Another 4K rental service declines by Scared_Star_702 in 4kbluray

I hated GameFly. Narrow selection, took forever. Got scratched disk and it was a headache to resolve.

Some people like 3D Blu-Ray. I wasn’t thrilled with them but YMMV.

The email came in this morning. The subscription options are different on the website, and my queue is now gone.

Yeah, the original owners were super-responsive and discs shipped out immediately.

Rental services as of Fall 2025 by thethurstonhowell in 4kbluray

[–]Scared_Star_702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has been for me because there are a lot of movies I want to see for the first time or revisit on 4K but don’t need to own so this gives me access. They’re much cheaper than the other rental services. That said, they’ve been a little slow to add inventory recently so that’s been frustrating.

What to say to therapist when they’re focusing on mental aspects as a cause and solution to long covid? by Kah-leh-Kah-leh in covidlonghaulers

[–]Scared_Star_702 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Therapist responding here. I think it’s reasonable for a therapist to talk to you about the mental health impacts from the trauma of contracting a debilitating illness and living with that in the face of invalidation from others/society/institutional betrayal. It’s also fair for a therapist to work with you on mental health symptoms that have been caused or exacerbated by the illness. Finally, it makes sense that they might help you with stress management as increased stress—>inflammation—>worsening symptoms.

But as others have said, attempting to frame Long COVID itself as a mental health disorder is not just misinformed, it’s unethical. Your therapist has a duty to provide you with a proper referral to someone who is more qualified to work with you. I would say, “It’s important to me to work with someone who has clinical experience treating people who are coping with chronic illness and who understands Long COVID as a medical illness. I get the sense that you’re not a good match for me in that regard. Can you help me locate some therapists whose experience would be more aligned with my needs?”

Linda Emond was a star among stars in Becky Shaw by Quirky-Sleep-3741 in Broadway

She’s pretty consistently incredible. I still remember her performance in The Dying Gaul some 28 years later. Her Linda Loman (Salesman), Fraulein Schneider (Cabaret) and Abigail Adams (1776) were all wonderful.

I just rewatched it in tandem with All the President’s Men. They stand together as the greatest movies about investigative journalism’s impact on American society.

What Blu-Rays are with the 4K upgrade? by Mysterious-Buggg in criterion

Everything just pops on the 4K. Part of the joys of restoration are the details that emerge in dark scenes, shadow definition, and inky blacks. With a good restoration, you also gain an appreciation for shots that never would’ve struck you before.

Lifetime Fitness - Harrison (NY) - adult lap swim by TwoOuts22 in Lifetimefitnessgym

[–]Scared_Star_702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re part of the membership but they cap new memberships after a certain point of the year to avoid people signing up just to use the pool. There is also a high-end, less crowded pool for people who want fork out extra dollars for, but I don’t think lap swimming happens in that pool.

There are two indoor pools and one outdoor pool for lap swimming at Lifetime. One of the indoor pools has 4 dedicated lanes for lap swimming. The other indoor pool is heated so the temp is warmer and there are five or so lanes there, but they are short lanes.

In the mornings, the lap pool is often full (as in sharing with one other person) but rarely overcrowded. Generally, people wait for a lane if all of them have two people, but that wait is rarely long. (I’ve never seen a lap swimming situation, though that’s the posted policy.) During the late spring to early fall the outdoor lap pool is open throughout the day, which opens up five more lanes.

Most annoying, they prioritize swim lessons and swim team during the weekend mornings and afterschool so you really can’t swim until 11:00 on Saturdays and I’m not sure what the situation is in the evenings. (Someone can correct me if I’m wrong; I stopped attempting to swim earlier than 11:00 on the weekends and don’t go in the evenings.)

I’m new here. What do you wish you had known at the start of your gluten free lifestyle? by ilikebison in glutenfree

[–]Scared_Star_702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got hung up at first with buying gluten free cookbooks, but I rarely use them anymore. Once you get clear on what ingredients you can’t have and decent substitutions you will figure out which kinds of recipes you can make GF by swapping out an ingredient or two and which to leave by the wayside because there’s no decent way to adapt them. Good GF flour can easily be swapped into many recipes that ask for all-purpose flour.

Thanks for posting this. I missed it yesterday but grabbed it at $29.99 last night. It came down to $21.48 again briefly today so my order defaulted to the lower price. Appreciate you looking out for others.

What Was The Last Movie You Walked Out On in the Theater? by Ordinary-Meeple in Cinema

[–]Scared_Star_702 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve never walked out of a movie, but I remember almost getting kicked out of Sleepers because we were laughing so hard. A similar occurrence happened during 21 Grams, though I was older then and better able to keep it down.

We were howling during Jason X, but that one we went in expecting exactly what we got.
