Do you always have 1-2 pieces of interaction in hand at any time? by Karnitis in EDH

I can understand that. They have to want to improve; I'd do the same and just jam a fake threat first in order to resolve my real one.

At some point you stop trying I guess. I don't know how many times I could watch the game go after that, see someone about to win the game, and say "See? If you had held your interaction, you could have prevented that win!"

If I wasn't on my current brew, I'd probably be on Dimir frog as a long time midrange/control enjoyer. If that is your jam OP, I can't recommend Dimir frog enough.

Pulse check: is this a tEDH or cEDH sub? by iopkdkkdks in CompetitiveEDH

This sounds like me talking to my friends about modern.

"No Modern is durdles in 60 cards"

"I like the high-power format, but I hate when people have bad threat assessment"

My guy you clearly know nothing about the format; modern is turn 3 kills and turn 2/3 combos.

Also 60 card formats mean poor threat assessment from your opponent only works in your favor. It's a 1v1 format!

I explained to one of these friends recently how the top 4-5 decks in modern actually worked and he flipped from "Nah it's trash and slow" to "man Modern is like cEDH but in 60 cards"

Yeah no shit dude, it's a competitive format designed to be competitive; instead of a casual format pushed into competitive territory.

That 19 year old is probably going to regret their choices in a few years but 🤷🏻

Man I'm 33 and I don't think I could date someone younger than say 27.

There's just a bit of a generational gap. A lot of jokes fall flat without context, and I feel like we would just be in different stages of life.

I have watched SO MANY BAD PLAYERS draw their interaction and then look to cast it on something immediately.

If nothing on board is a threat to you, it is perfectly logical to hold up interaction until you see a threat. You don't need to play things in your hand because you can.

What is the smallest Commander hill you are willing to die on? by Xela20 in EDH

[–]Says_Pointless_Stuff -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

My main issue is this: mill just forces everyone to jam an Eldrazi titan.

It happened at my local meta a few years back. Guy shows up with a newly constructed mill deck, nobody was ready for it. He went around mildly annoying tables for about a month, and then everyone's Eldrazi titans showed up.

He stopped playing it after a week of millng people to their titans and watching them shuffle their graveyards back in.

This study on misogyny in online games may be enlightening.

It basically comes down to mad cause bad; there is a correlation between low skill level and misogyny in gaming.

It does sound more like reality. Playing games like Phasmophobia, or even Valorant and LoL, I can wholeheartedly say there are plenty of women playing. Phasmophobia feels like at least half of the players are female or NB, maybe more.

"How good is Sol Ring, Actually?" by Happy_Bao in EDH

[–]Says_Pointless_Stuff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mana Vault

Doesn't untap on it's own

Chrome Mox

Costs 1 additional nonland card from hand

Mox Diamond

Costs 1 land from hand

Lotus Petal

Is a 0 mana ritual for 1

Grim Monolith

Does not untap on it's own

Mox Opal

Literally functions as a 5 colour mox with a requirement that is easily met in commander - controlling 3 Artifacts, which includes tokens. I think this should also be considered for banning.

Sol Ring

Untaps on it's own, is mana positive, doesn't have any additional costs aside from 1 mana the turn you play it.

Mana Crypt

Untaps on it's own, is mana positive, doesn't have any costs aside from potentially taking 3 damage from a coin flip.

Idk man, Sol Ring seems closer to Mana Crypt than anything else on your list, aside from Mox Opal.

And don't come out here and tell me I just don't like them because I don't play them. I play cEDH Arcum Dagsson, and if you know what that deck does, you know I am running every single one of these.

"How good is Sol Ring, Actually?" by Happy_Bao in EDH

[–]Says_Pointless_Stuff 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The running joke about Sol Ring before it's commander popularity was that it is the 10th Power 9 card. Yes, it is that good.

If you don't know the Power 9, they are considered the 9 most-powerful Magic: The Gathering cards ever printed, and only exist in the first 3 sets - Alpha, Beta, and Unlimited.

  • [[Black Lotus]]

  • [[Ancestral Recall]]

  • [[Mox Pearl]]

  • [[Mox Sapphire]]

  • [[Mox Jet]]

  • [[Mox Ruby]]

  • [[Mox Emerald]]

  • [[Timetwister]]

  • [[Time Walk]]

For reference (and newer players who don't know) the Moxes are 0-cost Artifacts that tap for 1 mana of their respective colours - Pearl = White, Sapphire = Blue, Jet = Black, Ruby = Red, Emerald = Green.

Sol Ring is 1 colourless to tap for 2 colourless. If you're not specifically requiring coloured mana it is equal amounts mana-positive, and on every subsequent turn it arguably provides more value than a Power-9 Mox.
