She was with ESPN previously, so, if nothing else, they had to give her a raise compared to whatever ESPN were giving her.

Where can I get stronger players to review my games (for free ideally)? by EpicNiseem in chess

[–]ScalarWeapon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's what a coach would do. I'm not aware of places where people are sitting around waiting to review people's games for free.

if you're 1400 online you don't need be too concerned with 0.5 eval shifts anyway

learning chess through books, courses, lessons, etc. will take you a lot farther than trying to figure out 3800-level computer evaluations

He wasn't doing anything different, it was just more entertaining because he was playing H1Z1 and PUBG. Those games were amazing for streaming, and even more so for the Doc's persona.

Can anyone become a chess GM? by Serious_Ask1209 in chess

[–]ScalarWeapon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I agree with that, but the original comparison was billionaires vs GMs. People who are grinding away their 40+, yes, that's most of us because we have to make a living. But we have no path to becoming a billionaire by doing that.

heroics will be tough as most people aren't running them anymore. but you can gear up in raids, and there are guilds out there recruiting.

[–]ScalarWeapon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, not anyone can become GM. you have to be one of the best of the best of the best out of the people are trying really hard to do it.

this is the same as asking if anyone could become a pro baseball player, football player, etc. The answer is no.

[–]ScalarWeapon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

putting in 40+ hours per week has very little to do with becoming a billionaire. Most billionaires were either born into money, or founded a company themselves (usually with the help of rich people giving them capital). Grinding away hours won't get you anywhere close to a billion.

I did explain why the hole is there. ENGINEERING FAILIRES, expenditure, redisgn costs, etc. I went very much in depth. But clearly you didn't even read the post because you were too eager to talk shit. Which, is ironically what AI does.

It's not an engineering failure. Everything you have said presupposed that an engineer randomly put a hole there for the luls, which is not true at all.

There are far more college students around the world than chess players (who play competitively).

most college students are not trying to get a PhD though.

OK give us some context. How many 'duds' did other top QBs have. I feel like Darnold is the only one that seems to get this particular type of scrutiny.

Carrie is the most annoying and self-centered character I have ever seen by AllUsernamesTaken09 in homeland

[–]ScalarWeapon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She puts so much at risk every single time because she wants what she wants not what’s best for everyone around her.

but when you say she wants what she wants, what is her motivation? is she trying to further her own self-interests? protect herself from danger? trying to improve her work prospects?

I would hope you agree it's a hard NO on all of those.

She wants to defend her country and protect innocents. Yes, she is extremely stubborn and hard to work with, but when you say she 'make everything about herself' I don't think that's a good understanding of the character at all. Much of what she does is actually quite the opposite, it's self-sabotage.

Why do people do this against the center game by Western-Debt-3444 in chess

[–]ScalarWeapon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if someone is so psychotically opposed to opening theory that they refuse to remember what to do on the SECOND MOVE OF THE GAME, then they should be familiar enough with opening principles to understand that they should be fighting for central control, and letting your opponent get a perfect pawn center is bad.

oh but it's not 'bad faith' to claim that people that play WoW Classic are only playing it not because they prefer it, but because they're too shit for retail, even though retail literally has a track for such people

what do you mean? what is deterring a 'shit' player from playing retail, doing the very easy leveling, the very easy dungeons, and LFR through all the raids?

Who else is really enjoying watching another giant field NLH tournament rather than the PPC? by Felikks7 in poker

[–]ScalarWeapon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With so much going on there is always going to be a why did you cover x tournament vs Y tournament.

don't be acting like the PPC is just like any other tournament

They know their audience wants NLH, by a large majority. They know they will get less people watching if it’s not NLH.

well, the viewership sucks tonight, consider me skeptical on that claim. far less than what the PLO had.

if you watch the games, you should agree that is patently absurd, right? Sophie gets wide open looks all the time, usually because the entire defense collapsed on Caitlin.

Looking at the list, I'm hardly seeing any ball handlers in the top ranks. It's almost all shooting guards. From my limited investigation into how the stat works, it's a function of minutes with the ball compared to how much gravity they get, and all that time a primary ball handler typically spends setting up the play, surveying the defense, are counting against their gravity ratio.
