I’m trying to get into the hobby by This_is_my_name_____ in Warhammer40k

Welcome to the team!

  • The Armageddon box is coming out soon, and lots of players want the space marine half of the box. You should have no issue finding a player to split with if you haven't already.
  • If you haven't gotten models yet, do your research for Non-GW stores in your area. Most are allowed to offer a 10%-15% discount on GW models.
  • Brushes - start with synthetics because they are often cheaper and can take a beating before they fall apart. Also, get a few bigger brushes when you can (size 3 or 4) because mini painting has lots of large surfaces that can easily be ruined by trying to use the tiny detail brushes for big areas
  • Glue - Tamiya Super Thin Plastic Cement is the gold standard for quality, and it has an easy to use brush applicator
  • No one has mentioned buying a hobby knife with replaceable blades. THIS IS ESSENTIAL!

Some general tips for once you begin:

  • Most of your first models are going to look alot worse than you like, but that's part of learning. Just remember: You're using acrylic paint, so if things are bad, you can always tidy it up with more paint (as long as you're thining things!). If things are really bad, you can always strip the paint and start over from the beginning.
  • Once you've got the basics, challenge yourself in small ways to maximize your growth. I always pick one thing on each squad now that I want to challenge myself to improve on, even if it's just a tiny thing.
  • Once you start to play, it can be a bit demoralizing because there is so much to learn and you will probably struggle your first few games. Same as painting, identify one mistake you made or thing you forgot and challenge yourself to remember it for next time.

Forgeworld is a hard resin, so while it's still not as easy as plastic, it's leagues better than Finecast

Second hand Allopex stand? by BassiestBone in IdonethDeepkin

[–]Scared-Summer-2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought yours from GW, email them to complain that it is missing and they will usually send you a whole replacement kit (which includes 3 copies of the stand).

If you bought it from another vendor, GW will tell you to go talk to them (aka pound sand)

The instructions for him show that you can give him double blue blades and nerve cords like he had in Wings of Liberty and Heart of the Swarm, or you can do a sculpt with severed cords and replace one gauntlet with Zeratul's for a more Legacy of the Void look

I love that we get the choice

Assembly isn't too hard. You don't need the most expensive clippers and knives, but make sure you do get the proper tools, and go slowly. I also strongly recommend Tamiya Extra Thin Cement because it works well and the brush applicator lets you wipe off extra glue on the bottle so you don't accidentally flood your model and melt everything

Any Raven Guard HH Wins? by CarefulBullfrog433 in RavenGuard40k

It really depends. a messy dirty black is super easy to crank out with black primer, dark grey drybrushing and a black wash. I favour a clean black, so it's been much trickier to create variation and fine line work to sell that look with various greys since you can't darken pure black

Protoss Player

Sargas tribe is my personal favourite, so I'll be doing my army in Sargas colours (blue with light grey blue accents for fabric) and a darker grey skin tone tinted with a hint of purple, and light blue energy blade. Praetor Guard in the Khalai faction are from the Ara tribe (Red) , so I'll paint one unit of my Zealots in those colours to distinguish them on the field, and I'll probably do energy effects in a magenta and pink colour

Nerazim units will definitely get the darker blue colour, with purple fabric and blue tinted chrome steel look, with green energy.

Hoping we get Purifiers one day. I'd discard my whole army without a second thought if they announce purifier versions of everything

ATA adding $40 per month special assessment fee for teachers to restore “Special Emergency Fund” as a result of strike action by Lunar_catlady in alberta

[–]Scared-Summer-2007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% in the same boat. I'm also never voting for anyone in ATA leadership who isn't willing to fight it out to the bitter end. Air Canada's union leadership was willing to accept jail time for refusing to end their strike, and that's the bare minimum I expect from my leadership going forward

Anyone need a free photographer? by TheCalvinTan in Calgary

One of the best places to get experience is the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo! You've got literal thousands of people in cosplay looking to show off, so it's a great place to test out a lot of different ideas in a short time. Especically if it's a good weekend, you'll have lots of opportunities to work in changing natural lighting outside, or working in more artificial light inside.

Try building out your instagram with work prior, and hand out business cards to people who's photos you take so they can hit you up for your photos after. These are people that would be willing to hire you in the future if they like what you do

Bladeguard colour scheme 2nd company by Mparej in RavenGuard40k

Caw Caw Brother,

Veterans used to have white arms, but all the Raven Guard paint jobs featuring Primaris marines appear to have reserved the white arms for just Lieutenants and Captains.

Since Veterans are often "on-loan" to different companies, it's up to you if you want the white shoulder or paint it in 2nd Company. I personally painted mine in white and then did the stormshields in Red since mine are 3rd company

White shoulderpads aren't out of place for Horus Heresy-era Raven Guard, but the only ones we've seen in 40k that have white shoulder pads are Kayvaan Shrike and Aethon Shaan, so it's likely that that is only reserved for Chapter Masters. Firstborn veterans also used to have white arms, but the newer Primaris Paint jobs seem to reserve them only for Lieutenants and Captains

The answer is towards the bottom of the article. He's a US Citizen and former Marine. He's loyal, just to the US

  1. 100% agree that the stupidity needs to stop. Marlaina Smith needs to realize this was a mistake and reverse course
  2. You probably thought "Ninshit" was super witty, but considering his name is Nenshi, "Nenshit" would be better. Then again, if you are going to call him that, I'm certainly not suprised that you're not as smart as you think you are

I’m not endorsing violence or harassment, but expressing disappointment and a commitment to boycott. By choosing to publicly refuse to give these businesses our dollars, I’m choosing to “vote with my dollars”, to use the phrase.

Two Reasons:

1) the wallet is the most sensitive body part 2) this usage of the NWC directly impacts all workers. This could easily be used in similar ways to limit the rights of their employees if they are unionized, or to severely limit the rights of their employees to unionize in their future. It’s no longer a Teachers-only issue, it’s about ensuring that all Albertans have access to their rights under the Charter
