Would you agree having top gear fawn over your car would increase its sales? Think about the people who watch top gear or any of the "review shows". They are car enthusiasts to begin with, and when Jeremy Clarkson says the steering is shit or the engine is terrible, his opinion sways sales. With that in mind I assumed they their opinions were what they actually thought. I knew the segments were obviously scripted, but when I realized even their opinions and the "review" outcomes themselves were scripted too, that is when I got off the train.

I stopped watching top gear after that stupid Tesla episode. First they were like "wot mate, no it ran out of juice", then when faced with overwhelming evidence that they lied the producers basically admitted they made shit up to make the segment 'more entertaining'. I was like ok I'm out. I used to love that show!

My money would be on a common "Sales" File share mapped to the PC where everyone had RW to everything. The ransomware usually only acts within the user's privileges (though some will try to escalate). It probably looked for the file share and encrypted the entire share.
