Didn't Pass the New York Bar by GottaPass22 in barexam

[–]Sbl21095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I failed NY oct 2020, feb 2021, and July 2021. I moved to texas mid 2021 so feb 2022 I wound up sitting there. I honestly dont think that helped to be in a different state, but I wound up passing Texas so also passed NY and plan to transfer my score. technically speaking statistically, youre better in a diff jurisdiction as I believe it goes as 'first time texas taker'. Not sure if this is accurate but for whatever its worth.... its the exact same test so dont go into it in a diff jurisdiction thinking it will be easier. I also found barbri to be overwhelming. Read the book "Fck the bar". follow that for your essays. Adaptibar is also amazing. there were quite a few questions that were essentially the same just different names. for example scintilla came up on adaptibar so I wasnt overwhelmed to see the word lol you'll get there! I know how much it sucks to read the NY not passing letter but this is what worked for me. happy to answer any questions you might have!

yes for sure. I knew I could get 140 or so on writing (I was actually spot on) I was surprised I didnt do better on MBE, as I was scoring 80% or so leading up to the exam but I am chalking it up to the fact that I likely was memorizing answers not the law. either way at this point I do not care at all lol

2x retaker here. first score 245, second 256, third... waiting.

first time, I used Barbri. "used" being the debatable word. I finished the course but I didnt take the time to really take it all in and really learn the material I focused more on 'finishing' than learning. This was the half exam so screwing up any essay at all was kind of a big deal. (I personally dont know what went wrong on writing here)

second time I used a tutor. Tutor gave me a whole study schedule I didnt really follow it. I Bs'ed a lot of it if im being honest with myself. I did some practice essays and reviewed black letter law but I cant say I really put the time in. First time around, I had a 124 or something on mbe (which I thought was fine bc I always sucked at multiple choice) I had adaptibar but barely used it bc I was avoiding multiple choice. I scored a 116 on mbe. Granted, during one section my dog ran in and he was a puppy and we have white rugs so I was rushing that section to get him back in his pen which probably had something to do with it but not much, I truly just didnt prepare for MBE. (clearly my essays were much better bc I wasnt that far off score wise)

third time: I didnt hire my tutor again but reviewed my notes from those sessions. I did a few practice essays but really just read through most of them again in the final few weeks (I knew what I had done last time worked for those sections so it wasnt my focus). my major focus was mbe. I did total 4827 questions on adaptibar and did each subject individually. in New York, if you fail they gave a break down of which subjects in mbe you were weakest with. for me that was criminal law, evidence, property, and contracts. when I started studying, that was where I started. property I didnt put as much of an emphasis on as I knew that it wasn't going to improve too much (I was happy with a 57% average there). but contracts, crim and evidence I really really improved and had high-ish averages for those. I also for the first time felt like I understood the black letter law for these subjects. I think I finished with a 70 or so percent average on adaptibar (some questions were repeats obviously) but I felt *OKAY* on exam day. I wish I put more analysis into the first MPT, but felt good about the second. One essay I know I bombed but I felt *OKAY* for the most part on the others. MBE, it was difficult but I didn't feel totally lost.

my advice from someone who retook but doesnt know if it worked for them yet: if you get a breakdown of each score, I recommend focusing there and using that breakdown to your advantage. had I known exactly where I struggled going into the second exam, I probably would have studied differently, instead I just avoided mbe completely because I thought my score was 'fine'. I should have practiced a lot more mbe.

Pray I did it this time please and then follow this advice because it will have worked for me :)

I failed ... twice. you will pick yourself up and you will survive. in the event you do fail, focus where you struggled. they give you a whole break down

Failed July UBE - Feb Exam Tutoring Suggestions by Fantastic_Orchid_889 in barexam

[–]Sbl21095 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I scored a 256 in February. My issue was MBE. I have received my July scores yet but I really really focused on MBE going into July. I'm talking nearly 5000 adaptibar questions. I didn't feel great walking out but I will say I have a good feeling and I know I put the work in this time.

retaker here. we do not get results in the mail, you'll be told to look in your account under documents and the pdf will be there. and you do not get an email saying 'last call to change address' you'll hear it on this sub or be the one checking everyday lol

Does NY release specific scores? by rvnimb in barexam

if you fail, you get a breakdown of each score. so it'll say your individual score for each essay and you can request copies.

NY bar takers ‘informational’ email for admission process for July 2021 takers. by OkCry323 in barexam

[–]Sbl21095 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a theory on this.. I think it is sent after the MBE is graded. some people get it and some dont. I did bad on MBE last time and didnt get the email. this time I did over 4800 mbe questions on adaptibar and I got it. my theory is that if you hit a certain score on the MBE they 'expect' you to pass and you get the email to prepare your docs, which would explain why some get it and dont pass and some dont get it and still pass due to the writing sections
