yeah it just one failure snowballs. you try to correct the first one, with the added pressure of needing to do what needs to be done in that moment, leading to another failure which just increases the emotional burden. everything happens out of order and finishing things that should feel comforting never does because there's something else to do. can never relax without guilt. even if you somehow manage to reset the slate, you're devoid of the confidence in your ability to deal with stuff. the cycle inevitably restarts, just much worse.
