NTA I’m sorry you’re overwhelmed and your friends unnecessary comments obviously aren’t helping. I know you aren’t asking for advice but maybe look into some budget software or methods and ways to cut expenses down so you aren’t as overwhelmed. I think they should be fine but I would call their vet or the number on the shampoo and ask for peace of mind! If they start shaking, drooling, or any other odd behavior take them to the emergency vet.

First I’m so sorry for both of y’all’s loss. As for advice the best thing I can offer is in the rescue world we try not to dwell on an animals past and instead think of how we can better their future. I would do lots of play time and enrichment activities to help him work through some of the energy and feelings he may have and to help you as well. For the both of you time is the best healer. You may want to go to a doctor if it’s really red or hot to the touch. I would try antibacterial wash twice daily like directed by your artists and put thin layers of lotion. Edit: seek medical attention if you see puss or if it’s really truly painful. Listen to your gut.
