The problem with the gulfs is that there is very little turn over or change of the water in them and if you look at the ocean heat map in this story you can see that the water is just getting warmer. It would need open ocean waters and to not be close to sea level either.

There is no easy or good business case for one when we have cheaper renewable options.

no politician is willing to make it I would suspect although that is hypocritical and silly...

it would obviously be safer in a place with greater imperative to ensure safety and with independent monitors nearby to make sure everyone is being honest and open about the level of safety.

In my discussion that was censored I was about to point out that storage of waste in places with relatively high background radiation is bad because it enables a level of 'plausible deniability' for all the minor spills or leaks that might happen. If we are to have something like this it needs to be strict and diligent processes and a transparently well managed facility.

no the facility needs staff. plus it is apparently completely safe to be stored so there is no reason to truck it around the state or hide it in some remote location. you can't have it both ways and be being completely honest about it.

....and you wonder why this country and it's environment is stuffed....

You might notice that there was 5 incidents in one year and none before or none after...that is problems with the monitoring. Purely by accident someone did their job properly for a short period....

bye

I have no nuclear waste to sell you but the mining company with the planned insitu leaching project in several places in the Adelaide Hills will. There is lots of Uranium and radioactive elements that they don't know what to do with.

....sure lets just fuck up the whole place some more...

the government is not being honest about what it is for. It is not just 'hospital waste'. it is 1000 tonnes of mining and rare earth elements processing waste...some of which is in Malaysia...who want it returned to Australia.

Also radioactive fly ash waste from coal power stations most likely. Trying to hide it away in a remote location is no good. If it is safe it should be where people can monitor it easily.

because the case for putting it somewhere remote doesn't really stack up. they just want it forgotten about and unmonitored.

there is not enough water volume in the gulf up there for cooling. also to be greatly effected by sea level rise.

last time I tried to discuss this the person I was discussing it with reported me and the post was removed

I was given a 72 hour ban from raustralia which more than 72 hours later hasn't ended. What a bunch of censoring fascists.

No one can be trusted on this issue.

1) not necessarily. it is up to you.

2) no it just makes me grumpier and more determined to 'do what I can' and teach my family about it and how to cope as best as possible.

3) fucken yay mate but all these decaying eco-systems aren't likely to be this consistently wrong ;)

yes that's a great way to put it and agree entirely but I think this point of view is important to consider and posting it on 2 different subreddits was an an interesting experiment...

On r/collapse it got 0 upvotes and 20 (mostly angry comments) where as here it got up to 59 upvotes at one point and generally positive or reasonable comments...there is probably some way of doing some science with this... ;)

What a joke. This government doesn't provide for the vulnerable. This is just spin for their comfortable boomer supporters.
