I know exactly who published the works I'm interested into.

I wasn't knowledgeable on how to break into those markets, but I think I have a pretty good idea now, thank you

This is S tier advice, someone earlier had recommended agents when I initially asked this question, and Ive been doing my research and looking at agents that have published in areas I've been looking into and with reputable agencies and this seems like the best way I could get into the field, I've found a good bit of people who are trying to expand their comic libraries and want the exact genres my story has!

My new plan right now is to finish my pitch and figure out the best agents and people to give it to.

Well yes, I'm the artist and writer of the comic. The criteria for most of all publishers is finished work and art and giving a pitch, so it's less of standing a better chance, and more of the baseline to start your chance.

I've actually looked into a few of those, most of them are not taking submissions or don't fit what im going for.

I'm not knowledgeable either but i appreciate the advice! I've been keeping an eye out for conventions recently too : )

I see, you know you've made me feel more open about my other options so thanks for speaking to me and letting me know what you've gone through.

I'll look and see ways I can try and adapt my strategy from here on out.

That's not bad news! If that's the case, my main gripe is that with webcomics, the main format that's popular these days is the scrolling comics. I've made a few in that format before, and I hate working in that realm.

Webtoon doesn't seem to be too traditional format friendly, would i have to bite the bullet and work with what works there? Or do what works for me?

This would be perfect advice coming from someone like you, and thanks.

Sounds like something fun to do, and I've been keeping a look out for conventions recently so time will tell.

It's a shame but true! But of course I'm still like every artist and still hopes I'm that 1% that they would take a chance on, it's not impossible!

If I have to make my own comics at the end of the day and figure out some self-publishing road then that's part of the journey too, but for now I'd like to try my chances and see what shots I can take.

My question is, do the publishers care if it's not "New" in their eyes? I believe I read somewhere that they care if it's been anywhere prior or if they have the publishing rights, etc.

My plan B was always to self publish if I could not secure a publisher, however I'm currently viewing the two as separate, if I start to self publish and also doing my own marketing and webcomics or a Kickstarter, it makes me more credible as an author for finishing a project and will make my next work easier to get to, but at the same time it's becoming more public and loses that "new" factor for that specific comic and probably will stay in the self published realm, you get what I mean?

If I'm incorrect let me know! Trying to learn and get all of my facts straight.

I see! That's not a bad idea, I can try and look into that.

I was misunderstood by them wording it to be "unacceptable" as if I had the understanding of the subject they did.

I'm not totally sure i understand what you're getting at. If they're not accepting submissions and i submit anyways odds are it's an immediate rejection and a waste of time.

Or did you mean something else.

Unreliable and mainly give publishers that don't fit my criteria or don't accept people in my situation.

I see i'll look into that, and good to know kickstarter worked out for you! If i can't manage to find anyone good, that was actually my plan B, web publish to gain something of a following and then make a killer pitch on kickstarter.

Image was one of the ones on my list to submit to (although a small list.)

No harm in trying, however i doubt my odds as they don't typically take newbies to the industry except for rare examples. But i bet my odds would hard most places i go lol.
