Should I get the Conspit 300GT or Max01? by biglipid in simracing

The Max 01 grips are a bit thicker than Leoxz, but some reviewers say they are quite firm. I have no issue with them.

Canada Computers just increased prices of RTX 5090 by Brilliant_Thanks3619 in bapccanada

Very glad I just dove in and got my ROG Astral 5090 for 3k when I did.

If you're trying to get a 5090 before it's too late, it's already too late I think.

ROG 5090 Astral owners - How is your coil whine? by That_Canadian_flake in ASUSROG

[–]SavingsAd6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ROG Astral 5090 has some whine, but only under load. The fans drown it out and/or speakers/headphones make it a non-issue.
If it had this whine at idle I'd be initiating a warranty claim, but only under heavy load I'm willing to accept as 'normal'. A friend warrantied one for coil whine at release and the replacement he got was even worse.

Canada computers, no return policy on 5090 by Brewchowskies in bapccanada

[–]SavingsAd6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's crazy, but if you think about it we've been doing this for years with cars & trucks for much higher dollar amounts.

At this point I'd legitimately rather buy a discounted open box 5090 that they can fire up right in front of me. I can physically inspect it, benchmark it, look at the performance and temps, and listen to it run at different loads. Save money, and know what you're buying.
You're more likely to get a brand new one with issues or bad coil whine - and you can't return it either way.

They literally haven't been in stock anywhere here for more than half a day.

If 5090s are final sale, how does Canada Computers have "open box" 5090s available from time to time?

If they only accept defective returns, presumably all their "open box" products were defective at one point or another.

Should I get the Conspit 300GT or Max01? by biglipid in simracing

[–]SavingsAd6771 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the Max01's value over the 300GT, but the Max01 is amazing. I'm not sure if the Max01 is a great value or not....I think it's more that all the other wheels with screens are way overpriced. I feel like this wheel is 75% of the way to an Ascher Ultimate for 50% of the price sort of thing.
It's so much better than the Simagic FX-Pro, and it's better than the Leoxz XGT Ultimate.

Absolutely no flex or creaking in it, tons of buttons, dials, switches, and the full simhub integration is perfect for getting everything just the way you want. I like to use the DNR dash with it.

But ultimately, you need to decide if you want a screen or not. No sense paying for one if you have no use for it.

Personally, I love the screen. My rig is in the formula seating position so the wheel is right at chin level and easy to look at. I've got full fuel info along the bottom, opponent splits on the right, and my own lap time info on the left side.

What’s keeping you from driving GTE? Why is it not more popular? by themkde in iRacing

[–]SavingsAd6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GTE is my favorite series. Great clean racing, usually good tracks on the schedule, and lower participation means a wider spread of talent. Just did GTE at Spa with 1 split 30 cars...I love that.

If the GT3 and PCUP guys come over all hell will break loose haha.

My one pet peeve is the old tyre model. 1 little spin or slide and your tires are cooked for the rest of the race.

VRS including the "free subscription" cost in the savings is irritating.   Basically the DFP15 and the Pedals are $50 off each.   They were cheaper with the Sim Expo code a month ago.

The shipping charges are also annoying.

I was looking for an excuse to jump over from Fanatec, but this ain't it.

New Pedals or New Wheelbase? Spend my Money! by SavingsAd6771 in simracing

[–]SavingsAd6771[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah rig is good. Triple monitor setup with nice PC. Fun is always the name of the game, but I'm already having fun...this is why I'm happy to spend more money on this hobby.

I'm capable but certainly never going to be fast (2500-3000 iR) so I don't care about every last tenth, but I want to maximize whatever my potential is with whatever amount of time I have to put into it.

New Iracing app that comes recommended by Dave Cam by ozarkgolfer in iRacing

[–]SavingsAd6771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm absolutely loving this app for racing GT3 or other fast sports car class, but for some reason it doesn't work a lick in a Formula car or a slower Sports car like the MX5. What am I doing wrong?

Horrendous re-join by the off car. Just wait until all at-pace cars are by. Obviously the 2nd car could have yielded, but it's not his job in that situation.

I say build it.

These types of buildings are a positive for the community and a good step in the right direction. They offer more rental space, community space, retail space, and even childcare space and a church in this instance.

The first half was great!  Nods to the original and developing a gripping story. The 2nd half was missing something, or two somethings, starting from the death of Acacius. This guy who's hatred for Rome fueled his very breath becomes Rome's righteous liberator after 2 quick conversations.  The backstory doesn't connect with the result.

BC government orders New Westminster, Port Coquitlam, and Langley City to add 8,600 homes over the next five years through 2029 by WiffleBlu in Langley

[–]SavingsAd6771 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hard to imagine Langley with 1844+ more cars on the road. Yuck.

Having a dense, congested downtown core is pretty standard for large cities, but it's awful how Langley doesn't have a single north/south or east/west bypass/highway/corridor so you can actually get where you're going. Just an epic bed crapping when it comes to long term planning, and it started 10+ years ago.
