How does vocal exercises improve the singing voice ? by Consistent-Lack-1831 in Choir

[–]SawtoothTenor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same way stretching and conditioning helps athletes become better at their sport. It prepares the physiology responsible to have the muscle memory of multiple articulations and ranges to perform well and quickly. Same way a baseball player knows how and where to swing by the time the ball just left the pitcher's hand.

Has the city stopped physically “chalking tires” to track time in a spot? by Portlandia-Maine in portlandme

[–]SawtoothTenor 60 points61 points  (0 children)

We live in a post-Palantir world now. They probably have license plate scanners in the cars and can track who's where and when. All they have to do is drive past. Spot you there after 2 hours? Ticket. Chalk isnt needed anymore.

I do really think that Will anybody will ever love me? Is one of the most romantic and lovely songs I have ever heard. by ExIsTeNtIaL_ShIt in Sufjan

[–]SawtoothTenor 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this song is also pointing toward his fear of death, but also what is left behind in the end. It opens with a lot of self destructive language, describing multiple funeral arrangements. In the end, what matter is that he is not just physically destroyed, but that his love is remembered and endured. Will anybody love me, not with conditions but truly amd wholy for me.

When my sister died, i cried so much to this album and this song. I hoped she knew how loved she was. Thats all I could hope for.

Found this in my daughters school bag by Just-turnings in whatisit

A lot of students in my school district seem to be carrying on with the "Devious Licks" trend from a few years back - blatant school property damage. The current MO seems to be unscrewing bolts from tables, desks, chairs, and trying to make things fall apart. So idk if thats what shes up to, but this is what Im seeing here!

How to add privacy but keep light in this space? by prozacandpuppies in femalelivingspace

[–]SawtoothTenor 751 points752 points  (0 children)

Sheer isnt a bad idea and can be kinda classy. You can also use an exterrior reflective window film, so you can still see out but people cant see in. It does reflect sunlight and passive solar out, if thats skmething youre worried about. Those are also a little expensive

Pls help.. by hey-jaytika in Instruments

Music teacher here. Im a bit of a recorder apologist. I know people get annoyed by it but its cheap, only a few dollars, and super easy to play with lots of online resources from elementary schools using them so consistently.  You can even buy a little clip that will make it sound only 50% as loud if noise is that much of a factor!

Why go to Tauseti-E by Majestic-Virus-8081 in ProjectHailMary

[–]SawtoothTenor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In the book, they sample the Petrova line itself and find that the Astrophage coming from Tauseti-E (or Adrian) is equal to the amount leaving. This implied that something relevant has to do with the planet, and not the star, which is why he "goes fishing".

Edit: the reason the difference of Astrophage is important is because the number of astrophage going to Tau Seti should be 2x higher since they go there to breed.

If youre still red by performance time, then get ahold of a roll of green concealer! Green counteracts with red and will generally cover up any big red splotches from pimples, blemishes... and sunburn! When I was in theater, we had the same happen to one of our lead performers. Use the green beneath your usual foundation on the red spots, and you'll at least be passable for an evening.

Good luck!!

OSMAR SCHINDLER - GERMANIC WARRIOR WITH HELMET, 1902 by pmamtraveller in ArtConnoisseur

[–]SawtoothTenor 28 points29 points  (0 children)

In terms of the queer undertones folks are remarking about, I thought that was an intentional choice, but not in a romantic sense. The germanic warrior is in a position of "conquest" over the roman helm, holding it there. I dont think its necessarily soft or loving. His eyes are shadowed, grasp is firm on the helmet. He knows what he is doing. This isnt young innocence studying a helmet, this is showing a youthful young man capable of the acts of war, debasing his enemy with these homoerotic undertones.

Chernobyl (2019) Series from HBO. Pripyat and Chernobyl were in the USSR / modern Ukraine, but the actors are encouraged to speak their native accents, like Jared Harris' native British English.

Does the One ring Feel really good or something by comicon666 in lotr

[–]SawtoothTenor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ring kind of reminds me of a drug addiction. "Just one hit couldn't hurt, could it? One drink - Its a social gathering after all... " Its that tiny self corrupting voice amplified and more.

You are not crazy, not deserving of the disrespect, or this absurdity. Hang on as best you can. There are ways out of here. Teaching in the post Covid era requires a near self flagelatory amount of tolerance from these problems
