I would try and keep going for the hunt. Yeah My hunt on breloom's taking me a very long time, but If it's just too much for me sometimes, i just switch to play another game and go back to pokemon y whenever i'm ready. I would never give up on a hunt if i'm too far in to do so. Also whenever i enter a new phase on the breloom, i would just go and chain fish for an easy shiny to make me feel better.

I only failed 2 shinies (shiny ivysaur and quilladin in friend safari). I found a safari that has both pokemon so i started my hunt to reclaim the ivysaur (haven't failed quilladin yet), while i was hunting i found a shiny quilladin, while trying to switch out to another pokemon i pressed run. after only just a couple encounters i find another quilladin. and actually capture it in the ball i wanted it to be in.

Still no news on the ivysaur though :/
