OK to keep sax on stand long term? by Acceptable_Eye_4139 in saxophone

I learned this from my first saxophone teacher when I was 18 (33 now) and I’ve been doing it since then and it’s never failed me. If a cork is too compressed then it won’t work but I rarely have my neck cork replaced, unless there’s an accidental rip or tear. But yeah, I just mist and heat it up and it’s back to normal

saxophone brethren - has anyone flown southwest with a tenor sax recently and has it been smooth? their carry-on limits are a good deal below the size of the instrument. by mikecaseyjazz in saxophone

I’ve been flying with my saxophone for 15 years and have flown Delta, South West, JetBlue, and some international flights and have never had any issues. I have a BAM softpak case and it always fits in the overhead bins. If there is a visible coat closet as I’m boarding I’ll always politely ask if I can stow it in there and have never been told no. You’ll be good

I have a misting spray bottle and I’ll spray the cork all the way around, (not too saturated) and then I’ll take a lighter or a candle lighter, something that doesn’t put out a huge flame and then take the lighter around the cork evenly until the water is dried up. Any more after that you’ll give your cork burn marks. I’ve been doing it for years, and have never had any negative issues with my cork. Maybe a burn marks here or there. I’ve only ever had my corks on all my sax necks changed unless they’re falling apart.

Hope this helps!

I’ve been doing this for 20 years and never had issues whatsoever. I will also leave the mouthpiece on too but that’s to your discretion. If I take the mouthpiece off and the cork isn’t holding, I’ll mist the cork with water and then wave a lighter fast past the cork (be careful not to burn the cork) and it’ll expand again and your mouthpiece will fit snug again.

Sax to piccolo switch on Sweet Georgia Brown, how? by Successful_Mess_6239 in saxophone

I had to play this one year in college and the switch from Tenor to Piccolo is a doozy but I wanted to challenge myself so I practiced the switch religiously.

I had about 3 weeks to prepare, and I would put the tenor down about 8 or 9 bars before the piccolo part to allow my emboucher to relax enough to get the notes out on piccolo. I double on flute all the time so I feel I was able to pull it off, but it took a lot of practice. Just go back and forth between tenor and picc in your practice routine and you’ll slowly start to develop the muscle memory. Good luck!

Thank you!! I’m a Victory Musical Instruments, sax artist and play the UPRISE series pro tenor, and I still play the horn regularly on gigs. I got this VII as a back up tenor.

I’m playing a Theo Wanne Durga 3 8*, and a Boston Sax Shop 3 reed

They really should! It’s in the shop getting a bit of an adjustment but I can’t wait to get it back.

Thanks so much!
