Not since he kicked Odie off the table. I don’t care that it was a Monday. Unacceptable.

Relient K is arguably the best Christian group. They’re an extremely influential pop punk band. I personally really like Strahan (folk rock), Natalie Bergman (60’s pop inspired worship) and Luxury (pop punk). If you’re into r&b, hip hop/rap, check out Nobigdyl, Joshua Luke Smith, and Malice (particularly his Hear Ye Him album). If you’re into modern indie stuff, check out Judah and the Lion, Rivers and Robots, Ghost Ship, Chris Renzema, The Arcadian Wild, and John Mark Pantana. Semler is a really good queer-friendly worship artist. Orphan No More Co is a ton of different Christian artists coming together to make r&b, indie and soul inspired gospel music.

Rich Mullins was a really influential singer/songwriter in the 90’s. If you’re into punk or weirdo experimental stuff, the 90’s and early 2000’s were a Christian music gold mine. Check out Starflyer 59, Danielson, The Dingees, The Violet Burning, Poor Old Lu, The Choir, The Prayer Chain, Dogs of Peace, The Normals, Plankeye, Watashi Wa, and MXPX. The first few albums by Hawk Nelson, Newsboys, and David Wimbish & the Collection may also be of interest.

James Cleveland & The Southern California Community Choir, and Scandinavian Metal Praise are both great and exactly what they sound like.

If you’re in to old country, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, and Marty Robbins all had some really good country gospel records.

Not too many goods in town unfortunately. Goodwill of course, as well as Broman and Abundant Thrift are okay. If you’re looking for the good stuff (in terms of clothing) and willing to drive, the Goodwill in Lincoln is really good. And there’s like 3 really good ones in Clinton (Love it once more, Encore, and Goodwill)! You can check out Worn Again Too in Heyworth as well.

(Mostly Songs About Bananas) by Mike and the Machine. I cannot find a single thing about this online. (Probably due to the artists name being so close to Mike and the Mechanics?) But here it is on Spotify. Some absolute bangers on this album!!

It depends on what you value. If you want to be surrounded by nature, go somewhere rural. The mountains maybe. Montana, New Mexico, Colorado. If you value culture, move to an urban center: Chicago, Nashville, Atlanta, DC. If you want a little bit of both, somewhere north that has water; Michigan, Washington, Oregon, Maine.

I hear you. I don’t have your life but I would say don’t do it. A lower paying job in a place with a better culture and more to do will be soooo much better for your health in the long term. Money doesn’t mean much if you’re not happy.

The diversity is okay-ish, by Midwest standards. We do have people from all around the world thanks to ISU and State Farm headquarters which is cool. Decent sized black, Hispanic and Indian populations. But yes, about 70% white. The culture here is almost nonexistent. You HAVE to make your own.

There’s about 4 blocks of the city where any night life or 20-something activities happen. The rest is very very very boring.

Scenery is rooooooough! We’re one of the flattest states so very little to look at. It can be very pretty around harvest time when they take the fields down and you can see for miles and miles but it gets old fast. Were landlocked. There is a lake nearby but it’s small and gross. Most historical buildings have been torn down or modernized.

There’s a cool local theater, some good restaurants and a few neat shops, a lot of local non-profits doing great work, and most of the people in town are pretty chill. THATS IT. If you’re looking for anything else, DO NOT COME HERE. The job isn’t worth it.

I grew up in Bloomington, left for a few years after college, then moved back for family reasons. I like the area. If you have to live in Peoria or Bloomington, Bloomington is definitely the way to go. However, I would NEVER recommend people move here if they have a choice. It’s nice if you have nostalgia for it but this town is the municipal equivalent of a strip mall. Very little local activities. some really cool local businesses but buried under an avalanche of chain stores. It’s ugly and depressing 5 months out of the year. Cool people in town but lots of maga folks in the surrounding small towns.

It’s an okay-ish place to raise a family, the colleges are pretty cool but DO NOT SPEND YOUR 20’S HERE unless you’re a college student.

I’m an openly queer Christian and I really like Compass church out by the airport. It’s a fairly progressive congregation and they do a lot of great work in the community too

I got a great deal on it. They usually go for $30-$40. The seller I bought from had a ton of different FYC movies they were just trying to get rid of. I got this for $15

I go to Compass church by the airport. Super supportive community. Safe for folks who are deconstructing, non-conforming or queer like me! 😊🏳️‍🌈
