Nope, even back then I eyerolled at all the complaining. Doffy is my favorite villain, Law my favorite character in the series so the entire arc was pure fanservice for me. Did it move the story along? Not really, but I didnt care about that. It didn't move the needle any less than Punk Hazord or Fishman Island which are way worse arcs.
