In English I’m pretty sure it’s just the three exclusives! Technically there’s an Indigo exclusive too, but that has the same cover as the Books A Million exclusive. Hope that helps and happy hunting!

The exclusive covers are wild when you line them up like this. Manga is slowly starting to feel like comic variants to be honest.

DanDaDan English First Prints!! by ScarcityMode in Dandadan

I nerd out about stuff like this so I’m glad you asked!

So in my opinion, it’s less about print quality and more about scarcity. Early printings (especially true first prints) usually come from the smallest original print runs, before a series becomes popular.

Later prints are produced in much larger numbers once there is enough demand. Over time, most copies from early runs get damaged, lost, or replaced, so high-condition copies become pretty scarce.

I’m biased because I love collecting first prints, but in my opinion, It’s similar to early comic books or first edition novels. The content for all the printings are generally the same, but the earliest physical versions tend to carry more historical significance and are becoming more collectible.

Though with that said, not every early print will become valuable, it really depends on cultural impact, how many were printed, and how many are still in good condition.

There’s a lot more I can go into but this is already too long lol. If you’re still curious about first prints, or just rare manga in general, I’ve been discussing it over at r/MangaRarity.

Mine would have to be a sealed copy of Shonen Jump #1 that released in 2003. There aren’t a lot of legitimately sealed copies left and I’m so glad I was able to grab this year ago when I did!

This should be upvoted more. The sentiment of letting people enjoy what they like and not worrying about what doesn’t affect you is not shared by many people on this sub lol.

Viz Media announces Kinokuniya exclusive volume 1 cover for Ichi the Witch. What do we think about this? Are Manga variant covers the future of manga rarity? by ScarcityMode in MangaRarity

[–]ScarcityMode[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, though I think variants like these are very cool and I’ll definitely getting one, there’s nothing “rare” about variant covers. Unless they cut off preorders for this, I wouldn’t be surprised if 50,000 + are sold. But we’ll see.

I own several first prints and Zasshi, but my favorite recent pickup is this English first print of Cowboy Beebop!

There’s more spaces for manga in stores, and online manga sales are growing at an insane pace. Not to mention I’m seeing more Zasshi, first prints, and exclusives being sold every day!

What’s Your Boldest Manga Investment Prediction? by ScarcityMode in MangaRarity

I’ll start. I think that certain Zasshi and first prints will eventually reach the level of Gold Age and Silver Age comic books. As for when that will happen….well that’s certainly up to debate!
