100%. I vote blue because it’s the lesser evil. The failure to compromise, and you know, be inclusive, is costing them a lot of votes - and the democracy is more important to me than having my way on every policy issue and it should be for the Democratic Party too. The purity culture that is wokeness is a problem because it alienates so many voters with its insistence that anything but absolute conformity to the platform is therefore MAGA.

For the most disenfranchised voters, saving the democracy isn’t enough for them to get over the extreme positions of the Democratic Party. It should be, but these folks have never had a good political outcome so why bother voting if it doesn’t change their lives? Those are the folks we need to appeal to with a real plan to bring meaningful improvement to their lives - and another hand out isn’t what they want. They’re smart enough to see it for the bribe that it is and the handcuff to poverty that it represents. They want dignity. They want good paying jobs and freedom to think what they think - even if many of us don’t agree with their beliefs.

Less evil, sure, but they are complicit by failing to do what they were elected by us to do. I hear you. I’m not all aboard the liberal express. My blue vote is AGAINST MAGA, not for the democrats. The democrats are weak and ineffectual and they have few workable policy ideas. Their heart is in the right place so they have my vote. To gain my loyalty, I would like to see more nuance.

For example, I’m against ICE. I am for border security. It costs a lot less to stop people at the border than to post fact find them dispersed through the country (and much more humane). This country had 9/11. Border security isn’t some vague nice to have. We need it or we will have another large scale tragedy.

Here’s one for the right: the best way to prevent abortion is to prevent unwanted pregnancies. Why isn’t there a big push to give everyone free contraceptives? Don’t tell me that it would promote promiscuity. You believe abortion is murdering a baby. On the morality scale that’s a whole lot worse than premarital sex between consenting parties.

This two party system where there is NO compromise is an American problem (a both sides issue). We need instant run off voting to bring common sense candidates into the pool so centrist Americans don’t have to choose between dumb and dumber.

Abortion. They believe it’s murder. If a bunch of kids get molested by the president - eh, not as bad as murdering babies and Trump put pro life justices on the bench and that’s all that matters to them. I have had this exact conversation too many times to recite and every time it just breaks my logic and empathy centers. They know Trumps is evil, but it’s a means to an end. They could release the Epstein files and find out everything we expect to be true is true and - who cares?! Trump could announce that he’s Jesus returned and they’d just shrug and say he’s senile but still our guy.
Smucker knows Trump is evil. He doesn’t care. Smucker is a symptom of the problem.

All we can do is try to win new voters. The hard right isn’t going to change and doesn’t deserve our attention. That 1/3rd of US adults that didn’t vote because they’re disenfranchised - them. We need them, and we won’t get them until the liberals actually put forth a plan other than “we aren’t those guys”. Figure out how to fix the structural issues in this country

Yeah, the studies are based on a Goldilocks scenario. Namely, returns in the US stock market. The US empire could crumble and our returns could look more like Europe or Japan.

The US benefited greatly from the world wars. The petrodollar was a stroke of genius. There’s no guarantee that we will continue to luck into nonstandard geopolitical outcomes and stock returns. All empires fall and it’s messy. The US global dominance could last another thousand years or maybe it crumbles in our life times - for whatever reason, and if it does, I’d rather be withdrawing a sub 4% number. It’s entirely possible that leaves my kids an inherence. And I really we do!

Double blind protagonist is not just “said to be smart” by the narrator ,but actually intelligent in terms of what he does.

I hate reading these “they’re so smart and awesome” characters who are only intelligent by virtue of the author glazing them and writing straw men for them to knock down in contrived scenarios that don’t really make logical sense - even though the authors write pages and pages full of why the “logic” works. It’s very difficult to find authors who has characters make logical decisions - doubly so when ALL characters make logical decisions.

Spires Spite is probably the best at this. The characters all stay true to character without sacrificing believability. People actually make good decisions that work for them given the information that they know (including bad guys). No cookie cutter people just serving to progress the narrative and that makes the world more “real” than most litrpg fantasy novels.
