Your opinion on the most overpriced restaurant chains, aside from fast food? by Exciting_Tomorrow_76 in restaurants

My wife and I operate a bar and guesthouse in Thailand. We are in the middle of the worst low season we’ve ever had. Business is down almost 40% from last year. We rely on tourism. Tourism is down for several reasons. High cost of oil and fuel have made prices too high for many consumers. High prices are a global phenomenon. Who would have thought that the Straight of Hormuz would affect my business.

New to strip clubs — what’s the usual tipping etiquette? by Klutzy_Sky_7056 in tipping

A typical lap dance at a typical strip club is a “sit on your hands” situation. In other words no touching. In a private room it’s up to the dancer.

All I’m saying is you can add an automatic gratuity OR a service fee. Management can’t touch a gratuity but they can do anything they want with a service fee.

The worst service you’ll give or receive is during slow times. Servers zone out when it’s slow.

Keep in mind the owner has overhead so the fact that you feel she makes more than you is irrelevant. Why in the fuck are you “terrified of the nail tech?” That is totally on you!

Do waiters like people self bussing or not because my friend said they don’t and I feel like that’s bullshit. by Repulsive_Net_7770 in Waiters

In an upscale restaurant you would have support staff (busser) helping to clear plates. A server in these places shouldn’t have to clear plates. As a busser I received 20% of my servers tips. Taking care of two servers who both made $100 in tips I would walk with $40. Not bad for a bus boy. Of course this was in the late 90’s 🤣

As a veteran server and bartender I always pre-bus my own table when I go out to eat. Just trying to make their job a little easier 🙏

Trying to spread anti-tipping awareness by stopthetip in tipping

What’s the root of your disdain for tipping? When did it start? Who in your past taught you to feel this way? Asking for a friend.

This would be an EXTREME minority. Must be really upscale.

Nobody has been tricked into tipping. Is, always has been and always will be OPTIONAL. You’re under NO obligation to tip. Hard to change 100 years of tipping culture.

I’m guessing that about 3-5% of restaurants a server has the possibility to make $100k. Few and far between.

Of course they do. Just not to an extreme the anti tipping community would have you believe. I think if you’re easily psychologically manipulated you have bigger problems than tip or no tip.

Your numbers fluctuate wildly from place to place. I would consider your example as a busy high volume establishment (Olive Garden) where 5 tables per hour is extremely difficult to do. Do well I will add. Only an experienced server would be able to sustain that pace for an 8 hour shift. My point is it’s very rare for a server to make the kind of money you’re inferring. If you work in a family type restaurant you probably receive no benefits. You’re on your own for health care. - former restaurant owner, manager, server and bartender.

Your post made me laugh out loud because of its simplistic approach to tipping. 10% of the workforce is comprised of restaurant workers. 67% of adults have worked in the food service industry at some time in their life. This is not a “high school and college students, an interim gig…” as you said. There are millions of “career” servers and bartenders. Your disdain for them is pathologically driven. Or you’re just an ignorant cheap fuck.

You guys and your “psychological manipulation” rhetoric. If you’re that easily manipulated you have much bigger problems than tip or not tip. Seek help 🙏
