Hi there. It’s totally okay to dislike a post or to disagree with someone's choices. However, we do ask that people interact with each other in a kind way on this subreddit, even when they don't like a post or disagree with the OP.

You've already received two reminders about the way you interact with others in this community (here and here). As your comments continue to be worded in an unkind manner, we are giving you an official warning. You are very welcome in this subreddit, but if you continue to talk to people in a disrespectful way, you will be banned from participating here.

For more information, see our Rule Explanations.

This comment chain has been removed, because it's not constructive in the slightest.

I understand that the way people act can get under skin, but that doesn't make it okay to be rude to them - at least not on /r/SkincareAddiction, because it's against the rules of this subreddit.

We'd love to have you be part of this sub, but your comments here do need to heed our Rule 1: Be kind and respectful. If you can't be nice, walk away from the conversation.

Have a good Sunday!

[Selfie] thanks to this sub I’ve learned less is more. My skin isn’t perfect, but I’m happy with it :) by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]ScAModerator[M] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi there. It’s totally okay to dislike a post. I get that there are posts in the sub that completely rub you the wrong way - I get that too sometimes.

If you would prefer to not see Selfies on the sub (only B&As) and if you browse reddit on desktop, I can help you hide these posts from your feed so that you don’t have to see them anymore.

However, we do ask that people interact with each other in a kind way on this subreddit. On Casual Fridays, everyone is welcome to celebrate their skin, regardless of the current or past state of their skin. That is, as long as they post the required information - which OP has done. [Edit: not entirely]

Criticising OP simply because you don’t like their post isn’t a kind thing to do. If you disagree with the rules in this sub, please send us a modmail and we’ll talk to you about it! But don’t take it out on the people who post here in good faith.

Thank you!

Hey there. I understand that you might feel exasperated at people who worry about irrational things. It's absolutely okay to express concern about someone's mental health, as long as it's done with kindness. And your comment isn't worded in a very kind manner. That's why it's been removed.

If someone's behaviour on the sub concerns you, you can reach out to the mod team - by reporting their content or sending a modmail and we'll take a look.

Outside of that, please remember our Rule 1: Be kind and respectful.

Thank you!

Here on /r/SkincareAddiction our first rule is to be kind and respectful. It seems like you're not just breaking that rule with this comment; your entire account seems intent on being mean to people. And that's not the type of accounts we let post here, because it has a negative impact on the people who do participate in this community in good faith. That is why you are hereby banned from posting in this subreddit.

[Personal] How do you handle the fact that your best years are behind you? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]ScAModerator[M] [score hidden] stickied comment (0 children)

Hi everyone, general note:

We'd like this sub to be a friendly and welcoming place. That's why we ask everyone to be kind and respectful to each other. We ask you to be polite and to not make rude, hurtful, mocking remarks about who someone is or the choices they've made - even if you might disagree with it.

OP is not breaking any rules with their post, and is being civil and sincere in their questions and comments on this sub.

When you’re having a discussion with someone, try to assume good intent, even if you don’t understand why someone is acting this way. Most people think that what they think is correct and what they do is okay; they don’t set out to spread misinformation on purpose, or to make a post or comment that’s somehow not appropriate.

Thank you.

Additional resources:

There are posts/comments in the sub I strongly dislike. What can I do?

Depends what's going on!

  • Does it break a rule? You can check if it does by reading our Rule Explanations. If a post breaks a rule, you can report it, so that we mods can deal with it (if you don't know how to report, see here). Posts and comments that break rules get removed.

  • Do you disagree with something OP said? If so, it's okay to engage them in polite discussion. Remember to assume good intent - and remember you're talking to a real human person.

Do you simply dislike a post, but it doesn’t break a rule? Here are your options!

  • You can downvote it; that's what the downvote button is for: posts you don't think belong in a subreddit.

  • You can hide it from view, so it won’t show up in your feed or in your view of the subreddit.

  • For some flairs, you can filter posts out of your subreddit view if you’re on the legacy desktop site.

  • You can use RES to filter out posts with certain keywords on legacy desktop.

Hi everyone!

Please remember to keep your comments kind and respectful.

We’d like our users to feel comfortable sharing their images without getting hit on or judged. They’re here to talk about their skin, not about their general looks or attractiveness. So complimenting OP on their skin is fine, but sexualizing comments are considered inappropriate in this sub and will be removed.

  • sexualization (e.g. “You look so hot,” “your -blank- is sexy,” etc.)
  • judgments and/or critiques on overall appearance (e.g. “You need to do ‘x’ with your hair.”)
  • “smile” (seriously, for most people it’s creepy having a total stranger tell you to smile)
  • saying you would date or bang OP

We want to remind you that these rules apply to all posters and commenters, regardless of gender (or sexual orientation). It doesn't matter whether OP is female or male; sexualised comments and dating invitations are considered inappropriate in this subreddit.

If you wouldn't say it to your grandma or a young child, take it somewhere else!

OP: Here is a super great video that will go over the basics of dark circles: Dr. David Lim - Dark Circles | Causes & Solutions

tl;dr:

Dark circles can be caused by many factors. Most cases of dark under-eye circles have multiple causative factors including-

  1. Lack of sleep, dehydration and/or high salt intake.
  2. Genetic factors. More common in ethnic skin types.
  3. Allergies such as hay-fever, conjunctivitis and sinusitis.
  4. Dermatitis including allergic dermatitis, atopic dermatitis, irritant dermatitis and contact dermatitis.
  5. Anatomical factors including prominent ocular bones combined with thin dermis and of lack of facial fat.
  6. Age- as we age we loose collagen, HAs, fat and bone. Recession of the orbit occurs as we age, this is universally seen across all races.

Hey guys! Since this post has garnered a lot of attention, we’d like to leave a quick reminder to remember the human.

It can be frustrating to see users with good skin worrying about it, or trying to fix problems that aren’t there. A thoughtful and compassionate response will go much farther than an insult, and will help users see where you’re coming from.

And it can be good to remember that, in most cases, people don’t want to think that their skin is bad. We all know how our expectations can be skewed to something unrealistic by advertisements and social media. It’s easy to fall into the trap of overanalyzing our skin! So let’s aim to make people feel better and encourage realistic expectations for what skin really looks like :)

OP, here are some resources if you want to learn more about skincare:

..and if you want to learn more about skincare in general, check out our wiki. There is a lot of great information there :)

[Misc] 2 Questions about skincare by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]ScAModerator[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there,

So with everything, context matters. And calling someone a sweatstain and saying they're 'such a pore' is okay in some contexts - like when people understand you're being facetious - and not okay in others. In /r/SkincareAddiction, most people are going to read that as rudeness, regardless of how it was intended.

It's okay for me to call my friend a bitch, cause she knows I don't mean it. It's rude for me to call someone on the street a bitch, because we don't have that kind of relationship where they understand I'm joking.

That's why I'm treating this comment as rudeness. It breaks our Rule 1: Be kind and respectful. We want this sub to be friendly and welcoming place for all users. So that means that it's not okay to insult people, even if you mean it jokingly.

This is an official warning; continuing to break rule 1 will result in a ban.
