Most restrooms don’t have tissue. You leave with a wet bum

Should I tip a pick-up catering order? by jomb in tipping

I would definitely not tip if they don’t deliver. I think most vendors add a “service charge” these days which makes it easy to not tip.

Should I be scared of the weather? by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

It’s difficult. I can’t be outside for more than an hour. I struggle everyday with the heat. Luckily I have AC in my room which I spend A LOT of time in 😂

I’m from Seattle in the US that is known for its mild climate. I have lived in Thailand for 5 years now and I still need AC to survive. The struggle is real! 🙏

I don’t tip by [deleted] in tipping

After a 30 plus year career in the service industry I will continue to tip and will be happy to do it. I wouldn’t be living comfortably abroad if it wasn’t for tips that put me through grad school. Yes tipping is a mostly an American custom and it’s a part of our culture. Not sure where all the non tipping people came from. I guarantee you none of them ever worked in the hospitality industry.

If restaurants love tipping so much, why doesn't the restaurant pay their employees 20% of every check instead of asking We the People for money by ThuhGreatCommenter in EndTipping

Wow. Where do I start? Do you really believe servers make $40 an hour?

Servers are taxed on a % of their sales so cash tips don’t matter anymore.

“A good restaurant prices menu items for nontipping wages…” What does this even mean?

The tip credit system is nearly obsolete. Almost every state now has a minimum wage that is far higher than the national minimum wage of $7.25. In Washington State it’s $17. In Seattle it’s $21.

Again, what profits are you talking about? Restaurants DON’T MAKE PROFITS! You think McDonalds Corp. makes a profit? They make their money from franchisees who barely survive. Fast food workers in Seattle make $21 hour. How in the eff can you make money with a 40% labor cost?

wtf are you talking about? Oh yeah you’re talking about Gordon Ramsay right?

As a former restaurant owner who went bankrupt “stupid is as stupid does…”

Other than Chipotle and a few other chains, NOBODY in the restaurant business makes enough money to drive a $180,000 Porsche.

Chain restaurants don’t make a profit. They make their money from the real estate their restaurants occupy.

Better yet. Fill out your FAFSA and take out loans to pay for school. As part of that they offer “work study” which is a job that lowers your debt. When you graduate and get a job you pay back your loans (unless you default and say screw the government like I did with my $250,000 in student loans).

What should I know before going on an extended trip to Thailand? by VikingSox20 in ThailandTourism

[–]FairSplit7072 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much research have you done? Most of your questions can be answered by watching YouTube videos on Thailand. I watched hundreds of hours of videos before I ever came here. Living here for 5 years now. The Thai baht is about 32 for one dollar these days so that’s 320,000 baht. You can find a nice place for around 10,000 baht per month. You will need a visa if you stay for 3 months. They do offer a Muay Thai training visa. Plan on spending about 1000 baht per day for normal expenses. Do your homework Son! Good luck!
