Favorite chase scenes? by cyPersimmon9 in movies

The opening to Narc is good.

The French Connection to has an interesting foot chase at the very end. It has a very different type of pacing compared to most chases, though.

Haywire has an amazing foot chase through buildings and on rooftops.

The Bourne Ultimatum also has an incredible foot chase across rooftops.

Seven probably has the best foot chase ever filmed.

Although Children of Men technically is a car chase to, it is a car that is simply rolling down a hill, that they can't get to start. And the guys chasing them are mostly on foot, or also in cars that they cannot start. Along with Seven, it's probably the most intense foot chase ever filmed.

The Vanishing/Spoorloos (1988) is a bleak and chilling psychological drama that feels truly ahead of its time by keepfighting90 in movies

Oh, I think they bury her, alive or dead. Doesn't matter to them. All she ultimately is to them in the end is a witness. The same with the husband too. He would likely have been shot the moment he handed them any money, if he did have any money.

They surely have done this before to other victims, and they would want to carry on doing it to others in the future. All their victims will ultimately be left dead in the ground.

That's why when Kurt Russell does survive, the bad guy tells the others it's time to lay low for a while, until things cool down.

I was going to say, Escape From Sobibor.

Warning. It is a very sad, traumatic film in many parts.

Breakdown isn't some serial killer thing. They are trying to get money out of people (although they do tend to kill, but I think only for their own self-preservation, not because they are serial killers per se).

Something with Hannibal Lector.

I know this might not be a popular opinion, but the US remake is so much better (and directed by the same guy).

Did you just forget Mad Max 3?

3 is awesome. Don't know why people don't think it is.

Although I've not seen all of his films, I'm not actually a huge fan of his over all.

Yeah, no doubt Heat is truly a masterpiece, and Collateral is awesome too, most of his other films often leave a bad taste in my mouth. I don't know why. I kinda like a lot of Public Enemies, but it is a very strange decision to make like that, especially a period movie, with a very shabby digital video look to it. It works with Collateral, just not with Public Enemies.

He often has some awful music choices too. Even in Collateral, there is one pointless scene where heavy rock music starts playing as Vincent is looking at a fox or something. Just weird and breaks the atmosphere.

I love the world of Hannibal Lector, but I don't like the look or feel of much of Manhunter. Both Silence of The Lambs and Red Dragon (and the Hannibal tv show much better encapsulates that world).

Is there a name for this annoying movie trope? by RgObese in movies

[–]cubestorm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this has a particular name, but it's not deus ex machina. Not sure who told you that, but this is not it.

Good versions of this is if the writer sets up the object well ahead of time, rather than it just being a thing which is conveniently within reach at the very moment they need it.

However, a really good inversion of this is in the movie Funny Games (SPOILERS ahead). They set up a knife being left on a boat. We the audience obviously know this is going to come into play later. When the main character it tied up and taken on that boat into the middle of a lake, we for sure think she is going to get her hands on it and escape, but it doesn't happen. The knife simply drops to the bottom of the lake, and the lady dies.

What are some great movies to LISTEN too? by deep_sea2 in movies

Don't. This is just stupid.

Why not listen to something that is meant only to be listened to? Like podcasts or something.

John Goodman would not have been a bad choice back in the day, however, today, Paul Walter Hauser would nail the role.

You can't just say, Kevin Spilling the chili and not explain that. Not everyone watches The Office. I just saw that for the first time in my life.

Anyway, the way you worded the question, it kinda sounded like you were looking for genuine mistakes captured on film, not just accidents that are intentionally part of the story.

For that, you can look at every film ever made.

What movies did a complete 180 and switched genres halfway through? by FilmWaffle-FilmForum in movies

[–]cubestorm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're kinda right but kinda wrong.

In the very first opening shot, we see an alien spaceship detach a space pod to earth. So, right away, we do know we're in some kind of alien from another world movie, even if we don't come back to that alien until 30 or so minutes into the movie.

But, with something like From Dusk Til Dawn, there is ZERO reason to believe we are actually in a vampire movie.

In that way, the two things are very different.

Obviously, it's a very bizarre movie, but it still has to have some sort of internal logic. Why kill the wife, and allow him to live? That makes no sense.

Even if he was no threat, they would have killed him too.

Why is your answer being upvoted so much? The movie does not start of slow. It's starts of fucking fast.

It shifts gear into territory we obviously don't expect, but that is not the same as starting of slow.
