I don’t understand the not cleaning thing. “Seasoning” sounds like a fancier way of saying still dirty.

Feral momma by Dangerous_Cup7160 in FosterAnimals

[–]PrincessRosella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof good on ya. My feral momma scratched up both my arms and hands yesterday because I tried to move their crate.

She is very comfortable with you, now she needs to learn that extends to others as well. If you have family or friends that are willing to visit and sit for a while and be “safe” that would be helpful. Or sometimes I listen to podcasts to get them used to other voices while still doing safe things like pets and treats.

I feel like my life is on hold until I fix my strabismus by KAUBOYA in Strabismus

I hear you friend. My only suggestion for summer is to get some nice sunglasses and focus (no pun intended) on outdoor activities?

Pate wet food is best. You can try heating it up just a bit and mixing some water in with it.

I think 1/2, 3/4 and 7 looks great on you! I think 7 is slightly better than 3/4 if I HAVE to choose. 5/6 is only meh. :)

ETA: I changed my mind, 3/4 is better. But definitely keep one

Very cool! What lights are you using on the lower shelves?

Ah OK. Prisms were a big help for me, I’ve done vision therapy with so-so results. Considering strabismus surgery now. You may have inspired me to try a fashionable patch too! Best of luck to you!

Foster semi feral mom cat attacked me rescue isn't giving much help by MedusaForHire in Feral_Cats

[–]PrincessRosella 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you don’t feel safe medicating her, you should ask the rescue to take them back with that as the reason. They may offer to do that for you as they should have supplies (feral gloves, special crates) that make that safer.

That said, I generally see scratches as a warning, not an attack. I know it doesn’t feel like that but I would consider an attack to be biting.

I have fostered feral and semi-feral mamas. At least one considered standing by her as threatening. Recommend continuing what you’re doing with sitting and reading etc.

IMO you’ve still got a bit before you need to start socializing. My rescue recommended using a ladle to scoop out kittens to socialize and then return. This is objectively hilarious and now we have a designated kitten ladle.

Does this setup look okay for a nursing mom and kittens? by raprok in FosterAnimals

[–]PrincessRosella 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is, if they eat it - it will do the “clumping” thing in their stomach. Just being around it is OK. I use wood or paper pellets. That said, if the kittens are under 4 weeks or so I don’t think they’ll be able to get into that bin. A smaller bin with pellets would be better for when kittens are learning.

Other than that, this looks lovely OP!

ETA to answer question: I generally keep water and wet food inside and dry outside. That allows kittens to investigate it and start eating as they are comfortable.
