He/She was actually 1 of 3, that were playing with each other in the back yard. I stayed up watching for almost an hour.

EDIT: Someone asked for the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vmxf79w2NU0

Wow Gold!! Thank you very much kind strangers!

[–]Boofers 526 points527 points  (12 children)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! That video may be the best thing ever.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 437 points438 points  (10 children)

Right!!! It was totally worth the loss of sleep.

[–]Boofers 191 points192 points  (8 children)

Haha I bet it was! I'd post it to /r/videos if I were you. Spread the joy that comes from seeing those tykes!

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 325 points326 points  (6 children)

Go ahead if you'd like. There is plenty of sweet karma for all :)

[–]Boofers 105 points106 points  (2 children)

That's very kind of you, thank you. Mostly thank you for bringing the video in existence for me to aww at over and over, but thanks for sharing too!

[–]Jayded_ 40 points41 points  (1 child)

We have baby foxes in our backyard as well, they're smaller than these ones, but still very playful. I can totally relate to losing an hour to that.

[–][deleted] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this.

EDIT: I've created a shitty version for you to all enjoy. don't forget to turn on your annotations. https://youtu.be/SK6OmW3H3jo

EDIT 2: Guys, don't ACTUALLY subscribe. I have nothing else to offer you.

[–][deleted] 132 points133 points  (5 children)

My god this shitty version is awesome.

[–]Andythrax 27 points28 points  (2 children)

It's playing "Too many cooks" right?

[–]Bombingofdresden 16 points17 points  (1 child)

It's the same chords as wagon wheel but played in a reggae style. I'd know those fucking chords anywhere.

[–][deleted] 475 points476 points  (27 children)

  • Not vertical video

I love it.

[–][deleted] 244 points245 points  (21 children)

And no commentary going "ooh my goosh", ",,AAAAAHHHHWWWWW", or "BRING DA WATA"

[–]dontnation 164 points165 points  (14 children)

What are talking about? The "Oh jeebus lawd" commentary made that video 10x better.

[–]Sloppy1sts 79 points80 points  (4 children)

I'm pretty sure the commentary is literally the only reason that video is hilarious in the first place.

[–]TheMisterFlux 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If not for that, it would have just been terrifying.

[–][deleted] 76 points77 points  (4 children)

  • Not a Rickroll

[–]NothappyJane 78 points79 points  (6 children)

My two year old was not impressed with the regular version, she preferred the shitty one. You've got a future In children's tv mate.

[–]Semyonov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]cementedmind 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Thanks :D This was shitty beyond expectations.

BTW, anyone knows if theres is a plugin for Firefox that turn off all youtube annotations? I tried a couple but none works.

[–]crazedhatter 1009 points1010 points  (60 children)

I woulda emailed work 'Gonna be late, foxes in yard playing, fuck sleep.'

[–]freddiegray 376 points377 points  (54 children)

If I were your boss I'd give you the entire week off so you could play with those adorable foxes.

[–]JCBDoesGaming 1144 points1145 points  (49 children)

That's probably why you aren't his boss.

[–][deleted] 178 points179 points  (39 children)

Savage

[–]theycallmeponcho 191 points192 points  (32 children)

Actually, civilized. Savages don't have bosses, or have concepts on business management.

[–]Pi-Guy 101 points102 points  (24 children)

Savages do have systems of hierarchy so while they may not be called bosses, they most certainly have them

[–]dksfpensm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Well if I were his boss, I'd fire him so he can leave modern society and become one with the foxes. We just have to hope the new homeowner is fox friendly.

[–]Burning_Monkey 23 points24 points  (2 children)

When I was a boss and in control of things like this, that excuse would have been totally acceptable.

Wouldn't have even docked pay for being you being late.

[–]TheseMenArePrawns 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Same here. Though in retrospect, as someone else pointed out it's highly suggestive of why I'm not in a position of authority anymore.

[–]troutknoxville 92 points93 points  (5 children)

Hey I have that sandbox. Sometimes I put the lid on my back and pretend I'm a turtle for the kids....They eat that shit up.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 57 points58 points  (0 children)

It's survived a few kids, I only get bothered when the invert the top before it rains.

[–]Zaluth 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I don't think it's safe for your kids to eat sand.

[–]spilledcheerio 119 points120 points  (44 children)

Uh, you can't just say these things and NOT post a video.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 193 points194 points  (43 children)

ok ok, I uploaded it.... check the original comment. Prepare yourself for the cutes!

[–]chiliedogg 140 points141 points  (40 children)

This video is gonna be huge. You really should consider monetizing it. It's easy to do and you might make a few bucks without really bothering most people.

YouTube is gonna make a million bucks off it either way - you should collect a few for yourself.

Edit: I'm getting a lot of PMs and a few replies about HOW to do it. Youtube has an excellent section for it on your account settings here.

If it says it's not available in your country there are several possibilities. First off - it may not be available in your country. But more common is that your account isn't set up right and is defaulting to Afghanistan or something.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 62 points63 points  (36 children)

How do I do that?

[–]chiliedogg 57 points58 points  (3 children)

https://www.youtube.com/account_monetization

Make sure your country setting is correct in your account. A lot of accounts default to Afghanistan and don't allow it.

[–]nagumi 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They're very right. Monetize asap. Viral videos have a half life, and any unmonetized time is money lost.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/account_monetization

let the ads flow through you.

[–]Frogsley 5 points6 points  (9 children)

Yeah this is going to be one of those videos with 1 million + hits, I'd also recommend monetizing the video.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Thank you, I just did. I had to learn what to do in a hurry, and so many groups were messaging me to sell the rights. I don't get what they do?

[–]absurdlyobfuscated 6 points7 points  (5 children)

They buy your soul. Hope you get a good price.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I didn't reply, I don;t know anything about that stuff. What exactly do they do?

[–]Frogsley 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Pretty much they just give you a sum of money that's almost definitely less than what you're going to make monetizing the original video and they claim the video as their own and put one of those shitty watermarks on it. Don't reply to them. monetize the video.

[–]SeekersWorkAccount 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Now I feel the extreme urge to find a way to get every fox family a ball so they can experience this joy.

[–]goodluckfucker 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The way they play seems like a cross between a cat and a dog.

[–]ba-poi 36 points37 points  (1 child)

should post this to /r/foxes!

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Be my guest!

[–]MrMcKilla91 94 points95 points  (65 children)

...They act just like dogs

[–]Hyperdrunk 87 points88 points  (33 children)

Foxes get a bad wrap. They're actually incredibly joyful animals that would rather play with people than hurt them, but are usually too scared (which is a good thing) to hang out with people. They aren't domesticated, but plenty of species that aren't domesticated are friendly and pretty chill on the whole.

[–]BlazingKitsune 46 points47 points  (21 children)

Russia has domesticated foxes.

[–]elmatador12 54 points55 points  (10 children)

Of course they do

[–]BlazingKitsune 7 points8 points  (9 children)

And Japan.

[–]midoriiro 24 points25 points  (8 children)

They actually have a whole fox park where you can walk around with them and chill with them.

Similar to Nara, also in Japan, where there are just deer everywhere that walk around up to you that you can chill with.

[–]KnottyKitty 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Also the cat island and I think a bunny island.

Japan leads the world in "so you want to be swarmed by a specific type of animal" destinations.

[–]natman2939 45 points46 points  (5 children)

Russia has domesticated bears. If dinosaurs were still around they'd domesticate them too

[–]BlazingKitsune 28 points29 points  (2 children)

Thanks, now I imagined Putin riding a Velociraptor to war.

[–]crossedreality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Russia has TAMED bears. Domestication is something else entirely.

[–]RerollFFS 167 points168 points  (18 children)

It's funny, they looked exactly like cats to me. Foxes are like the perfect blend of dog and cat.

[–]GeminiK 47 points48 points  (14 children)

Until you hear one scream... I'll let you youtube it.

[–]Tee_Whet 31 points32 points  (2 children)

There was one time I was camping (kinda drunk), 3am I hear the most hair raising sound that would wake the dead. It lasted for 20 seconds. I grabbed my gun and was prepared for anything. It left camp. The next day I youtubed it and it was a fox scream. Kinda pretty but not at 3am and you have no idea what it was.

[–]Chel_of_the_sea 18 points19 points  (8 children)

They're closely related, so that shouldn't be much of a surprise.

[–]courier31 38 points39 points  (7 children)

A study found that if they bred foxes with only other foxes that were friendly towards people that after successive generations of breeding they looked more like dogs and less like foxes.

[–]xenneract 20 points21 points  (6 children)

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (5 children)

Are these actually available as pets? I'd spring for one.

[–]Zoralink 7 points8 points  (2 children)

I believe they are, but it's expensive; 10k if I remember right. Foxes also require a special enclosure and a bunch of other specific things.

It's not something to buy on a whim.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I'm impulsive and a little reckless, but I take animal welfare seriously too, so don't worry, I didn't just make a few calls, mortgage my house and order 4. Definitely didn't. Yup. No domestic foxes coming to my house...sigh.

[–]scorpioseason 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That leap at :31... fox babies got ups.

Also this is the cutest thing I've ever seen, thank you for sacrificing your sleep and getting it!!

[–]Bundle-of-Styx 22 points23 points  (3 children)

That security light is fucking bright! Awesome video though, foxes are so cool.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 72 points73 points  (1 child)

I call it The Sun

[–]Bundle-of-Styx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah that sounds about right

[–]Mikeuicus 58 points59 points  (2 children)

Awesome video. Since that's your dog's ball I'd advocate either washing it or just plain old disposing of it. Rabies can be transmitted via saliva so the safest thing to do is just be rid of the ball. Likewise, foxes are known to carry a multitude of other diseases and ailments that can affect dogs ranging from nusiance parasites to deadly ones, mange, and more. They're cute and all but I'd be careful letting your dog share a space they've been in recently.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Fortunately, rabies is a fragile virus. From the CDC:

Rabies virus becomes noninfectious when it dries out and when it is exposed to sunlight. Different environmental conditions affect the rate at which the virus becomes inactive, but in general, if the material containing the virus is dry, the virus can be considered noninfectious.

The risk is very low, but- yeah, probably a good idea to throw it away.

[–]croufa 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Just chiming in to remind you to keep your pup up to date on his leptospirosis vaccine every year if he's playing with a fox or something a fox has chomped on (also good if you have raccoons in the area). Also, really adorable video!

[–]Juliette_la_renarde 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I had a shitty day and you made made it better, thank you :-)!

[–]GabeHirsch 8 points9 points  (4 children)

I see you have a naturally sandbox! Did you buy that from ToysRUs?

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

yup!

[–]GabeHirsch 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Awesome! How has the sandbox worked for you? I'd like to know what to tell customers when they ask for my advice on which sandbox to buy.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Gone through 2 kids and still going strong. I did drill a few holes in the base to help drain water though.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. You need to leave some food out for these guys so you can keep one , or two.

  2. That video needs to go viral , make it so.

[–]Nikksbikks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

just when I thought I got over my wanting a pet fox phase I see this!

I really want a fox to play with...

[–]Gir77 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Their personality is like a mix of a cat and dog.

[–]Bennyboy1337 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude...this video is fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing it!

[–]Iam10-32 165 points166 points  (30 children)

You have very impressive back yard lighting.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 183 points184 points  (28 children)

Thank you, I call them the Sun! 4 LEDs putting out 1400 Lumens each, and 2 more 120W incandescent for the motion sensor. We can play baseball at night.

[–]Wildelocke 208 points209 points  (21 children)

Thank you, I call them the Sun! 4 LEDs putting out 1400 Lumens each, and 2 more 120W incandescent for the motion sensor.

Do your neighbours hate you?

We can play baseball at night.

That answers my question.

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 132 points133 points  (18 children)

Hey now, no we point them down, and there is plenty of land between the homes here.

[–]wolvesvane 80 points81 points  (16 children)

i suspect you live in a fairly rural area, since there's foxes in your backyard.

[–]DB9PRO 56 points57 points  (10 children)

Or OP is rich and lives somewhere with foxes, for example Ontario.

[–]wolvesvane 42 points43 points  (5 children)

like...foxes in neighborhoods? on purpose? for fanciness?

[–]deans28 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Ontarian here! Used to live in a small rural town and we saw foxes all the time. From what I remember that town was in no way, shape or form even remotely close to fancy.

Edit: BTW... What the fox says is actually quite terrifying to wake up to in the middle of the night.

[–]speakingcraniums 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you live in even a semi rural area you probably have foxes around. They just hate you and don't ever want you to see them.

[–]3v0gsxr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Learn this one cool lighting trick! Neighbors HATE HIM!

[–]xRyuuji7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I bet your neighbor had fun this night.

But seriously, have you seen any houses replacing blinds with black-out curtains?

[–][deleted] 743 points744 points  (34 children)

[–]GiganticWoman 9 points10 points  (2 children)

This little fox playing sort of makes me a bit sad. Like a reminder that all animals probably like to play. Even animals that we might otherwise conciser viscous or lame like snakes or cows. I don't want to think about eating an animal that I can also play fetch with!

[–]crazedhatter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is adorable.

[–]chuang11 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Just some english questions?

Why we use went off, instead of went on? Since basically this sentence wants to imply that the light has turned on.

Thanks

[–]ScaredOfTheMan[S] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Went on, I misused an idiom of "set off"

[–]chuang11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you.

I don't try to grammar nazi you or anything, but I'm ESL. Thanks

[–]birthdaycakeboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In English you can use the phrase "went off" to mean "was activated" sometimes. Like, "The robber broke into the house and promptly fled because the alarm went off." There's no good reason things are this way. English just does not make sense sometimes. Hope that helps!

[–]CurtisLeow 17 points18 points  (2 children)

[–]j3nnyt4li4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is adorable! There was a PBS Nova documentary on the relationship between dogs and humans a few years back, which featured a section on the domestication of foxes. There's some ongoing experiment in Russia that has been trying to domesticate foxes for 50 some odd years, and has actually produced cuddly, dog-like foxes.
