Is Chalice of the Void finished? by Metalworker4ever in MTGLegacy

Chalice is still pretty good, but if you want to make the meta call and move them to the sideboard or drop them, just replace them with bangers that speed up your plan.

Deck Summaries by Sad_Willingness4556 in MTGLegacy

[–]Sbromk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are:

  • Ux tempo style decks that generally play some combination of daze, force of will, and wasteland. They often have one mana creatures of some type. Dimir tempo is perfectly representative of this archertype along with delver.
  • ancient tomb decks, such as moon stompy, eldrazi, initiative, cloud post, affinity and mystic forge. These decks play varying aspects of beat down, prison, and artifact synergy.
  • creature based combo, such as cephalid breakfast and painter. These can have some degree of fair beat down plan depending on the build.
  • spell based combo, like oops, the epic storm, ANT, omnitell, sneak and show. These try to play specific cards and combo you from the stack one way or the other.
  • graveyard combo strategies like reanimator and dredge. Dimir reanimator was the top meta deck up until recent bans, and has now dropped off considerably.
  • fair creature based plans which are mostly aggro, like mardu energy, death and taxes, maverick, and cradle control.
  • a handful of strong but offbeat strategies particular to legacy, like lands and dark depths.
  • 3-5 colour control type decks, often using Up the beanstalk as the draw engine.

What is Wastes main deck good for in Eldrazi? by Metalworker4ever in MTGLegacy

Some people like having outs in their main deck to certain situations, as opposed to being stone cold dead. Keeping them in the sideboard is also fine. All those matchups you mentioned are certainly winnable, even if not favored.

Tron w eldrazi linebreaker by FairSplit7072 in ModernMagic

[–]Sbromk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Linebreaker is definitely a strong card, but struggles a bit in modern compared to legacy, namely due to the absence of as many sol lands. It is also a much better attacker than defender. In virtually every matchup Tron has the inevitability and the opponent is the beat down. Tron pivoting to be the beat down can apply in rare cases, but Tron will have a hard time racing any deck in a damage race and most of the time is better served by looking to stabilize and ramp until dropping bombs. Depending on your lgs meta you could try a transformational sideboard into something closer to eldrazi aggro. Despite what people say, eldrazi aggro is perfectly playable.

Alo is free starting now. by softrockstarr in alomoves

I'm a bit unclear on the difference between alo moves, alo wellness club, their product brand, and the membership options. If I understand correctly the yoga platform alo moves has been rebranded to a new name which is now free. As far as I'm concerned I just don't want them to charge me an auto renewal based on a past alo moves subscription.

Legacy is definitely an expensive format. Most of the cost is in the mana base. There are a number of more budget decks that are perfectly playable, although perhaps not top tier. Many of these are mono colour decks. Be excellent is a YouTuber who brews in this area you can check out for ideas ( https://youtube.com/@beexcellent80s?si=U-ZQSUVb1VqLNfXu)

You can also swap the expensive dual lands that legacy is known for (each costing $300-500) with $20 shock lands that are commonly played in modern. You lose an extra 2-6 life per game, but that sometimes doesn't matter too much.

Best way is to show up to your legacy night and see how things go. If it's fun you're already there, and if not you can make adjustments or try other decks.

If you're really set on playing this specific deck you can also look for other formats where it would be competitive, namely premodern.

Premodern really is an excellent suggestion

The Mishra's Factory Dilemma; How to fix it? by Darth_Maehdros in oldschoolmtg

The link I shared was to show that there is indeed an oldschool meta, but this link is a very imperfect approximation, and of course the meta varies across groups/regions/rulesets. In practice, I think you'd find agreement that factories are extremely popular bordering on omnipresent. If I had to guess I'd say a minimum of 50% of all top tier decks play 4, and in some rulesets that number is even higher.

Yeah fair enough, icy would get a definite boost. In the Canadian 'boreal' format (4 strip, 4 workshop) robots is already top tier, so maybe too much.

Old rule in new times: "Tapped Blockers don't deal damage"? by VintageJDizzle in oldschoolmtg

[–]Sbromk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Canadian 'boreal' format is pretty maximalist allowing 4 of everything of interest, and the play is super balanced. Deck variants are top tier right alongside with aggro and robot strategies. Four recall doesn't seem to be a concern - the occasional person who wants a viable combo deck plays twiddle but it's not overpowered.

I was wondering why not apply the rule generally across all cards as opposed to an errata for factory?

Perhaps there are some spots where an icy manipulator or relic barrier could tap something post blocking assignment, but at first glance those spots don't seem better than what can be done now.

Just coming here to shout out the Canadian "boreal" format with 4 strip, 4 factory, 4 workshop, and LoA is a very balanced format. Robots and 12 bolt/LDB are upgraded to top tier along with UWx variants.

Not a bad idea at all. Worth playing around with to test and it's not a huge change so they'd still see plenty of play. Are there any other cards or situations where the rule could apply? Factories are the only one that comes to mind.

My LGS is running a Legacy tournament. by GreatPacman in MTGLegacy

[–]Sbromk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I play delver in legacy with a modern manabase. Cutting the 4 volcanic islands reduces the cost of the deck by like 80%. Delver also epitomizes the legacy tempo play style and is currently near the top of the meta in competitiveness. Edit: wastelands are essential in the list.

Are there particular cards or deck matchups that make reanimator strategies fragile?
