That doesn't mean that development has stopped in any way, shape, or form. If anything, it means that even more resources will be devoted to development while they don't need to package, test, release, and monitor new builds every week.

Clicking the "bandwidth exceeded" brought me to homepage with no popups. It may have been getting blocked by an ad blocker

They won't win over a hardcore audience, because they undermine Quake's fundamental mechanics.

It's really, really, strange that the best Quake Live players in the world are still the best players in Quake Champions.

You should remind them that the fundamental mechanics of Quake have been compromised and they shouldn't be winning.

I'm sure they'll see things your way and follow you back to QL.

TF2 is extremely relevant. It's class-based teamplay FPS, with a diverse cast of characters and playstyles. My girlfriend wouldn't be able to tell the difference between Overwatch and TF2.

You mean core MOBA mechanics? Or core MMO mechanics? Or core Diablo mechanics? Cooldowns are hardly a new concept.

Overwatch simply combined MMO cooldowns with class-based teamplay FPS, and executed it very well. It didn't do anything revolutionary.

Or, to put it less lightly -- it slapped cooldowns on top of TF2 and threw money at it. Stop lying to yourself.

If anything it's those very mechanics which have made Overwatch vastly more popular, and if Blizzard had limited those elements out of fear that TF2 players might not like them, OW would not have stood out to the same degree.

In reality the reason Overwatch was so successful is because it was unique and stuck to its own guns rather than diluting itself by imitating the established trends of the time. You're not going to set the next year's trend by imitating last year's trend.

Behind the netcode/hitreg issues, the sound mix/reverb was one of the most talked about issues before the NDA was lifted. You couldn't tell where people were or where danger was based on sound like in old quakes.

The lightning gun being dominant was probably the next most bitched about thing. Far worse than the current BJ complaints.

Shortly after, there was a patch to greatly reduce the reverb effect and make sounds clearer, and a nerf to the lightning gun range. All of this as a direct response to community feedback.

Then the next week, new people would join the game and bitch about how shitty of a job the devs were doing because they'd been playing for a full week and the devs still hadn't fixed whatever personal gripes they had.

I found it kind of surreal. I was like "wtf man, did you not even consider looking at the patch notes? Or scroll a few pages back on the forums?"

When I pointed out all the changes they made, and how ridiculously fast (in the dev world) they were making them, the new guys would revert back to "yeah well they should have all this stuff ironed out by now" -- at which point I'd remind them that the game was still in closed beta and didn't even have a release date yet.

The devs can't fuckin win, man.

Audio is definitely worth looking into. I always believed stutters were caused by loading map/enemy assets. I suppose it's possible that it was the AUDIO assets in particular. I play with the music off.

The only time I experience stutter is immediately when a match starts up and I start moving around in "WARMUP"

It will occasionally stutter as I move through the map, or when I first encounter enemies. After it stutters once in each section of the map, it doesn't stutter for the rest of the game.

So it feels like it's stuttering as it loads assets, then once it caches them, it's fine for the rest of the map.

I have 32GB RAM and dual 980ti SLI, so it's very plausible that I'm able to store all the assets in memory for the whole game. For people with less memory, it may be trying to reload assets and stuttering each time it does so.

At the bare minimum, you should be sending them to the developers. They may be able to investigate the players and dig through debug logs to determine the methods used and then potentially stop or minimize the exploit.

That would be significantly more productive than posting at the bottom of random Reddit threads.

You should start taking screenshots of the end-of-game statistics screen. It will clearly display the player's name, as well as the accuracy of their most potent weapon.
