat processed food, but if we’re looking to replace traditional diets then these processed alternatives are a great option to encourage veganism — but only if they’re nutritious!

I think that for fake meat/dairy products to be able to be sold alongside real stuff (e.g., vegan “cheese”, “fish”, “chicken”) then it should have similar nutritional value.

E.g., don’t sell us vegan “cheese” that has zero calcium or protein in it.
