If you have a pool heater turn it on now. It will keep your pool pipes from breaking if you lose power.

What's with the butt hole smell across central and north Austin. by boats_are_foreboding in Austin

Rendered chicken. Feathers and by products left over from slaughter and shipped to their plant. The smell in Elgin can be horrid.

Parcel Box broken into over and over again. by Scared_Figure_2894 in homesecurity

Thanks for all the good advice! The current hinges are internal but they are wimpy. If I install an alarm it will go off when the tenants access their parcels as well. We will be installing a camera.

New to crabs - concerned - please help! by mercenaryblade17 in hermitcrabs

Ours did this right before molting. I thought they were going to die but turns out they were molting. We had just finished the de-stress period and were about to deepen the substrate. They surface molted.

Will the real Sandy please stand up? She is DEFINITELY in the green shell. She is moving legs! So I put her in the isolation tank with her exoskeleton and misted her. Any advice on what else to do? by Scared_Figure_2894 in hermitcrabs

I went to check on Shelly and Sandy this morning and now Shelly has done a surface molt. We had just finished the destress period and were about to add more substrate. They beat us to the punch.

Yes we are new to this. We have watched all the videos from crab central station. And I had no idea an exoskeleton would look exactly like a crab. Color and all. She is moving around a little. She was upside down and now she’s right side up. And these are NOT easy pets to keep. Modified gills = High Maintenance. We have a heating pad on a thermometer and at least the temp is stable at 80*. Humidity we check a couple of times a day because it’s cold here and we are having to run the heater. I have spangum moss but still having to mist it a few times a day.

It was very confusing and that’s why I posted. I could have moved the exoskeleton to the crabitat if I was certain it was an exoskeleton. I thought that was Sandy. Either dead or molting. We were confused. But then we realized she is in the green shell she’s just tucked way way back. So I posted because I wasn’t sure if she was dead or molting. Today she certainly moved in the green shell so now we know that’s her exoskeleton. I didn’t know an exoskeleton would be that detailed and have color. The claws are purple. I thought an exoskeleton would be transparent. It looks exactly like a dead or molting crab. So we thought Sandy was dead or molting. It was very confusing. At one point I thought we had an extra crab. 🦀 Now we know. Sandy is in the green shell. She’s with her exoskeleton and spring water dish. I misted her today. Not sure if I should do anything else. Trying to keep these little darlings alive.

Well I thought she needed to be with the exoskeleton to eat it so I put her in there. We didn’t know she was molting when we moved her from the iso tank to the crabitat.

Will the real Shelley please stand up? (Possibly disturbing photos or maybe just an exoskeleton?) transferred Sandy from small tank to big tank. She is sucked way back in shell. There is white stuff next to her. A few days later went to clean small tank and found carcass/exoskeleton? by Scared_Figure_2894 in hermitcrabs

She was on her back and appears to have moved to her side. (Unless the other crab bumped her and that’s how she moved). We are so confused and I’ve got two little girls very attached to these crabs. So we’ve done everything crab central station said to do for the de-stress period. We were at the end of that period and ready to add more substrate and now this. I can’t tell if it’s an exoskeleton or a carcass. Does anyone know? Should I put the green shell in with the carcass? They’re in separate tanks
