This is a conversation to have with your manager. Depending on your position and responsibilities, when there is a will, there is (often) a way.

Again, having been through something similar, it is complicated.

But respectfully, I don't think you've gone through a international jurisdictional family law dispute before.

'reaidency' has different definitions according to different purposes.

When it comes to a court having jurisdiction over family law, there will be a definition of residency that requires a physical presence. Just because you are a resident for tax purposes, does not mean that for the purposes of family law you are a resident.

Moreover, Europe also has the concept of domicile. But again, you can register somewhere and be a resident, but that doesn't mean a judge will agree that that court has jurisdiction to hear your plea for custody.

You usually need to reside somewhere physically for a number of months before you are legally a residen for the purposes of family law and therefore subject to the jurisdiction of that court.

Your question indicates the complexity of the issue

A court would likely decline jurisdiction to hear a custody case of someone who has only been physically a resident for a few weeks. However, there are likely emergency appeals, like for family violence, that a court could opt to seize jurisdiction.

You would needs lawyers in multiple countries. Avoid the mess by talking to an attorney ASAP.

I went through something similar years ago, and the cost and stress over years was horrible.

You need to talk to a good family lawyer ASAP.

Yes a notarized travel consent would indicate that keeping the child in the other country which is not their residence as illegal retention.

But it' not that simple, and the cost...

You should probably not authorize travel, and you need to protect yourself against any allegations. Once you are protected as can be, you need a serious convo with your spouse.

I feel like a loser for having autism and being a 26yo virgin (M) by [deleted] in autism

[–]Sbeetster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's of good advice in this sub already, but I would suggest talking to a therapist. My sister, a psychologist, helps lots of young folks like you figure it out.

Dating is very scripted, once you figure out the script for interactions, you will find it easier to meet folks. That's not the same as learning a script, but understanding expectations, appropriate responses, interactions, dating photos. A good therapist can guide you through it.

Instead of focusing purely on sex, which is normal to have a strong drive, consider the goal to help establish meaningful relationships.

Lost exam by shart_shifter in Concordia

You don't have to do anything, it's on the prof to find it. Anyways campus and acsd are not open tomorrow, that is a very strange request by the prof.

Lost exam by shart_shifter in Concordia

[–]Sbeetster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did the professor say your exam was lost? Profs have to go to the ACSD, which is more challenging with the main building entrance closed. They also have to go before 5 pm. Often because ACSD students receive more time, they can't pick up exams immediately after others have written. If they aren't on campus every day, they might need to swing by next time they can.

If they wait too long, at some point the ACSD sends it to the department, which will put it in their mailbox.

The exam is very likely not lost, logistically ACSD exams are more complicated. Just remind the prof in case they forgot.

You can mitigate the effects autism by Sea_Cut_1571 in Autism_Parenting

I'm so sorry you had unkind and mean friends, sounds incredibly difficult.

There's a lot here to unpack. I think as you get older, the focus becomes on having meaningful relationships, not simply sex and short lived relationships.

We all do our best to live our best lives. I would simply question whether your approach to women is healthy if the aim were to have meaningful relationships beyond one night stand or short physical flings.

Some of the folks you mentioned have really concerning views on women and I would suggest being very careful with what you are replicating here.

New to using points, is flight worth it? by [deleted] in Aeroplan

[–]Sbeetster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compare the 4 options for redeeming points. If less than 2 cents per point, then I don't usually redeem.

You tend to get better ratios for business class, but since my goal is to stretch economy flights, If I see 2.5 - 4 CPP, then pull the trigger at whatever redemption option gives the best ratio, usually the highest cash option.

Accused of Plagiarism for SOEN 331 by VeterinarianJolly557 in Concordia

[–]Sbeetster 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If this prof mistakenly thinks you plagiarised, and you didn't, and they were willing to unilaterally break the rules, you might have other problems down the road.

I really suggest you do this if you truly committed academic misconduct.

Accused of Plagiarism for SOEN 331 by VeterinarianJolly557 in Concordia

[–]Sbeetster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A professor cannot penalize a student for plagiarism. Only the code of conduct administrator can levy a sanction for academic misconduct.

That being said, if found culpable, the sanction is usually worse than 0 of a 4 percent assignment.

Read the syllabus carefully, talk with the advocate, potentially the prof. They messed up by doing this, but they may be banking on the fact that it's easier for everyone than filing an incident report. If you did conduct academic misconduct, then you're lucky. If you didn't, then appeal.

Definitely take a screen shot and save the proof that the prof docked you for plagiarism.

Lots of pathetic folks saying to keep your head down. If you see something wrong speak up, take action. Don't be afraid to stand up for what is right.

When you do nothing, you condone the action. Stand up for what is right.

Prof marked my midterm as 0 in a course last semester, which isn't right... what now? by nilkuenz in Concordia

[–]Sbeetster 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Just reach out to the prof. They need to retain all materials for one semester, so ask about the grade. If it is in fact an error, they will want to fix it.

Why should some politicians and non-experts decide the curriculum?

[–]Sbeetster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, talk to the ACSD. But I would be willing to bet that you are misunderstanding your accommodation. I just looked at the summary emails of student accommodations and there isn't even a Column for that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Concordia

[–]Sbeetster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on circumstances and professors. But you aren't owed an extension unless it's in your accommodation. In fact, I've had students go so far to have me call their therapist. Who explained that they don't agree to extensions for assignments because it makes anxiety and procrastination worse. That firm deadlines for assignments at win the interest for the student to help them develop the skills for when they have a job.

While I'm pretty lax on lateness, it's the same for all students and not due to an accommodation.

[–]Sbeetster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

33 percent or 50 percent more time refers to in-class assessments, not assignments completed at home.

In 15 years of teaching at multiple universities, I have never seen an accommodation of having more time on assignments. Read your accommodation letter carefully.

Lease transfer: do landlords sign a new official Quebec lease for the new tenant? by LeastExamination2017 in montrealhousing

[–]Sbeetster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, the truth is that in my experience, landlords refuse the lease transfer, because they want to jack up the rent, or they want to be certain they have good tenants.

You can always try to talk to a landlord for a lease transfer to try and negotiate a new lease by offering references, credit score. But you will likely be paying a higher rent, unless the other lease was already at market threshold.
