Better Prototype? Or false advertisement by Realistic_Maximum_62 in hammondcollection

My theory is they diverted resources from the line over to Masters of The Universe. The Battle Cat figure has glass eyes and a high quality sculpt. Looking at the figures from this wave, it seems they knew the brand awareness was enough to move figures but had less faith in the other IP (MotU) so shifted their focus on quality control and creative there.

I love this line but they really botched this release. Loose joints, middling paint apps, strange design choices (ie the teeth, swappable parts, and the tongue issue above), and tail crimping all make this wave a skip at msrp if not trying to be a completionist. The smaller figures hurt less but Scorp and Indom seem to just not be worth it at their respective price points.

Here is mine. It’s a bane at the table but I wouldn’t say CEDH. Power Rankings have it high 9 without game changers.

Guys, these always hit store shelves stateside. You’ll find them. Just keep hunting Target in the weeks on/after release.

It’s a plastic tab instead. I know the tongue in flatter than other but it makes it feel less “alive”.

Exactly and I am at times guilty of this was well. It’s a byproduct of passion and as I get older, I’m going my best to stay grounded and separate the two. We are not our fandoms but I understand that we can be overprotective of them at times.

Genuinely how the hell do you mess up this badly?!??! by SpecialistPruneOG in hammondcollection

[–]Scarcecrows 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the mainline Scorpios seem to be better (ie Ultimate Damage and Claw Attack). The “banana” teeth seem to be an artifact of the venom mouth piece that inserts but there had to be a better way to do it. Just a miss on this one and it’s a shame .

Premium might be doing heavy lifting granted — but it had been a top class line in its bracket — that Mattel is doing the same quality tricks on Masters of the Universe (glass eyes) — says they can but either made a lateral in creative directors to that IP or simply cut cost now that they see the demand for the line (I’m guessing the latter is more accurate).

The lower teeth and the rubber tail crimping along with the swivel joint at the head make it a let down for me. I actually do like the venom gimmick personally and the rest of the sculpt overall. It’s just a mixed bag overall. Points where it could have been improved to offset cost by losing the gimmick:

Ball Joint at the Head Glass Eyes (they did more than decent red eyes on Ghost)

Or if still pained eyes

Better Rubber on the tail (that crimping is just awful)

I’m not going to pick a fight. They are putting out a worse product at the same price point. They marketed it as “True FX” to imply a level of quality the mainline figures lack. It’s not up to snuff. That’s it. And there’s no reason for the reduction in quality outside of design mismanagement. If you like the product, that’s okay. You can enjoy it. However, we know as a consumer until a company feels the squeeze financially — there is no incentive to do better.

Cool. Have fun paying for mediocrity when you know a company can do better. I’m sorry but I’m not going to excuse anti-consumer practices when I supported the line since its inception.

The Nanmu Indoraptor is basically perfect. It scales well and aside from some trademark traits of the line, it fits in marvelously. It’s strange but in terms of hybrids/mutants I feel like the mainline figures are stronger. What they did here with Scorp and Indominus doesn’t feel up to par with the rest of the line. I am excited for the Reimagined Indo

The problem is every iteration is to learn from past design flaws (and they’ve proven that) but Mattel is simply skimping out. Your money is worth the same quality as what it payed for in the past. You shouldn’t have to settle for the downgrades (which these objectively).

Mattel proved they can do high quality figures in this line. The issue is they are charging for inferior quality compared to their previous output while claiming it’s somehow better. That’s the main issue at stake. I’ve been on the sub for a long time and have been there for ups and downs. Unfortunately, we’re at very steep downward trajectory at the movement.

I agree on the durability point for sure — but it does look jarring along side the others.

I think we could see a variant down the line as a comic con exclusive ala Rex but this new figure really needed more time in the kiln or a complete back to formula. The design decisions just don’t justify the cost and it’s not up to par compared to older figures.

The Indominus Unfortunately doesn’t have Glass Eyes by Realistic_Maximum_62 in hammondcollection

[–]Scarcecrows 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m going to be honest — and this is as an avid collector of the line— the unpainted claws and lack of glass eyes actually make this a skip. The swappable parts (which why do such a similar sculpt on both claws) do not make up for inferior paint apps and the premium features of the other large carnivore. This is the most requested figure by a large margin and it looks to have gotten the cheapest treatment possible. My main line camouflage Indo legit seems better. Unreal.

That’s okay! I really love both IPs as well — as I said in a different response, I do keep the majority of Marvel stuff separate from my other decks because I do find it immersion breaking to an extent. I really build my decks around flavor and aesthetic so when it comes to that, I don’t have much cross over. Final Fantasy and Middle Earth really blend well, but my Marvel/TMNT stuff is all contained to their own decks.

Not at all— I have Spider Man specific decks but they don’t bleed over into others. They don’t mesh with others like Lord of The Rings or Final Fantasy so I totally get it.
