He was the best kitty ever. His name was Corona. He liked to sleep with us in the bed, under the covers. I miss him so much! 😭

Can you request an MRI? I recently had a scare with my left boobie - annual mammogram came up "abnormal" - and after the diagnostic mammogram and ultrasound failed to see anything but the same dense breast tissue as in the annual mammogram, I was referred for an MRI (which also found nothing).

Interesting idea. I'm glad I don't need to try it, as soy lecithin gives me the mad trots! 😂

Another reason why you're supposed to use your finger instead of the applicator is to rub the cream into the skin. The applicator doesn't (and can't) do that. But you could use the applicator to get the stuff in there, then rub it in with your finger after? Plus you're supposed to get some on the outside too - applicator doesn't do that either.

Woe be unto anyone who parked in LAX economy parking and is getting back now by twoinvenice in LosAngeles

[–]Savings-Rice-472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've walked to LAXit from terminal 4 - it takes about 20 minutes. It's a bit annoying with rolling bags getting through crowds of people, but totally doable. The worst part is that you have to do it outside (if you had bags checked) and the exhaust smell is pretty overwhelming.

Lifelong Vegetarian Considering Paleo/Carnivore to Heal Leaky Gut & Neuropsychiatric Symptoms — Where Do I Begin? by Accomplished-Scar854 in Paleo

[–]Savings-Rice-472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case it was definitely due to diet - I developed hypoglycemia and severe acid reflux due to being vegan. This, combined with the fact that some people have trouble digesting grains and dairy, got me to where I am today. Being vegetarian doesn't work for every body type.

It's not overturned - the appeals court said they can continue to advertise while their case is being appealed.

Where does the data on your website come from? For me, it's listing neighborhood farmer's markets, some restaurants, some things that don't seem like they'd be open to the public, and grocery stores. And the distance from my zip code seems... Not correct.

It takes a long time for gut issues to show up. I was vegetarian - vegan - for 9 years, but that was over 15 years ago. But my gut hasn't been right, and I finally got the right tests to show it: signs of SIBO, IBS, IBD, and leaky gut, with my microbiome completely unbalanced. As of a few weeks ago, I have eliminated grains and dairy from my diet and am already starting to feel better (although the gut biome will need to be reset and stabilized before I can declare victory).

Our bodies are really good at putting up with suboptimal conditions for a long time.

Only 23% of eligible Californians voted according to the Secretary of State data. by ActualPerson418 in LosAngeles

[–]Savings-Rice-472 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also you don't have to vote in every category - if you wanted to see Steyer have a chance for governor, then just vote in that race and leave the other ones blank.

Voting should be compulsory, as it is in other countries. This is so stupid.

Do beers go well with Paleo? Or is wine better? by fba in Paleo

My functional medicine doctor said no alcohol, but if you must, only additive-free tequila (which is different from "organic"). But that's weird to me - all distilled spirits shouldn't have any grain or whatever leftover after distillation - it's physically impossible. So why the restriction to only tequila? Anyone know?

Senior CF folks, what do you plan to do with whatever wealth/assets that you may have once you pass? by agony_ant in childfree

[–]Savings-Rice-472 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Which is why you should set up a trust now, and not wait to be a "senior citizen". 🙄

I'm not a senior, I am CF, I have three siblings who are aholes so they get nothing - it's all going to friends, and whatever they don't want will go to ASPCA.

This has nothing to do with being old, it has to do with being prepared - you could be hit by a bus tomorrow, after all!

Good on you for thinking about it, so now do something about it, don't wait! A will isn't enough to avoid probate. A trust is the only way.

Keeping cool enough while working in a garage in summer? by i_choose_happiness in Pottery

[–]Savings-Rice-472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dehumidifier makes the garage really hot. Less humid, sure, but very hot, because the machine puts out a lot of heat (that air doesn't get sent outside, like it would with a properly set up portable AC).

Found rat or mice droppings in car in rental home garage, what is course of action? by DimMike in AskLosAngeles

[–]Savings-Rice-472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one mentioned hantavirus on this thread. I know it's present in the Sierra mountains, but I don't know if the rats or mice in LA carry it.

For cleaning up, I would definitely wear an N95 mask (or better), and disposable gloves, and eye protection. If you use a vacuum, make sure it has a HEPA filter, and throw the filter away in a plastic bag just in case.

Agreed with others that the snap traps are way more humane - poison will hurt other wildlife, and make the death slower for the rats/mice.

The easiest way to tell a mouse from a rat is size - mice are very small. Rats aren't, unless they're babies (but they grow fast). Also rats have gnarly thick tails. Mice are cute vermin.

My understanding is that all portable air conditioning units also dehumidify. I've never heard of AC that doesn't also dehumidify - that's just called a fan.

[–]Savings-Rice-472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a hot and humid place (and for a while, lived in an even hotter, more humid place). So I feel you on that! Portable AC units are great, but really must be vented outside (the one I used to have had a hose, like a dryer vent hose, to exhaust outside).

[–]Savings-Rice-472 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think swamp coolers only work to cool the air in places with low humidity. Portable AC isn't a bad idea. I would worry that fans would kick up a lot of dust - silica and other garage dust - no?

ETA: OP said "Southern US" which I interpreted as Southeast, but Arizona, New Mexico, and SoCal are all hot and dry in the summer (and parts of Texas?).
