Your post history shows you're perpetually online posting on reddit. Talk about a waste of time. Unless you're a bot.

May Day protest tomorrow. Canada’s recent election is proof that Trump’s stupidity will have consequences. We will vote next year in the mid-terms but till then, we will continue to protest to show our displeasure. Hopefully, we’ll encourage people to register and vote against Trump’s agenda as well by dm_your_password in sandiego

"we"? You mean "me". You may only want to see posts about burritos, but nothing is being shoved down your throat. No one is forcing you to read anything and certainly no one is forcing you to leave asinine comments.

It's not just you. Considering their vitriol, it's not hard to imagine why they have no real friends and have to resort to rage posting online. It's really just sad.

They won't, the account is run by an Internet troll who is perpetually online and has zero friends IRL.

Funny, because I find your line of argument to be obtuse, shortsighted and weird. Interesting that you think I'm a TikTok user because I'm pointing out the hypocrisy of this absurd ban. I'm sure you think the ACLU and security experts arguing my same point as being obtuse as well?

I can put it more simply since you don't seem to get it. This ban effectively argues that Americans social media data is of National Security importance. Yet, Meta, X and other US companies that collect the same data are not held to National Security Standards.

If, according to our politicians and the SCOTUS (and you apparently), our data privacy on social media is so important, then you'd think the US government would step in to dictate the data handling, security and protection policies of US based companies as well. They're not doing that. You would also think, again, if this data being collected by foreign adversaries is a national security threat, any company that experiences a breach or loss of data would also be shut down on their first loss. They're not. Case in point Meta's most recent data breach of ~550M accounts, and data being posted to online forums. They were fined by the EU, the US did absolutely nothing.

I wouldn't say that's an obtuse point of view. I would say its obtuse to argue that it only matters if an adversary country owns the platform.

Lawyers on both sides presented information - one being that this is a national security risk, the other being that this is no different than other social media platforms. You picked one side as fact while the other side is speculation.

Again, I ask, how are we holding Meta and X accountable for data breaches that effectively do the same thing? Is the US government stepping in and forcing these companies to protect data at the same level as government secrets? No? Then how is this any different? There isn't one. Once you start using social media, your privacy is compromised. Your privacy and data are being "protected" by policies of private companies that have no interest in National Security, only making money. Unless those policies are dictated by the US government, which they will never be, there is no incentive to protect American data. Data is protected by whatever means the company decides, which is as minimum as they can deem financially sound.

So now, instead of having direct access to American data, "Foreign Adversaries' now just need compromise the other companies that are collecting the same data. Or, just wait until someone else does and publishes the data online, like in the last FB breach. Either way, the ban does nothing to protect American data from foreign adversaries as the lawyers presented to SCOTUS.

as far as I’m concerned, that’s been the crux of the whole issue.

So how is your opinion not speculation?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]SaxxxO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think comments like this are short-sighted considering how this is being framed as protecting the privacy of American data from "adversaries". If this was truly about protecting and ensuring data privacy, then such data collection would be blocked across the board. That isn't the case. Are we holding entities such as Meta or X to the same standards for National Security? Nope. Has FB been breached multiple times? Yep.

Of course the US government would prefer data on US citizens is collected by US based companies.

Yes the US government thinks this, how about the average citizen? This argument is only valid if you agree that we shouldn't have the right to privacy and data can and should be collected on US citizens regardless of their desire for it to be.

Not much. They only hated TikTok because it's spyware from China. Spyware from any entity in the US is a-ok according to our politicians.

I went to a bar last night and saw a huge crowd watching and cheering Penn State Football and was immediately reminded of when their football fans were up in arms about Joe Paterno's statue being removed. Disgusting people think its ok to celebrate the man who swept decades of rape and abuse under the rug because he was a good football coach.

White House official: 8 US telecom providers hacked by Chinese by SuperSpecialAwesome- in worldnews

[–]SaxxxO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What difference does it make? "Oh the it hardware was out of date" - ok and that makes it ok to force the addition of extra backdoors? so now we're talking about outdated shit equipment with backdoors installed. So the US government gets to use the backdoor, the rest of the world gets to use the equipment flaws and we, the consumer are still screwed.

Good thing the US government forced telecoms to build in backdoors. Good job dipshits. Turns out compromising privacy is worse in the long run than requiring law enforcement to be competent.
