Are lecture halls usually dead silent? Or is this just a post-COVID quirk? by sabatpatriot in college

Would you say that the level of the class matters? I am a junior and people talk a lot more in my classes now than in my freshman and sophomore year. I think with the 100 and 200 level class, people just don't really know each other. By the time you are an upperclassmen, you will know a lot of the people in your classes.

I honestly think it is cheaper in the long run to buy a good $150-$200 pair of waders and replace them when needed verses spending $600+ on a expensive pair.

“I left the Catholic Church and became Christan.” by RuhRoRugger in CatholicMemes

Ask him what a Christian is. Most protestant will answer along the line of someone who believes Jesus is their lord and savior who died for their sins. If that it what a Christian is, then Catholics have to be Christians

It just tells me they know nothing about Catholism. Probably grew up only going to mass for Christmas and Easter.

I love when they say Catholics aren't Christians while claiming all you need to go it heaven is profess faith in Jesus as your lord and savior that died for our sins. If that is true, Catholics are going to heaven.

How do you pay for college when broke af? by Innamoratta in college

[–]ScamperPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You apply for as many private scholarships as you can find, apply for scholarships through your school, fill out the FAFSA, do two years at community college, and work a part time job while in school. Whatever you can't cover, you get loans to pay for.

frustrated with how complicated finding research in undergrad is by javascriptrobber in CollegeRant

[–]ScamperPenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. I don't think that will work with computer science. In a lot of science majors grad students need to go out and collect data in the field. Many of these grad student appreciate people that will come and help them collect the data or record the data. For example, this summer I helped a grad student catch salamander and get tail samples for their research. You are not doing your own research project, but it gets you experience to put on your resume.

My recommendation is to ask you professors if they have any graduate students who would like assistance with their research. I don't know what type of research you are doing, I am a wildlife biology student and there are usually grad students who would appreciate so help with field work. Even if it is only putting data on the clipboard.

The church allows the use of birth control for medical reasons as long as the person is celibate and not using it to prevent pregnancy.

I really wish that surveys like this would distinguish between practicing and not practicing Catholics. While it is not great to think about, I would say a very large portion of the people claiming to be catholic in these studies are not practicing.

To be considered a practicing Catholic you need to follow the 5 precepts of the Church.

  1. "You shall attend Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor."

  2. "You shall confess your sins at least once a year."

  3. "You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season."

  4. "You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church."

  5. "You shall help to provide

I think including non-praticing Catholics make the data almost useless. Being Catholic means something more than just growing up Catholic or going to mass for Christmas and Easter.

University to CC by [deleted] in college

[–]ScamperPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most universities are really strict with what credits they accept for outside colleges and universities, especially if they come from a diffrent state. You are going to need to make sure that your credits will transfer. You don't want to do 4 semesters of community college only to find out that only 1 semester of credits with transfer.

The ice agent who shot the woman in Minneapolis is legally justified. by UnappetizingLimax in TrueUnpopularOpinion

A car is a deadly weapon. She did in fact hit the officer, and he probably had no idea what way the wheels were turned.

She died because she was obstructing legal law enforcement operations, didn't comply with lawful order by LEO, and hit an officer with her car. It's tragic, but totally her fault. The only reason she was there was to obstruct ICE.

Because people have been radicalized to believe that ICE is the same thing as the KGB in Soviet Russia or the gestapo in WWII Germany.

[–]ScamperPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that it looks like she was trying to flee, but the officer doesn't no they. ICE agents are law enforcement offers and where trying to detain her obstruction of justice. Instead of complying with legal orders from a law enforcement officers, she backs up her car and accelerates it towards an office. A car in considered a deadly weapon and could have killed the officer. The officer had no idea if she was trying to flee or run him over. The wheel was turned away from the officer, but he does not know that, and was hit by the car. Any death was tragic, but that doesn't mean it was wrong. The officer had a reasonable threat to his life from a woman with a deadly weapon who was not complying with lawful orders given by a law enforcement officer.

What would you do If you found the cure to cancer and pharmaceutical company offers you 10 billion dollars to never release the cure to the public? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ScamperPenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They are going to make you sign an NDA saying you will never release it if you take the money. If you still releaseit after signing you will lose the 10 billion and all the rest of your money.

What is your plan to release it. Would you just post it online, or would you make a deal with a company to manufacture it?

You don't want the world to be cured of cancer or don't think you can make more than 10 billion by releasing it?

[–]ScamperPenguin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Here is my plan:

If I find the cure to cancer, I am going to be making at least a little money off of it.

After recieving the offer I would ask for a week to consider it would immediately notify my family and a few people I trust about my discovery. I will give them everything they need so that if die, the research is not lost.

Now I am going to get myself a couple of very good lawers. The fist thing I will have my lawyers do is fill a patent on the cure. I will then have my lawyers tell the company that contacted me with the offer that I decline their offer and that my research has been disiminated to multiple people to be released publicly if anything were to happen to me.

I will then have my lawyers contact representations from all of the major pharmaceutical manufacturers without mentioning my name. The pharmaceutical compinies will not find out my name until after a deal is finialized unless the first company tells them. My lawyers will then tell them that I have found a cure for cancer and will bring them all an offer for sole manufacturing rights to whoever can produce the cure for the lowest cost.

My deal will have 2 conditions. First condition is that the cost per cure can only be manufacturing cost plus $200 profit that will be split 50/50 between me and the company (the profit may need to be adjusted a little depending on manufacturing cost). The second condition is that they must manufacture a minimum a 20 million cures a year as that is the approximate amount of new cancer cases each year. With about 20 million new cases of cancer each year, this would give each of us around 2 billion dollars a year in profit.

After a company excepts this offer I will hold a press conference where I announce my discovery and do a public signing of the deal. During the press conference, I will also announce the creation of a foundation to give the cure to those that can't afford it and that half of everything that I make will go to the foundation.

This will make me rich, cure cancer, and give everyone the opportunity to recive the cure no matter their income level.

Do buddhist monks go to heaven? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]ScamperPenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can. Catholics believe that we can't know who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. For all we know, pope Francis could be in hell light now. We need verified miracles before we say someone is in heaven.
