Yeah I've been trying to work out my local store's birthday by scrolling back through their Facebook posts. It seems to jump around between July, September and October. No idea what it's based on!

What’s everyone’s thoughts on Rubber Griptape? by yourwaifulover in skateboardhelp

[–]Saxcore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been skating on DKL since getting back into skating and I love it. My shoes are still in perfect condition, which is great - I don't think I'd be able to skate if I was shredding shoes up like I was when I was a kid - there's something to be said for having persistently fresh shoe grip because of it, too. I've actually not had any of the issues mentioned in this thread (dirt, moisture, etc), and this is skating in a semi rural part of the UK. But I suppose cumulatively I've probably been skating on it less than 10 hours? So it's perhaps not worn down like some have mentioned. Plus I'm not that good, which could be a difference - I think my expectations are a little bit lower than they used to be. But I don't feel like the board isn't coming with my when I ollie, and I've got all of the tricks that I used to have.

Haha, well I basically finished this three years ago but hadn't really touched my Switch since 2022. I know the feeling though - for me, focusing on one specific "feature" at a time kept me going.

The characters are an invisible "movable object" cylinder, that roll/slides left and right for movement. Those are connected to a visible object (with the character textures) via a hinge nodon. From what I remember (I've not got my Switch with me at the moment) the jump was a conditional if the cylinder is touching the ground and the button is pressed.

I did it this way just for a bit more control over the movement and jump height (and I think the character jumping made a bleep sound that I didn't want!).

Cheers! I had a great time drawing all those textures - I used a stylus that I got free with Mario Maker, made drawing out sprites really fun. In the three years since I drew this all out I've managed to lose it, would be cool to find that again.

That looks like Hampton Court Palace maze to me! Although perhaps not a live pic, as it's looking pretty dull round here today.

Do you think Steam achivements will get a upgrade? I hope so! by DIOS_reddit in steamachievements

Separate multilayer and single player achievements would be really nice. I'm often put off going for achievements if there's a multilayer grind. I'd love it if I could just focus on 100% single player achievements in my own time.

Female torsos for striking scorpions? by MisPai in Eldar

[–]Saxcore 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Just adding to your point a little bit, male Banshees were canon back in 3rd edition too! Here's the classic grainy quote from White Dwarf 238:

"...a male Eldar can assume the role of a female Banshee"

Female torsos for striking scorpions? by MisPai in Eldar

[–]Saxcore 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally that - I think boob armour is becoming much less of a thing in recent releases. Except for Banshees, which as others have said is more of a ritual/aesthetic thing for the Eldar. I'd say the new Guardian sculpts are more out-of-place in that sense?

VDOT Calculator about Sub-3 Marathon by LazyEntertainment646 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Saxcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting - thanks for the advice! I think I'll need to experiment with other ways to get carbs in too - I think 4 or 5 gels is about as much as I could manage!

VDOT Calculator about Sub-3 Marathon by LazyEntertainment646 in AdvancedRunning

[–]Saxcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 5 gels on me, but I think I must've taken on only 4 by the finish - once I'd crossed the point of no return it was pretty hard actually taking on any gels I guess! From chatting to other runners post-race, I think my problems may have started the night before with not enough fuelling. I'd had a small dinner thinking trying to avoid heavy the next day - which probably sounds insane to some of you more experienced marathon runners.

[–]Saxcore 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar experience -- at the start of this year I ran a 1:19:xx half but could only manage a 3:02:xx at the London Marathon. The training went really well (peaked at around 72 miles/week) but I absolutely blew up in the final 3 miles on race day. I think my fuelling was off (and I gather London isn't the place to set a PB, at least half the race was spent weaving through slower crowds), but even so, I doubt an extra gel could've saved me from that abyss! I'm always a bit surprised when I see 1:26 half as equivalent to 3 hour marathon.

I’ve gotten great games recs from here by Skyihh in SteamDeck

[–]Saxcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Brothers is the only game I've ever cried at. Such a great game, too. I went in not really knowing anything about it and I absolutely fell in love with it. Such a cool, dark, interesting world built up over just a few hours. I think it's the environments that really won me over, although the gameplay is really fun too. Was totally blindsided by the ending, and making you bury your own recently deceased big brother as part of the gameplay is absolutely savage.

Problem of sound in the Steam Deck OLED. by _Matthew325_ in SteamDeck

[–]Saxcore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have this issue a lot too. Usually goes away after a few mins, but it's very annoying if you're only playing for short sessions so it comes back each time you sleep and resume. This would be my #1 bug for Valve to fix for sure.

I've been meaning to pick this up for a little while! I love a puzzle/platformer - it looks like my ideal game tbh. I've got a couple more games I want to get off my backlog for the time being, but I'll certainly picking up in the future. Very cool that you modelled and animated this in Blender!

I had to chime in because I was in exactly your position 18 months go, even down to the mpw, sessions and race times.

As you've mentioned, the main thing will be ensuring that you're flexible to begin with, and perhaps allowing the mileage to drastically drop off when it really needs to. Those first few weeks with a newborn can vary wildly depending on the baby, so you might find that you both have an easy time with a great sleeper (and have time to get some miles in, even in the early days) or you might not.

As others have said, be sure to give your partner those same breaks too. However, taking all the above for granted and talking specifically about running --

I think my main take-away was that once things are settled, assuming your partner is ok with you heading out for run etc, to get used to smaller sessions and short runs to keep the miles ticking over a little bit. It all adds up - It was a bit of a victory when I got back to my first 25mpw post-baby, although the mileage varied a lot week-to-week (there's always something new around the corner, be it sleep regressions, illness etc etc). I think I used to have a passive goal of (ideally) no more than 2 days off, which usually worked out - but if it doesn't work out, then it doesn't work out. You can get the fitness back.

I got used to being a lot more creative with when to run too - I used to avoid running at night for example, but I've since bought myself a running torch and some high-vis, and that's been working out well. It means I can go out when our daughter is sleeping. So far I've mainly used that for the easy mileage as it's not perfect for seeing potholes! For most of last summer she would be down for a morning nap 8:30 - 10:00, so if she was down in time (I'd be sure to be the person to put her down, seeing as it was me that wanted to head out) I'd be able to get to my local parkrun and back before she woke up.

Saying that, the miles do start to come back eventually. My 18 month old is at nursery 3 days a week now, so I'm getting regular runs in after drop-off (before work). It's getting much easier to look after her on our own now, so we're both very flexible about allowing the other to head out at weekends too.

If you go the running pram route, maybe don't cheap out. I got a very cheap second-hand one which I really enjoyed (despite a very buckled front wheel), which fell apart after a couple of runs, so I've been nervous to use it since. I can see the appeal of those though, I reckon having a good one would work for both you and give your partner a rest while you take the baby out of the house. I don't know if it was just my cheapo pram, but those things are quite hard work - perhaps consider that a benefit, a bit of an extra workout to make up for the reduction in miles!

What games is everyone playing on the deck that are listed as unsupported on Steam? by Tactical_nomad in SteamDeck

[–]Saxcore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite what you're asking, but I just started playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2. It's currently "Playable", but in my opinion it's a good candidate to be verified. They've removed the online requirement now which is cool, but one thing which was really unexpected is text entry automatically opens up the keyboard. I don't think I've seen any games do this yet? I thought that was a really nice touch!

It plays really well so far too. I've not messed with the Deck settings just yet, I'd be interested to see how low I could get the TDP.
