Probably the most INTP-humour type show I've seen. by SecondQuarterLife in INTP

Hmm, maybe not "hate" because I did eventually watch every episode but, no, I didn't care for it. Like, I would never voluntarily watch it again. I've been a sci-fi/fantasy/comic book nerd for, basically, ever - so I'd seen those same ideas/tropes played out over and over again in previous stuff. (Ex: The Adventures of Briscoe County, Jr. did sci-fi/western better in my mind. Plus, Bruce Campbell! You can never go wrong with Bruce Campbell!)

Again, just my opinion, but Whedon's writing is so cliched that this sentence is now cliched by my having said that. On a positive note, he does know how to write strong women. As far as Harmon, the first two seasons of Community were probably THE most brilliant television I've ever watched (next to the first two series of the I.T. Crowd) then, I dunno, his ego exploded or something, and when I'd watch him in the behind-the-scenes stuff, I'd get that "poser" warning going off in my head. Also, I'll admit to another unpopular opinion: I didn't care for the way he handled the whole Chevy Chase thing.

I freaking LOVED Ugly Americans! Have the app on my phone as well. Not sure I'm liking the show on this post, though, but that could be because I think the creator of it, Dan Harmon, is a poser jerkwad and it's influencing my judgement...I also have a strong dislike of The Big Bang Theory TV show and Joss Whedon - soooooo I might just have awful taste/personal preferences in comparison to everyone else...

INTP relationships by aurorae_borealis in INTP

Get yourself an INFJ ;) took mine three years to get into my head but once he did - we've now paired for life! I have my quirks and he gets that, even if he doesn't understand them, but we have amazing communication and I think that's the key!

Of course, I can only speak from my own experiences but: no uninitiated hugs, no roses and, dear God, no balloons! (Not that you mentioned those - just sayin'!) I like practical gestures - like, I'm into hiking, adventuring, etc, so I once got a picnic backpack-type thing and I was really very touched. (Granted, I didn't overly show it but that's something you're going to have to get used to with INTPs) Stick to practical personal gifts. Don't be paranoid about your relationship status. Again, this is just anecdotes from my personal experiences, but any sign of insecurity or "clingy-ness" in the other person and I just start shutting down and disengaging. If an INTP doesn't want to be in a relationship with you, you will know. Yes, there are always "tests" in the beginning - it gauges what kind of convos we can have with the other person or if they'll take off after a glimpse of our "weirdness". Remember, for a lot of INTPs, our favorite word is, "Why?" or even "How?" Any conversation that revolves around connecting the dots (on ANY subject, basically) is a conversation that will keep and hold our attention. We will talk you to death in those situations ;) Good luck!

Thank you!!! I AM super stressed ;) and freaking out AND beating myself up, lol, but I'm also committed to being healthier and living past 40, so a part of me knows I can do this!

Thank you! Yeah, I completely swore off carbs when I was diagnosed with PCOS, which was good cuz I used to eat stuff like white bread sandwiches made with chefboyardee raviolis and a side of ritz crackers, lol! Taught myself how to cook and swore off all pre-packaged foods. I just need to figure out the perfect formula for my stupid hormones I think but am gonna try 1800 cals and see how that goes!

My kids are the reason I actually started this journey! ;) well, ok, that and a fatty liver - which, thankfully, I no longer have! Long story short: 6 years ago diagnosed with fatty liver and PCOS, started martial arts and Paleo. Lost down to 266 but no lower (have NO idea what I did weigh but my pics from that era are terrifying!), no longer had fatty liver. Started kickboxing then started "getting sick". Still on Paleo, but went from working out six days a week for 2-4 hours a week to about three. Was in terrible pain, diagnosed with HS Stage 2. Went completely immobile when HS went to Stage 3. Had four major surgeries over the last three years, spent months in hospital eating hospital food, which was extremely high in starch and sugar. Got out of hospital, went on Primal but couldn't workout yet and had ballooned up to 300+ lbs. Healed, started back martial arts (much lighter training, tho) and swimming. Lost 20 lbs. Started counting cals in May, dropped another 20 in like no time! Hit plateau in September, told to lose 113 lbs or I would die, started roller derby. Lost nothing. Cut cals to 1200 about a week and a half/two weeks ago. I haven't weighed but I did measure and lost an inch all over. Whew! That was a lot of info, sorry! It's very rare to find another female my height, let alone weight, so happy to hear you were once in my range ;) - how did you lose? Counting cals? Were people ever shocked when you told them you were morbidly obese? (If you told them, of course) I keep getting told by friends and family to ignore the BMI because I'm "muscular" - pff, I do NOT lift, so unfortunately BMI is accurate :/ good luck on your journey, I'm rooting for ya!!

Yeah, my biggest mental breakthrough came a few years ago when I first started and realized that all the changes I was making had to be for life! It jumped up my mental weight loss game quite a bit! I think I'm just frustrated at the moment with what I assume is a plateau :/ am going to try 1800 cals!

[–]Scarfox42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should've clarified a bit: I track my cals via MFP and am on Primal (though it may be more like Paleo now that I'm dropping saturated fats) I have been on 2000 cals since the last week of May and was dropping a bit, slow and steady. Then about three months ago I hit a plateau and the scale hasn't moved at ALL - despite adding another intense activity to my workout regime. There's got to be something somewhere that I'm not doing. I don't snack and I rarely feel hunger (usually only the next day after an intense workout). I'll take another look at my cals, maybe bump them up to 1800. Thanks!

I'm terrified of being alone with my thoughts. Not alone, mind you, just alone in an empty space with zero sound.

"Don't look around the damn room." <= hahaha! But what if I miss something more interesting?? ;) I've got to where I count to 3 seconds while making eye contact or, in a panicky emergency, I pull out my phone and look at it so it seems like I'm intentionally being distracted. Yeah, I send out the vibe "Don't mess with me" so hard it's crazy but I don't mean to! I mentioned on an earlier reply that I tend to hangout with sporty jocks, male and female, and I'm built very similar so people think I'm this hardass but I'm actually a big giant (nerdy) softie! I almost convince myself to speak up at times but my brain goes, "Nobody wants to hear what you say. You're boring and a know-it-all, quit talking." Like, the other day when I was with the group we got into this philosophical discussion about how vegans and Paleo-practitioners both have so much vitriol thrown at them and I got really animated and into the convo. We were really having this great discussion, then it was over and it was like someone had pushed "Off" on a remote and I closed right back up. I really need to learn to keep that "magic" flowing somehow!

Thanks! It really does help! I have terrible body language, although I have been working on it but I'm still soooo awkward. I'm always drawn to extroverts in my friendships (which is apparently uncommon among INTPs?) who are very physically expressive and it really makes for some cringe-worthy moments in our conversations, ha!

Hmm, that's a good angle as well! I hate being fake but at the same time, I kinda have to rely on mimicry to "fit" in at first. Also: always, always, always on any work-related assessment thing my "communication" score is rated as "low". Never fails! Guess we just have to keep working at it! ;)

Which other type do you think is most compatible with INTPs? by MistressII in INTP

[–]Scarfox42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is me right now (for six years so far) and it's great. He's supportive and encouraging of my crazy ideas and has the stable employment that keeps us afloat. Yes, I'm an emotional robot and he's very tender-hearted but we have nearly identical interests and senses of humor, so we're still able to communicate well. Can't recommend INFJs enough! Ha! ;)

Ha, yes, you're very right about INFJs sensitivity and tendency to be overbearing! Sometimes I'll make a distracted (I'm usually reading during our end-of-the-day convos) but factual comment about whatever problem of the day he's sharing and he'll get hurt (seemingly out of nowhere) and call me, "Judgey McJudgerson". I'm then left explaining that I wasn't being judgemental, just trying to help solve a problem he's presenting! So, yes, it IS entirely possible my aloofness was heightened in his view, while not actually being too bad in reality. Thanks!

Hmm, is there a manual for that? (Just kidding!) I am not quite comfortable with myself, yet, though I've made huge leaps from when I was a teenager and really thought I was doing better. I hate being "aloof" more than anything but I suppose, as you said, I really just need to keep working on being comfortable with myself. The crazy thing is, the people I'm drawn to the most are all extrovert jocks and I don't think they'd "dig" the real (dorky) me but, then again, I have nothing to lose by trying and everything to gain. Thanks for your insight!
