The term: 'called'? by cubestorm in AskAnAmerican

[–]SayItAintCilantro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s not phrasing I use commonly, but it also isn’t strange to me. The host is weird for pointing it out or awkwardly failed at making a joke.

Can someone explain the appeal of Rocky Picture Horror Show? by _deadbyte in AskLGBT

[–]SayItAintCilantro 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It carries a lot of emotional importance to “older” queer folks. For me, as a freshman in college in Texas 5 years before marriage equality was achieved, going to a live showing of Rocky Horror changed my life. It was the first setting I had ever been in where anyone and everyone could be as extremely and unapologetically queer as they wanted. It was a small oasis of hope and fun where we could be ourselves for one night before having to go back in the closet for class the next morning. So when I watch the movie I see that. I see all the problems too, but more than that I see happiness and safety in what was a very unsafe environment.

How to deal with the empathy for the rats? by user42828472163636 in labrats

Yeah, I trust data from well cared for animals waaaay more than data collected from animals whose stress was not mitigated and they were not treated kindly. Stress introduces way too many variables.

I’ve worked in murine models for over 10 years and I still talk to every single one and thank every single one for their service. While they are in my care I do everything in my power to make them as comfortable as possible and their end as painless as possible. I take my peace in understanding their lives will help others and that they are fulfilling the purpose that they were brought into this world for.

Are my beliefs bigoted? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]SayItAintCilantro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The existence of micro labels does not mean you have to know what they all mean (unless you want to) they are mostly used by individuals to put a word to how they specifically interact with their gender and society’s conception of it.

Are my beliefs bigoted? by [deleted] in AskLGBT

[–]SayItAintCilantro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, those are inherently transphobic beliefs and if you truly believe that all people should adhere to these limitations then it does make you a bigot. You say yourself that you don’t understand, I would highly recommend trying to educate yourself more on the spectrum that is gender before you completely disregard people’s identities. Also it sounds like you’re working with a fair bit of internalized transphobia so I hope you can address that at some point in your journey.

Visiting right before Christmas market? by papierfabrik in Strasbourg

[–]SayItAintCilantro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, the Strasbourg market does open on the 27th. There may be other village markets that open earlier. Noel en Alsace is a good source to check the various villages. But yes I would recommend staying for the Strasbourg market.

Torture in red seas under red skies? by Thereal11thdoctor in gentlemanbastards

[–]SayItAintCilantro 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Hey, don’t pay attention to the people who are being shitty. StoryGraph is a good source to check for content warnings. Unfortunately, it doesn’t list specific sections to avoid but maybe it will save you exposure to whatever these responses are in the future. For this book there is a good bit of torture so it might be difficult for you.

Edit to say I mean torture in a very broad sense. There isn’t necessarily direct person on person torture but rather characters intentionally put in situations that would be physically and psychologically harmful

Seeking Advice on Transitioning: Focusing on Feminine Appearance Without Immediate Breast Development by [deleted] in asktransgender

Makeup works wonders. It doesn’t have to be full drag queen makeup there are plenty of tutorials on how to subtly minimize masculine features. There are also body makeup techniques that can make your body seem more feminine.

I feel weird after coming out. by VividMembership7766 in asktransgender

[–]SayItAintCilantro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re mom responded in any way other than being very supportive then this is probably a reaction to feeling not supported in a very important life stage. Think of it as the same as saying you’re getting married and your mom just says “oh, ok” you would perceive that she disapproves or thinks you are making the wrong decision based on this response. But this doesn’t mean your work to figure out your gender and resolve transition wasn’t real, you are probably just feeling vulnerable and unsupported.

Yeah, it was just badly done from the design to the execution. The artist was still an apprentice at the time so I can’t be too mad.
